The "Imagegate" rumor mill goes wild
The “Imagegate” rumor mill goes wild
Search for “imagegate,” and you’ll find lots of articles claiming there’s a malware risk in JPEG files. Look more closely, and you’ll notice they don’t provide any support for the claim. They all take an article from Check Point as their source, but there are two little problems with that: (1) The article doesn’t blame JPEG files, and (2) as I noted in my last post, it’s inept reporting. Looking…

Hackers can now infect your PC and attack your privacy through social media
Security firms, around the world, are constantly geared up to protect their privacy and do not let it risk at any cost. However, cyber-attacks are becoming more and more frequent day by day and social media is becoming more prone to such sort of attacks.
Check Point, a famous security firm, has just found a new sort of malware that may come in the form of images through social networks and may cause the loss of your privacy. Named as “ImageGate” (quite an interpretation of what the glitch do) the ransomware exploits LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. All the hacker needs to do is to trick the user into downloading the infected image file and once it is downloaded, nothing could be done to prevent the PC of user from being infected.
“The attackers have built a new capability to embed malicious code into an image file and successfully upload it to the social media website.
The attackers exploit a misconfiguration on the social media infrastructure to deliberately force their victims to download the image file. This results in infection of the users’ device as soon as the end-user clicks on the downloaded file.”
As for now, there is no remedy for you to do if your PC gets infected or there is no kind of protection from this perennial threat. All you can do to protect yourself is to check whether the image sent to you is available online or in which format it is, else do not download it.

Chiude definitivamente l'agenzia ImageGate
Chiude definitivamente l’agenzia ImageGate
