Jojo and Caesar with 6 (bookshop) and 38 (grief)

Rules: Send me two (2) tropes from this list + a ship and I’ll describe how I’d combine them in the same story.

“Is there something I can help you find?” 

Joseph jolts at the sudden voice, looking up from the confusing section of books in front of him, into a pair of bright green eyes. He can’t exactly remember how he got here, which is a problem in itself, but he knows what he’s here for.

“I was, uh, looking for a book.” Joseph finds himself saying. He doesn’t realise how lame that sounds until the pretty blonde employee quirks an eyebrow.

“Well, you’ve come to the right place.” The blonde, his name tag says Caesar, says and offers him a smile. Jojo can’t help but find it a little condescending. “Although I think you’re in a section that’s a little too advanced, I’ve got some lovely picture books in our children’s corner.”

Definitely condescending. 

“Hey, I know how to read!” It’s not a good idea, getting worked up in a tiny bookshop but Joseph can’t bring himself to calm down. “I’m looking for a book on grieving, jackass.”

Tears are welling up in his eyes again, and he finally lets them start to let them fall from his eyes. 

“My grandma died, and I’m stuck here in Italy until the weather in New York clears up.” He blurts, and it actually feels good to cry. 

He should have cried with Uncle Speedwagon on the phone instead of crying to a weirdo cashier in a tiny Italian Barns and Noble.

“.. Here, I’ve got one.” Caesar disappears for a moment, and Joseph briefly thinks about leaving, until the blonde comes back to hand him a worn book. “I used this after my uncle died.” 

His voice is soft, and his expression is somehow softer.

“I wrote my email address in there, if you uh, have any questions once you’re back home. My name is Caesar, by the way. “ 

“I’m Joseph, but you can call me Jojo.”

Do you sell your patterns?

Sorry, but no - I’d like to avoid trouble with the copyright holders, plus I found out when I did my one free R2D2 pattern (which is one of my less complicated figures) that turning my notes and hand-drawn pattern into something other people can make sense of takes forever, so I’d have no more time left for beading...

Your last art piece (the Kingdom Hearts one) is super pretty! How did you make it look like paper?

Thank you!!! It’s been my most favorite I’ve madeFor the paper look I meticulously cut out each shape to create each chara–lol jk lots of dropped shadows and scanning in paper

I’ll try to do a process gif/video next time I work on something like this again
