sophie rarely called unless she was drunk or in trouble, and due to her terrible driving skills, she was in trouble yet again. her car was a hand-me-down from her older brother, a 2004 toyota camry with a stick shift. she hardly ever drove it, opting for ubers or convincing people to drive with her to go downtown and she would cover gas money, but in the rare instance she did drive, it often ended poorly.
“what’s up, soph?” he answered the call, a little breathless.
“hey, um, are you busy?”
“I’m running, yeah. are you okay?” rafe asked, noticing the hesitancy in her tone.
“oh, shit. um, that’s fine, I’ll figure it out -”
“soph.” he cut her off. “talk to me, what’s up.”
“my car may be stalled in the parking lot down at the art museum downtown, I needed to come down here and sketch for homework.” she winced as she said it, picturing his exasperated expression. “okay.” he sighed. “I’ll walk you through it, like last time. look, I’ll be home from my run in ten and I can call you back -”
“wait, no, please, don’t leave me like this!” she pleaded. the last time he had ‘walked her through it,’ she ended up facetiming her dad to help instead and just didn’t tell rafe.
rafe laughed. “alright. stay there, I’ll meet you in ten. wait in the museum or something, I don’t want you just hanging out in the parking lot alone.”
“deal.”
ten minutes later, rafe had convinced james to drop him off and frowned when he saw sophie leaning up against her car, arms crossed. “soph, didn’t I tell you to wait inside?” she shook her head. “it’s fine, it’s the middle of the day.”
“yeah, exactly.” he scowled and opened the front door for her. “alright, show me what you were doing.”
“can’t you just drive?”
“no, you need to learn.” he nudged her in and he got in the passenger seat. “go for it.” sophie nodded, hand going for the clutch. “okay, so. first I shifted this thingy, and the car was all screwed up.” she pressed on the reverse pedal experimentally and the car revved and stalled, and rafe looked over with pure confusion. “wait, soph, what?”
she stopped abruptly. “what?”
“the car’s in third gear, you gotta start in first. that’s like the first rule of driving with stick.” he guided her hand on the gear, showing her. she sighed, dramatic. “you say that like it’s obvious. okay, can you drive home now?”
he grinned, shaking his head. “nice try. no, you drive. then I can show you what you’re doing wrong.”
“okay, but you’re gonna hate it. people don’t like driving with me.” she warned, backing out of the spot. “I’m sure I’ll be fine.” rafe regretted the words the second they came out of his mouth as she jolted forward. “shit, sorry, hold on.”
the rest of the ride continued like that, sophie making jerky movements and abrupt turns. “check your blind spot!” rafe exclaimed as she merged lanes without looking. he had a death grip on the door handle and kept his head on a swivel, making sure she didn’t run into another car or check her third curb in a row. “chill out, I’m doing fine.” she shot back, biting back a laugh at his wide eyes. he was pretty sure he had never said so many curse words consecutively before.
when she made it back into the parking lot at theta and turned off the car, rafe finally allowed himself to breathe. “sophie, what the fuck?”
“what?” she unbuckled and leaned over, kissing his cheek.
“how the fuck are you alive? I’m never letting you drive anywhere again. jesus christ.”
I was at the mall and I saw a huge giraffe at one of the stores and it got me thinking: WHO DO YOU SHIP WITH THE INFAMOUS DARLING GIRAFFE ANON?? Giraffe anon is like everyone's favorite cousin and I gotta know what you think!
lmao I love our Giraffe Anon to the moon and back but I don't ship anons anymore! I've done it in the past and it got a little messy so it's just not a Type of Ask I accept anymore, especially since I reject any and all idol/reader discourse 🩷 Idol ships and fictional characters only!

The plate had come crashing down, completely decimating the sector seven slums and the buildings on top of the plate. It was an absolute mess. Yet Andrea couldn’t sit by and not do anything. He’d checked on people who were close by and made sure they were alright; had given people who had nowhere else to go free rooms in the Honeybee Inn and told his staff to ensure they had enough food and were looked after. Andrea himself had decided to go to the wreckage and see what he could do to help.
There were other people helping to try and clear the debris, hoping beyond hope that there would be survivors. And for those who didn’t -- hoping to find them so they could give the families closure.
Andrea -- donned in a tracksuit and t-shirt -- climbed over the rubble, trying to help shift it. A cat came flying out of nowhere, it amazed him how resilient these creatures were and it caused him to pause for a moment. As he turned, he caught sight of Reeve. He knew that this devastation would be hurting him, hell it would nearly destroy him. Taking care of where he was putting his feet, Andrea began to slowly make his way towards the man. To give him a much needed hug and some consolation.
Unfortunately fate -- it would seem -- was feeling particularly cruel today.
One miss-step. That was all. Just one.
The rubble shifted beneath his feet. His eyes left Reeve for a second as he looked down. Then back up. It was seconds.
The ground beneath his feet gave way and Andrea fell, rubble and dust chasing after the man as he was buried beneath the rubble. The world blacked out on him, all he felt was pain. Yet it didn’t last long. The pain faded into nothing.
There was nothing.
Just blackness.
One miss-step and a couple of seconds was all it took for Andrea to become the latest victim in the plate incident. The flamboyant owner of the Honeybee in, never to grace the stage again -- never to laugh with his friends or feel the warmth of one of Reeve’s hugs again.
