Whatever you do, do NOT imagine AU where Arthur lives
do not imagine Arthur and Merlin returning to Camelot.
do not imagine Arthur naming Merlin court sorcerer.
do not imagine Arthur furiously defending Merlin against people who hate magic.
do not imagine king Arthur and court sorcerer Merlin still being as inseperable as ever, even though Merlin has a different position now.
do not imagine Arthur's new man servant never seeming to be around that much (because that spot on Arthur's right belongs to Merlin and everybody knows it)
do not imagine Camelot becoming a safe haven for magic people.
do not imagine sorcerers on the run hearing whispers of magical Camelot and thinking its too beautiful to be true.
do not imagine Merlin opening Gaius' practice to welcome new magical refugees untill he can give them a proper home.
do not imagine the population of Camelot doubbling.
do not imagine every sorcerer in Camelot knowing Merlin by name and being prepared to die for him in a heartbeat.
do not imagine the new food sources now that magic is legal (the crops are trice as big and grow twice as fast. not a single child goes hungry during winters)
do not imagine a constant buzz of magic and mystery filling the streets of camelot.
do not imagine Merlin walking the magical streets of Camelot, smiling happily.
do not imagine Merlin's magic perfectly completing Arthur's sword skills.
do not imagine Arthur and Merlin never seperated during battle.
do not imagine Merlin and Arthur becoming a living nightmare on the battle front.
do not imagine enemies running at the sight of the golden-eyed sorcerer back to back with the deadly king of Camelot.
do not imagine Camelot become the most feared battle force in the region
do not imagine stories of Merlin and Arthur on the battlefield reaching other countries.
do not imagine Arthur and Merlin becoming the subject of legends up to the point where they become almost mythical creatures
(I heard king Arthur was crowned as a peasant after he pulled the magical sword Exacilbur out if a stone.)
(I heard the sorcerer Merlin was poisoned by Morgana but saved himself by turning into a tree)
do not imagine those stories eventually reaching Camelot.
do not imagine Arthur and Merlin laughing their asses off when they hear those.
do not imagine Merlin accidentally gaining more positions in the royal house hold than he had bargained for. (he becomes court sorcerer, royal advisor, part-time servant, a sort of knight, resposible for foreign affairs, diplomat, representative of the magic population and later Gaius' successor as court physician)
do not imagine Arthur being as touched as he is pissed off when he finds out just how many times Merlin has saved his life.
do not imagine them keeping scores after that (Merlin is on the lead by saving Arthur 76 times. Arthur has a close 56,5. No matter what the warlock claims, Arthur did not purpously bring him into any sort of danger just for the sake of driving that number up)
do not imagine Gwen going into labour for the first time.
do not imagine Arthur nervously pacing the castle hallways (he really wanted to be there but he was such a wreck, the queen had him thrown out)
do not imagine Merlin being Merlin blabbering to Arthur the entire time, effectively making him more nervous.
do not imagine Arthur calling Merlin a girl when he cries upon first meeting the son of his two best friends even though the king is crying himself (Gwen hits them both on the head)
do not imagine Gwen and Arthur being the most well-rested parents in history because Merlin sneaks into the baby room at night (the little sparks of magic always calm the child down)
do not imagine Merlin becoming little Gaius' favourite uncle (the name was Gwen's idea)
do not imagine little Gaius asking for stories of Merlin and Arthur's adventures when they were younger.
do not imagine Merlin being an amazing story teller because he uses voices and and magic for dramatic effect.
do not imagine Merlin unintentionally gaining the position of royal story teller as well (stupid knights overhearing him. now the entire court looks foreward to story time every night before bed)
do not imagine little Gaius running to Merlin in tears one day because he made a window explode after losing his temper (Arthur was born out of magic after all)
do not imagine Merlin simply smiling and telling little Gaius magic isn't something to be afraid of.
do not imagine Merlin helping Gaius break the news to Arthur after reassuring him his father will always love him no matter what.
do not imagine Merlin being absolutely right.
do not imagine Arthur expressing how proud he is of his magical son.
do not imagine king Artur demanding Gaius will have the best teacher he can find.
do not imagine Merlin becoming Gaius' mentor.
do not imagine Merlin mentally apologizing to old Gaius every time little Gaius gets himself into trouble using magic (seriously, how did you manage not to strangle me all those years?)
do not imagine an exhausted Merlin groaning to Arthur one night that he has once again become the royal babysitter of the crown prince (because Gaius may be the spitting image of Gwen, his personality is so much alike his father's it hurts.)
do not imagine Merlin becoming tutor of all magical children after that. (no child will ever again grow up fearing his own magic)
do not imagine Merlin claiming he has now officially won the "who-saved-who-more-contest" because he continues saving Arthur's bloodline. (the king rewards him by throwing a goblet at him)
do not imagine Merlin outliving both Arthur and Gwen after a long and happy life.
do not imagine Old Merlin now always on king Gaius' right side (it feels completely natural and nobody questions it)
do not imagine Merlin finally telling Gaius that it is time for him to go.
do not imagine Gaius begging Merlin to stay, but the old sorcerer simply smiling, telling him he will be a great king.
do not imagine Merlin looking at Gaius one last time and seeing his two best friends in the young man's features.
do not imagine old Merlin walking the magical streets of Camelot one last time, a boyish grin on his face that makes him appear much younger than he actually is.
do not imagine Merlin leaving Camelot, knowing it will be safe now without him.
do not imagine Merlin arriving at the lake.
do not imagine Merlin turning young again the moment the crown of his head disappears beneath the waves
Do not imagine Freya already waiting for him and smiling.
(Freya is only slightly annoyed that even in death Arthur and Merlin are able to find each other. I mean she loves Gwen and Arthur and she even gets the whole "two sides of the same coin"-thing but would it kill he boyfriend to stop flirting with his boyfriend?)
