Tim McMullan in Foyle's War
Although, to be honest, the Foyle's War isn't important right now. I was just looking for this guy.
It's all about the hands, yo.

Time Raiders|盗墓笔记 (2016) is a Big Dumb Action Movie that I would describe to Western viewers as ‘Indiana Jones-esque’, full of large spectacle, broad humour, and cheesy one-liners. I sure do enjoy it as a Big Dumb Movie. (How does Zhang Qiling’s rotating sword even work? I don’t know and I don’t need to.) It’s great popcorn viewing.
But some stories, even Big Dumb Movies - sometimes especially Big Dumb Movies - can have a lot of interesting stuff going on in the visuals, the music, and other content not explicitly voiced by the characters. The creators of Time Raiders put a lot of effort into filming mirrors in clever ways and use visual juxtapositions at high-emotion parts of the story.
This is a survey more than an analysis - I don’t think I understand the intended use of the motif enough to give definitive thoughts on what the creators meant in a particular visual. But they’re fun to explore, so that’s what I’m doing.
I tried using the Kiss on everyone this run (the whole deal made me kinda uncomfortable first go) and everyone has some choice reactions, Ronbo in particular has a pretty cool life lesson-y one, but then.
Trencil.
Sir.
Sir, you’re ridiculous.
[ID: A series of screenshots from Smile For Me, depicting Trencil’s response to being kissed.
“Oh, my. A single kiss, planted on my cheek. I truly cannot blame you. My graceful, demure disposition exudes intense beauty. Alas, fatherhood is a full time job. I will not be wooed by plant or animal. You must be careful, lest you fall under my uncontrollable spell. Protect yourself, dear flower-whisperer.“

Idol Surprise
So this offshoot of Kinder Surprise, Kinder Joy, is doing a thing in Germany (where I’m from) where the toy inside is centered around what they call “teen idols”. It’s little figurines of notable celebrities, but styled to look child-friendly or something? They’re explicitly described as role models, anyway. The line-up alone is weird enough. There’s music...
Okay, random-ass selection there. Not exactly what I would call role model material, but okay. Also, everybody’s hands are hideously broken for some reason.
The sports one seems to make the most sense for the most part, and it’s nice to see some people of color in there. Not sure about the alleged rapist on the left, but whatever. Moving on. History.
Okay, sure, put Columbus in there, why not. It’s not like was personally responsible for slave trade and genocide or something. And then, there’s Einstein, who, uh...
