“David loves you,” said Rachel smirking, “He has this great love for you.”
“No he doesn’t,” Kurt said.
“Yes he does,” said Rachel in a smug singsong voice she has seemed to pick up from her new boyfriend, Felix.
“No he doesn’t,” Kurt said, “and we are acting like children.”
“Sorry I’m late.” Kurt looked up to see Santana. He smiled at her appearance. She was wearing a cute blue Business suit that he helped pick out for her when she applied at the law firm she now was working at. He noticed immediately she had gotten a haircut. It was 4 inches shorter then it was a few days before, “What are you two ladies talking about?”
Kurt rolled his eyes. “We are talking about nothing,” said Kurt, “you look lovely today Santana. Did you do something with your hair.”
“Don’t change the subject,” said Santana as she took Kurt’s coffee that was in front of him and taking a big drink, “what are you two talking about?”
Kurt stared at the place his coffee was before looking up at Santana, “Hey!”
“You snooze you lose.”
“How much David loves Kurt.” Rachel said before taking a sip of her coffee.
“So Kurt’s still in denial.”
“I am not.”
“So what else is new?”
“I am not in denial that David has feelings for me,” said Kurt, “He is just a good family friend.”
Yeah and I am the queen of England,” said Santana as Rachel snorted.
Kurt sighed he felt that he always had to explain why Dave was always around, “Ever since Puck died Dave has been around because he promised to teach our kid Judaism. He has been helping out-.”
“Kurt he worships every step you take. Plus he adores Aaron,” said Rachel, “He looks at the both of you like your both his whole wide world.”
“I know he loves Aaron. He’s just a good person who just happens to have broken up with his Fiancé a month ago who promised Puck to make sure Aaron would no more about his Jewish heritage. I promised Puck he would be raised Jewish when we first found out and you know that.”
“He’s not just a good person,” Santana said, “He loves you so much that his boyfriend, Mark, broke up with him because he wouldn’t kick you out of his life.”
Kurt gawked at her, “What?
“Yeah what,” said Rachel, “You didn’t tell me this.”
Santana leaned over, “Kevin gave Dave an ultimatum. Both Aaron and Kurt go or he goes and Dave chose you.”
“He never told me that Stewart did that,” Kurt muttered. Santana sniggered
Rachel glared at Santana, “What I want to know is why did he tell you that?”
“He didn’t,” Santana said, “he told Brittany. She told me. We don’t keep secrets from each other. Besides did either of you think he would tell you?”
“He did it for Aaron and Puck,” said Kurt. The words sounded hollow on his tongue.
“You know Kurt I never took you for an idiot,” said Santana, “But I think you are proving me wrong.”
“Look Channukah is just a few days away and David has plans and I don’t need this getting into the way of celebrating,” said Kurt, “I don’t need to think about this stuff.”
“Fine I’ll drop it but you can’t deny that you like David too like that.”
“I don’t love David.”
“You said the love word not me,” said Santana.
“Drop it,” said Kurt, “So Rachel what are your plans for Channukah?”
“I still need to find my Menorah and buy candles,” said Rachel, “I also need to find Grandma’s Latkes recipes.”
“Berry why do you celebrate Christmas when you are jewish,” asked Santana.
Rachel shrugged, “I celebrate both.”
“Why though,” asked Santana
“How do you get all of it done,” asked Kurt.
“… Because presents,” said Rachel starry eyed with greed, “and you celebrate both too Kurt.”
Both Santana and Kurt rolled their eyes and looked at each other.
“Only with my Dad and Carole but in my own home no and we hold off any acknowledgments of Christmas if channukah overlaps with it.”
“Huh,” said Rachel.
“So did Brittany buy anything new for Christmas,” said Kurt. The talk of the winter holidays went on for a good hour before Kurt went to pick up Aaron and from soccer practice that Dave was training because his son loves Soccer. He tried to ignore that little pitter-patter his heart went when ever Dave smiled at him besides Dave was Puck’s friend and doing this for Puck and Aaron.
Day 1
The first day was the first candle to be lit. Both Dave and Aaron were both whispering hushed over the candle. Dave explained to him while Chanukah was not as important as say Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Passover and Shavu’ot. He remembered Puck teaching him that while Chanuhah was somewhat important it had about as much importance as Purim. Which Puck then went on to describe what Purim was. Kurt sometimes found these facts interesting, others not so much. Kurt smiled as he watched.
“Are you going to join us Dad in prayer,” Aaron asked Kurt.
“I’ll watch,” said Kurt.
“C’mon Kurt just this once,” said Dave, wiggling his eyebrows.
Kurt laughed, “I’ll watch. Maybe next year.”
Both Aaron and Dave smiled at him before Dave turned to the menorah.
“Can I light the Menorah, Uncle Dave?”
Dave nodded his head. “Only if you do the prayer in both English and Hebrew.”
“Okay,” Aaron said, nodding her head. Aaron loved learning Hebrew. Kurt couldn’t help but notice how much Dave look at Aaron with love. If Dave ever settled down he would make a good father one day. Kurt felt a wave of sadness, nausea and jealousy towards an imaginary person go through him. Kurt did what he normally did when this happened he waved it off.
He watched as Aaron lit the middle candle. “What is the middle candle called again?”
“The Shammus, Kurt,” said Dave before both Aaron and Dave. They both whispered the first prayer called the blessing of the candles, before going over the Blessing for the Chanekah Miracle and the final prayer prayer they only say on the first. Kurt found it soothing to watch the two pray together even though he found no pleasure or understanding of it. He used to find it soothing when Puck was alive to watch him pray with Aaron. Times like this he wishes that drunk didn’t run into his husband. That Puck didn’t lie there on the road for hours and someone found him in time to save him. He also wished Puck didn’t cling to life in a hospital bed for over a week even after that only to lose his life in the end. He would give anything to have Puck here. Kurt hoped he was wrong that there was a heaven or some place after death because sometimes the thought of Puck gone forever was more heart breaking. He wished he could believe in fairytales like that. There are days like this he wishes for his husband back.
“Hey everything okay,” asked Dave later when Aaron was put to bed.
“Everything is fine,” said Kurt, “Just thinking about… Puck.”
“I know,” said Dave, “He should be here.”
“Thank you for teaching Aaron this part of her heritage,” said Kurt, “I would have found it difficult if you weren’t here.”
“You are a smart guy and you would have probably taught yourself and forced yourself into a synagogue and probably converted purely to make sure Puck’s wish of her being raised Jewish gets met.”
“I would have hated it,” said Kurt.
“I know,” said Dave as he headed for the door, “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“David.”
“Yeah.”
“I’m glad that you are in our lives,” said Kurt.
Dave smiled at him. “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Besides I promised Puck.” Dave kissed his cheek good bye and it took his breath away. It wasn’t until as soon as the door closed he could breath again. It was times like this that he couldn’t help but have Santana and Rachel’s words come back to him about David loving him. It was just food for thought.
Day 2
The next day after Aaron got out of school, Kurt picked Aaron up from school. They headed down to Central park for iceskating. Kurt was going to sit and watch but they got ice skates on him but next he knew David was handing him skates and he was getting them laced up.
The three were just chatting amongst each other. When a little kid came over and pushed Kurt into David. Kurt and David were laughing hard at the time when Kurt noticed how nice Dave’s smile was and how is eyes just sparkled and the nicest shade of hazelish-green he has ever seen. He found himself leaning forward when.
“Uncle Dave, look at me,” yelled Aaron and they were pulled from that moment on the ice. It was a moment. It was just a moment in time that was both something happening and nothing noteworthy.
Day 3
Everyone was over at Rachel’s the day after. Both Dave and Felix were helping put food on the table. Aaron was goofing off with Allison, Felix’s 12-year-old daughter, and Brittany was listening to the two of them with a smile on her face. As Kurt finished tossing a Spiced Pecan and Apple Salad with Honey Vinaigrette salad, “Hey Dave can you put the salad on the table?” He could feel Dave’s nose in his hair and he could smell Dave’s cologne.
“So Dave, Kurt, have you guys two still not told each other you that you both want to bang each other,” said Felix. Both Kurt and Dave went red. He could hear Brittany laugh and he could see Santana fighting laughter. Both Allison and Aaron were looking at Felix annoyed and Dave was just not looking at him.
Rachel reached over and smacked him on the head. “Ow. What was that for?”
“We talked about this,” said Rachel.
Felix looked confused, “Oh yeah don’t bring up the sexual tension between Dave and Kurt.”
“We talked about this.”
“Oh, ok so how about them Yanks,” said, “Baseball is really, really interesting. A bunch of really hot guys throwing around a ball hitting them with sticks. It sounds like a fun sport. I mean Santana it could be a great sport for you and Brittany to try out by pretending it is guy’s balls.”
“Dad you are hopeless,” said Allison.
“But my girls love me, right?”
“We do.”
Day 4
“What are you thinking about,” said Dave, helping himself to wine in
“What Felix said last night,” said Kurt.
“He says a lot of things. You shouldn’t put much stock into what he says.”
“I know that I just I can’t believe some of the things that comes from his mouth,” said Kurt, “that’s all.” It was the truth.
“You know how the guy is. The man has no filter,” Dave shrugged, “It shocks me sometimes that Rachel Berry of all people are dating the guy. Wine?”
“Oh yes please. I think it is the thing that drew her to him,” said Kurt as Dave poured him a drink, “he shakes her up by telling her how it is with out being cruel about it.”
“Yeah well he is too loud about what he thinks,” said Dave sitting beside him.
Kurt snorted, “He’s a one of a kind. When they first met it was on Funny Girl and he didn’t like her. She didn’t care to get to know him. When they first talked he called her a ‘spoilt little Barbara Streisand wannabe who won’t amount to anything because she has her head so far up her ass that she can’t see she is putting millions of dollars and the lives of many people because she is star struck with her own shit.’ It was both horrible and glorious to watch. When Rachel started growing up things changed and they became friends because they always ended up on the same shows.”
“I bet,” said Dave, “another glass?”
“Oh please,” said Kurt. The two spent the rest of the night talking about anything and everything and by 2 in the morning they both have finished 4 bottles of wine. Next Dave was leading Kurt to his bedroom. Dave was a little to drunk to stand as well.
“Sh sh sh. We’ll wake up Aaron,” said Kurt, giggle too drunk on wine and happiness.
“Then you need to be very quiet while I put you to bed,” Dave said. His voice was in a whisper and he looked amused and the redness from the wine was in his face. Kurt couldn’t help but kiss him and soon they were tumbling into Kurt’s bedroom and into bed together.
Day 5
The Next morning, Kurt dreaded opening his eyes. He was drunk last night but not so drunk to “lose” control. He could feel Dave’s arm around his stomach and it felt right. It also felt wrong because Puck. But at the same time felt right and wonderful because Dave. He was in an odd limbo. He could tell from the way Dave nestled close he was still a sleep. It wasn’t until a few moments later he could feel Dave’s body jerk awake. Dave pulled him closer and kissing the back of his neck.
“Shit,” whispered Dave into his neck before pulling away, “I promised not to do this shit.”
“Promised who?”
“It’s nothing,” said Dave as pulled away.
“What is nothing,” said Kurt turning to watch him get out of bed and shove on clothes.
“Look I get it if you thought this was a mistake,” Said Dave, “I’ll get out of your hair.”
“Who did you promise what,” said Kurt.
“It’s nothing Kurt,” said Dave, “Let’s just forget it.”
“It just happened and my god you reverted back to high school Dave,” said Kurt, “What the hell is going on with you?”
“Nothing,” said Dave.
Kurt stared at him, “Both Santana and Rachel constantly tell me that you are in love with me and if this was rebound because Mark broke up with you.”
Dave just stared at him, “I just.”
“Are you in love with me,” Asked Kurt.
Dave shrunk more into himself before looking at Kurt miserable, “I promised Puck – a lot of things.”
“How l- Puck knew,” said Kurt, “How long?”
“Long, really long,” said David, “Before Puck. I moved on multiple times and then you would smile and I am back at step one.”
“Did Puck know?”
“Look I have to go,” said Dave, “I know you think this was a mistake and I can’t deal with this.”
“You can’t just walk out,” said Kurt.
“I don’t want to you telling me to fuck off because as far as I can see I am about to lose the two most important people in my life so I am fucking scared and I have to go,” said Dave, as he stepped out of Kurt’s room there was Aaron in the door way. “Hi sport I have to go.” Kurt watched as Dave ran from the room.
“Hey Dad, why was Uncle David here,” asked Aaron
“It’s a long story,” said Kurt.
“Is he going to become my new Dad?”
“Aaron Puck will always be your father,” said Kurt.
Aaron scoffed, “I know that. I mean I have two Dads now I might as well have a third. Uncle Dave already acts like a Dad to me. Besides Papa can’t be here at the moment and he wouldn’t want you lonely, right?”
“That’s right,” said Kurt smiling at his son, “now come here. You are really your father’s son and the best thing in my life, you know that?” Kurt smiled at his son remembering the Day Puck told him that he was pregnant with Aaron. It was one of the happiest days of his life.
Aaron crawled into bed and hugged his Dad, “I know that I’m awesome.”
Kurt laughed, “that you are.”
Day 6+7
The next the next two days with out Dave and it felt odd. Kurt could see that Aaron. He could see his son was agitated. He would sometimes look at Kurt like as if he is about to ask him. Kurt would try to lead prayer. It felt off with out Dave. Then nights would be tossing and turning. He couldn’t help but think of what happened. The last Dave of Channukah he made up his mind what he was going to do. He needed to talk to Dave.
Day 8
“Hey,” said Kurt, “night I thought you wouldn’t come back.”
“We did something stupid,” said Dave, “you regret it, We fought Kurt, and then I told you something stupid and we should just forget it.”
“Don’t you dare say I regret something,” said Kurt, “you don’t know what I am feeling. I was the one who initiated the sex because you smiled at me and made my drunken ass feel goopy like you normally do when you are being you. The only thing I regret is ending up feeling like the biggest mistake after you left.”
“Look, I’m sorry,” said Dave, wincing, “I shouldn’t have done that.”
“Too late. You did,” said Kurt.
“Look if you want to just move on,” said Dave, “or never see me again I would understand.”
“You are not getting out of this all to easy,” said Kurt.
“Do you think that would be easy for me,” snapped Dave, “I fucking love and I fucking love Aaron and the thought of you two not being there is my worst nightmare and I would understand if you would want to move and forget about this and I would try.”
“And I don’t want to just move on,” said Kurt, “You know what Aaron asked me if you were going to be his new Dad?”
Dave winced and looked down, “look I’m-”
“David, he was okay with the idea. His words were, ‘I have two Dads now might as well have a third. Uncle Dave already acts like a Dad to me.’ He loves you. I love you. We could possibly all work.”
“I- Aaron has always been a smart kid,” Dave sighed and looked at him, “So where does that leave us?”
“I would like to think two people willing to try a relationship,” said Kurt, “But that is only if you are willing?”
“I- I can’t say no to you,” said Dave, “But Puck.”
“Puck’s my husband and I love Puck, I will always love Puck and but Puck is dead and I will always miss him. Yet I have these feeling for you too and I don’t know when they started. I also know that I need to move on and if you want to try things out as a couple, I would be more then willing to just take things one day at a time. I don’t think Puck would want me wallowing in widowhood when I could be enjoying my life.”
“So, one day at a time,” said Dave smiling.
“Yeah, one day at a time.” Kurt returned a smile as he took Dave’s hand and stepped closer.
“Can I kiss you,” said Dave.
Kurt nodded, before taking a handful of Dave’s shirt and pulled Dave forward. Kurt kissed Dave on the lips. It was a sweet soft kiss that was filled with hope and love, Dave’s arms wrapped around him. He could get used to this and he did. The ‘I told you so’s’ from Rachel, Santana and Felix did get old though.
Maybe, Baby Author: Molly Annice Summary: Kurt comes home from being away to propose find his boyfriend David is pregnant. Author’s note: Royal Academy of Dramatic Art would never do what I say they did ever. The school has three student has three students per teacher so it is very choosy and only pick the very best students because of it but if Rachel Berry can get into NYADA and end up getting the role of Fanny Bryce in the same year and Santana can get to be Rachel’s understudy then Kurt can get into Royal Academy of Dramatic Art by invitation. Written for kosherrainbows' New Year Treats Prompt: Mpreg prompt: Kurt (or Dave) thinks he surprising Dave (or Kurt) by AArriving back home on New Years after a semester abroad when it turns Dave has the bigger surprise when Kurt sees Dave rather pregnant belly PS. I just realized this is the third time I knocked up David Karofsky and every time it is Kurt's baby or Kurt's assumed baby.
“Dave, what are you doing here?”
“What…I told you.. I texted…”
Kurt disappeared and returned with his phone, shuffling through his text. He saw his most recent, “Sorry, I wasn’t awake…I’ll go make us coffee. Do you want anything to eat?”
“Naw, thanks,” Dave said tossing himself back on the couch in a similar fashion to a petulant child. Though this was the first time he had startled Kurt, this wasn’t the first time he had spent the night on Kurt’s couch.
“So,” A mug of coffee appeared in front of him, prompting him back into a sitting position, “What was the fight about this time?”
Dave groaned, rubbing his eyes with the free hand, “I don’t even know…” Then added with a dry laugh added, “I guess its been to long since the last fight.”
“Two weeks?”
But Dave just brushed of the comment, “I guess…after two years…we’re just scared of plateauing so we just going through a rough patch. I still love him…Sebastian…”
Kurt just nodded, because nothing in his head sounded appropriated. And he was also trying to hide the surprise he felt as a fair amount of jealously reared its head. He pushed it down while his friend rambled on for a little while before getting up.
“I should be getting back and get ready for work…what’s your schedule look like today?”
“Just a half day of filming. Then I have a meeting …potential project.” Kurt smiled slyly.
“So…on for dinner? The usual ‘thank you’ for letting me stay the night…And are you still coming Saturday?”
Kurt’s laughed filled the room, “Of course, like I would miss your birthday.”
“Alright, cool, great….Tonight then I’ll let you pick.”
Xxxxxx
“No, David Karofsky. Stop apologizing…its fine…go have makeup sex with your boyfriend.” He teased as they wrapped up the phone conversation. After he hung up, he pondered a few minutes before he returned to his phone and pulled up the text function. He found the conversation string with Santana, and typed:
Turns out I don’t have dinner plans. You still up for greasy fried foods.
It only took a few moments before he got his response: Like its even a question.
“So, Meerkat and Sporty-Gay are making up?” Santana remarked casually as she slid into the booth across from him.
“Again.” He confirmed, “I swear they’ve spent more of the last two fighting than anything else. Eventually…”
“I see,” Santana interrupted with a smile, placing one hand over the other in front of her, “Eventually Dave will come to his senses, dump the cheating meerkat, and run into you’re open arms. Eventually he going to realize you’re in love with him.”
Kurt was quick to the defensive, “It’s not…I’m not…I’m not.” His voice was firm. Then his brain caught up with something she had said. “Sebastian isn’t cheating though…he wouldn’t …Dave wouldn’t have gone back if that’s what they were fighting…”
“No,” The Latina replied dismissively, “It was just the word that went with ‘Meerkat’…nothing to worry about.”
He eyed her suspiciously as they placed their order not convinced by her quick little dismissal. Sure, he would have believed it of Sebastian in high school, but not since he started seeing David. As much as he believed the relationship had its issues even he had to admit it had made both grow up.
“I’m just worried about you.” Kurt had told Dave over coffee, discussing Dave and Sebastian’s first official date.
“And I love that about you.” Kurt’s ears perked at that, but Dave just kept going without a moment to really consider why had been said, “You’re my best friend , I get it; you want to protect me…”
“You just don’t want me to?” Kurt offered.
“It’s not that. I just want you to trust me. Even if its a giant mistake. Sebastian is great. And I really like him.”
The insistence on Dave’s fave made the retort on Kurt’s tongue fall silent.
Now, however, he knew Santana’s face too well to stay silent.
“What do you know?”
She smirked then relented a sigh, “I don’t have any proof. And as much as I would like to take down Smythe the schemer… I don’t want to risk destroying Dave…”
“Didn’t seem to bother you with Rachel and Brody…”
Her smirk grew wider, but he just shook his head.
Xxxx
“So where did you stay last night?” Sebastian looked over to where Dave was pushing to sit up on the other side of the king sized. The response took a moment before it arrived quietly, “The same place as every other time I needed a place to crash.”
Maybe he should have just lied, but Dave hadn’t so he watched as Sebastian left the bed and entered the bathroom with a quick slam of the door only to reemerge thirty minutes later wet from the shower and towel wrapped around his waist. Dave is completely ignored as Sebastian pulls on clothes.
“Seb, he wasn’t even awake. I was on the couch. We talked for all of five minutes before I left. Where else was I supposed to go?”
“Last I had Santana still has a couch.”
“Santana lives on the other side of the city…”
Sebastian sat on the edge of the bed to put on his shoes still refusing to look at Dave, “At least with her I, your boyfriend, would know you weren’t in love with her.”
“I’m not in love….where are you going?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know?” Sebastian calls behind him before disappearing out of the bedroom. Dave waits for a moment until the apartment door shuts and he gently throws his head back, cursing himself and his boyfriend.
Xxxxxx
“I’m not in love with Kurt. I keep telling him this. I love him.”
Dave is siting on a barstool next to Santana who is multi tasking listening and getting them their first round of the night.
When the beers finally arrive she places one in front of him, “Tell me something: does saying all of that make you believe it more?”
“San…”
“Come on Dave we all know how you feel about Kurt. I mean this Sebastian thing was great when Kurt was with Blaine, but now it’s gone beyond healthy.”
“I’m not…” But the protest fell silent for a long moment as Dave raced. Kurt was his best friend, they had a history he wasn’t proud of, he didn’t want ruin what they had built by acting on…no, by finding…no, he didn’t want to develop feelings…”I’m not and more to the point, Lopez, you’re forgetting that even if I do love Kurt he doesn’t love me. We are just friends.”
He thought he had made a solid argument but still the Latina just rolled her eyes, “Oh, please, give Auntie Tana a little credit. Kurt avoids going out with people, every time you and the Meerkat have a fight he fights to hide the hope that this time will be the last and it’ll finally be his turn. Trying to swim against that Egyptian river current is only going to hurt both of you. Trust me, Dave.”
He listened to her little speech fully intending to retort with something smart and well thought but his brains refused ad he was point blankly refusing to hear the voice inside his head telling him its because she’s right.
Xxxxx
Kurt walks into the club second guessing his decision to come. He had fully intended to put away all his thoughts about Dave and Dave with Sebastian and even all of Santana’s suspicions about Sebastian away for the night. And if he was being entirely honest he would admit that his biggest motivation was proving Santana wrong. He wasn’t in love with Dave, and he was going to find someone to prove it. But most of the guys approaching him looks suspiciously too much like Dave that he eventually gave up the dance floor and made his way to the bar.
He pushed against the crowd, but could seems to get in until a deep voice came at him from behind, “What are you drinking?”
When Kurt remained silent the man chuckled, “No agenda I swear I just know the bar tender and thought I could help.”
“Just a beer then, please.”
The mystery man nodded, and ordered the drinks faster than Kurt knew he would have ever been able to achieve.
“Alone? Or did you get abandoned like me?”
The name Samaritan asked while they waited.
Avoiding answering about himself, he responded with a incredulous smile, “Why would any one abandon you?”
It was taken for the compliment it had been intended to be. “My friends boyfriend showed up.” He pointed out a couple on the other side of the bar who were so intensely going at a game of tonsil hockey Kurt was sure they must be going for the Stanly Cup. Kurt caught himself thinking that Dave would have been impressed with that mental reference and that it was probably a sign they had spent too much time around each other when the couple finally parted. His stomach instantly dropped. For a moment he had only wished that he had been seeing things but he knew it was just his mind messing with him. Santana was right an he had the proof right in front of him.
Xxxxxxx
“What the…” Kurt voice yelped in surprise as the door to his apartment opened unexpectantly revealing Dave on the other side, “Dave what are you doing?”
“Well, I’ve tried calling, texting, and emailing you for the last week and a half. And since you are not dead I can only assume it means you are avoiding me and I just wanted to know why.”
“I’m no avoiding you.”
Dave’s eyebrow quirk alone told him he wasn’t believed so he continued slowly, pointing at the couch for ten both to sit.
“I wasn’t avoiding you so much as I was trying to find out the best way to tell you about something I discovered.”
Trying to keep the panic out of his voice Dave responded evenly, “Whatever it is just tell me?”
“I went to a club near work and I saw Sebastian with another man, calling each other boyfriends,” at the silence his words began to pick up speed, “I’m so sorry David, I didn’t mean to spy-“
“I know.”
“Really I wasn’t I was just trying to-“
“Kurt. I know. I’ve known for a little bit now. Well suspected. Our last few fight have been about. I accuse him of cheating with the intern from his work and he deflects by accusing me of cheating with you.”
“Me?”
“He thinks I’m still in love you. Has since we got together, and I’ve spent two years trying to convince him that I’m not.”
Kurt’s stomach tightens. Does it mean what he thinks it does. Before he can ask Dave continues solemnly.
“I know I should have left as soon as I found out about the cheating. But the truth is he’s right. I haven’t stopped loving you, if anything it’s only grown.”
Kurt began to relax, “But that’s the problem Kurt.”
His heart crashed again. “I never knew how you felt and I really believed I could love Sebastian too and I lost two years in that relationship and now what?”
“Now there’s me.” Kurt whispered so softly he almost didn’t think he had even said anything.
“No, there’s not Kurt. Even if you do even remotely like me back I can’t just jump out of a relationship and into another. You would mean too mb for me to do that.”
“David Karofsky whenever you are ready I’ll be ready. Because I really do love you too”
Xxxx
Life went on. Dave and Sebastian parted was and Dave threw himself into his work for the next six months garnering a promotion along the way that kept him even more busy. And between a busy shooting schedule for Kurt they barely had time to see each other. There was the occasional meal or game but Santana tagged along and thankfully did most of the talking.
Kurt’s schedule fell into the same routine. Morning. Coffee. Go to set. Come back to the apartment. Sleep.
Xxxxx
Kurt thought the buzzing was a part of his dream. Then the pounding came and he came out of the dream to know it was the front door of the apartment. It was only then he checked his phone.
From Dave Karofsky: open your door please
Groggy he pulled himself out of bed and stumbled to the door.
“What’s wrong? David, are you okay?”
“I couldn’t sleep.”
“Can you hear Santana snoring from the couch. You should have said…”
“Santana doesn’t snore. I just can’t sleep. I haven’t been able to sleep in the last six months.”
Still not awake enough to process without coffee Kurt just nodded, “I…um, okay. You can take the couch. I still don’t understand why you just didn’t use your keys.”
Dave was smiling, clearly awake and clearly finding Kurt’s lack of comprehension amusing.
“I wanted you to let me in. I thought you may have still been awake… But Kurt: if you’re ready I’m ready.” He leaned into whisper, “and I don’t want to sleep on your couch. I want to sleep in your bed wrapped up with you.”

“Ladies and gentlemen. Friends and family it is my honor to announce the arrival of Mr. & Mr. Hummel-Karofsky.”
The reception hall exploded with applause as the happy couple walked and took their place in the places of honor at the head of the room before dinner and dancing began.
Later that night as the newly wedded couple swayed around the floor in their first dance the Latina ‘Best-maid-of-honor’ spotted a familiar face against the wall and went to where he was watching.
“Surprised you came.”
Sebastian laughed, “Surprised I was even invited.”
She shrugged, “I think they, Dave at least forgave you a long time ago.”
“God only knows why.”
There was a long silence.
“I’ve always wanted to sake: why did you do it?”
It was Sebastian’s turn to shrug, “Because I saw the way they looked at each other. And I didn’t know how else to get him to walk away from me.”
“You’re not as bad as you pretend to be.”
“I guess we’re more a like than you think.”
“I wouldn’t go that far.”

“David, really?”
“Yes, Kurt, really.”
“But why?”
“Because I want to carry you over the threshold. And we both know that your inner romantic is loving it. And if argue about it any more its going to become less romantic.”
He knew Dave was right on all accounts but he wanted to be stubborn just a bit longer.
“What if I wanted I carry you over the threshold.”
Dave’s eyebrow went up as he tried not to laugh. With Dave’s silence Kurt let loose his own laugh.
“Fine” he relented, “but this does not make me the bride.”
Dave nodded Fervently, “And I would never want you to be.”
“Good,” Kurt wrapped his arms around Dave’s back allowing himself to be lifted and carried.
The door to the hotel’s honeymoon suite shut behind them before it opened again for a quick moment. A hand snaked out around the jarred door, leaving the ’ Do not disturb’ sign to swing as it disappeared back inside.

Chapter one
“Your nephew is cute,” said Dave as he washed dishes, “I mean he is three and he is so intelligent and strong.” He rinsed off the plate he was washing and set it aside before picking up another.
“I know Christopher is a beautiful child,” Kurt smiled at him, “Finn and Bev are lucky to have him.”
“Yeah, Bev told me they were the best people in her life,” Dave laughed. He thought of his sister-in-law’s complete adoration and passion of her family. Any one who spent time around the family knew how in love and happy they were.
Kurt nodded, “I get jealous of them at times. Finn and Bev.”
“Oh,” Dave asked, as he put down a fork before taking a seat next to Kurt at the table. “How come?”
“Yeah,” Kurt laughed, “it would be nice to have one of our own one day.”
“Yeah. I want now,” Dave said, “Sorry.”
Kurt stared at him a second, “No, don’t be. I feel the same way.”
Dave looked up at him with complete shock and slowly smiled. “Really,” he finally said.
“Really,” Kurt said smiling back, “I want to have kids with you.”
Dave grinned as he pulled his chair over to Kurt, “Really?”
“Really,” Kurt said nodding his head before being. Dave’s grin became even wider before he leaned over and gave Kurt a kiss on the lips. Kurt sighed into the kiss. Dave’s kisses always were on the passionate side of things. Kisses with Blaine were precise and meticulous. Dave kissed like he was starved for Kurt. Dave slowly pulled out of the kiss before resting his forehead against Kurt’s.
“So we are going to have a baby,” Dave said. His voice hush and filled with hope.
“Yeah one day,” Kurt said, “we’re going to have to figure out the whole plan and that is going to take awhile.”
“Yeah it could take us a while,” Dave said
“We could adopt or we could do this through surrogate or…”
“We could do the new medical procedure,” said Dave amused at Kurt. Kurt looked confused for a second. “I found the research into it on your work bench in the office.”
Kurt looked down and blushed, “I want to adopt but I would love if our first child was someone who came from both of us and one of us carrying our child. I know it sounds stupid -”
“Okay,” said Dave, “I am okay with this, even if I have to be the one carrying. I am not so sure I want to but”
“Exactly,” said Kurt already planning things. He already knew he wanted to be the carrier. Besides pregnancy looks easy. Sure his girl friends all complained to a degree about their pregnancies but his pregnancy is different. He was born male and is a man. Those who were born male usually had easier pregnancy. Well that was what he read anyway.
They would go in, find out he could carry, they will knock him up and he will carry the baby. What could possibly go wrong? That night in bed they cuddled close. It wasn’t until the next day after he woke Dave with a good morning Saturday blowjob that was quickly returned. They talked about their options more and Dave agreed but he wanted them both to see if they could both carry because they were both different body types.
They talked it over in bed only to get up and got to the bathroom or get food. On Sunday they spoke it over in the office, they read up information. Stuff they could find about the medical procedure. They found out most of the symptoms the pregnant man will face is the same as those a pregnant woman. It was considered a higher risk pregnancy by 10% to 75% depending on how far along. They go through a surgery where they implant a device. After it is all set they implant three embryos. Just in case one implants. If one doesn’t the whole process was more nothing and has to be redone. It is a time consuming practice and expensive. For those who go through the treatment have a 1 out of four chance on the get go of having a miscarriage right off the bat. The chances have been lowered after insertion of the womb in the first month the chance of miscarriage is 75% chance. However there was a chance that there body wouldn’t be able to handle the new womb so they kept the carrier over night.
“We’re going to have a baby,” Dave whispered, “Our kid is going to know we love him.”
Kurt couldn’t help but smile. Soon their less perfect married life will be filled with a child. The next day at work Kurt called the clinic that did the procedure for an appointment.
The appointment was two weeks later on a Saturday. They talked about it every night. Kurt couldn’t wait to tackle the baby room. When they got to the appointment they arrived 15 minutes early to do the paperwork. They finished the paperwork quickly before handing it back to the assistant. The room had several pictures of babies in flowers and pots. The room had several dull Ikea couches and the walls were white.
“I swear these pictures were made by someone who did too much crack,” Grumbled Dave staring at them before getting up and pacing around the room.
“Dave, there is nothing to be worried about,” said Kurt.
“How can you be so calm about this,” said Dave, “When this appointment could end with finding out if one of us can carry our future kid. Fuck, we could find out neither of us can.”
“We will deal with that when it happens,” said Kurt, “Besides our body types are very different. One of us should be able to carry.”
“I am not so sure I want to be the carrier,” Dave confessed. Kurt stared at him shocked. “I mean I would if it comes down to it I would but the idea of holding another life in you is quite a lot.”
Kurt smiled, “I would love to carry our baby. I want to be able to carry him … or her. It would be interesting.”
“Well girls get the short end of things,” grumbled Dave, “I lived with Bev and Sebastian. When ever it was that time of the month Sebastian would run and I would have to deal with Bev at her worst. The only times Sebastian was around to deal with her at that time was to watch the movie of choice that day.”
Kurt smiled softly, “Sebastian ran and hid from the “scary” woman in pain.”
“You didn’t live with her,” Said Dave glaring.
“Mr. Hummel and Mr. Karofsky, Dr. Reitman will be seeing you,” said a nurse interrupting them, “The room is this way. Follow me.” Both men got up and thanked her before following behind. The little examination room was well equipped. On a chair beside the examination table was a few magazines and beside the small cupboard and sink was a small office chair. “The doctor will see you in a few minutes.”
“Thank you,” said Kurt as Dave just nodded his head and hunched over. The two waited for a few minutes in silence. Kurt watched as his husband licked his lips before leaning over and softly kissing him.
“Everything is going to be okay,” said Kurt amused, “I thought I was the worry wart in the relationship.”
Dave rolled his eyes before kissing Kurt on the lips in response. “Shut up,” said Dave as he pulled away. His lips were quirked in that way that Kurt found irresistible. Kurt kissed Dave again his arms wrapping around Dave’s waist. He could feel Dave’s smile on his lips.
The door opened causing the two to slowly part. A little Grey haired woman with brown eyes smiled at them, "hello Mr. Karofsky and Mr. Hummel. I am Dr. Ivanna Reitman. So I heard you two wanted to have a baby through the Toco-invitro method. Now I am both going to tell you this that both of you have the option of saying no to this procedure if either of you don't feel up to it. Also if the pregnancy gets to hard for ANY health issues you can opt out at most points."
"Yeah," said Dave "We have both talked this over and we are both willing to go through with a nine month pregnancy."
"We both know what we are getting into," said Kurt, frowning.
"I am glad you both do but it can be not easy on a person's mental health which your span for getting an abortion if necessary for is 20 weeks and if because the pregnancy is putting your body at risk or the fetus is not viable you have till 35 weeks."
"We haven't even gone through with the pregnancy yet and you are throwing abortion on the table already," said Kurt confused, "Are you trying to scare us out of this?"
"I am sorry I am having to tell you this but so many times men come into this office thinking pregnancy is a piece of cake and it isn't for many," explained Dr. Reitman, "Pregnancy has issues spring up in many. Some of these issues will be minor annoyances and others can be life threatening or it could be somewhere in between. Men have a higher risk because several of my patients found that themselves going through a feeling similar to gender dysphoria. Their minds are telling them they are men but their bodies are going through something very female which gives them a big mental block of no."
"I see," Kurt said. This sounded like it was going to be harder than he thought. Most of this was not mentioned on any of the websites they went to. The ones that did were anti for the procedure and he could point out huge lies on those sites.
"Are there any more risks we should no about," Dave asked, "that the sites might not have informed us about?"
"On a physical side all female pregnancy symptoms which are many and we have no idea what you will experience and a slim chance the false uterus will at one point detach or become deadly," Dr. Reitman explained, "About a 8 out of 1000 chance of that happening of it becoming detached. The number for that being deadly is questioned. Do you two want to talk about this more?"
Both Kurt and Dave looked at each other and hesitated. "I will be fine with all that comes from this," said Kurt unhesitant before looking at Dave, "David, I might be okay with this but if I can't would you be able to do this."
Dave winced before nodding his head, "Yeah. I understand what we are getting ourselves into. So what comes next?"
Dr. Reitman smiled, "excellent. Now next on the agenda is the following: a normal check up, an x-ray and an ultrasound. I will also be giving you both some blood, urine and stool tests that you will need to get done in the next week to tell for anything that will see if you are able to and in the next appointment we will sit down and figure out of you can bodily be qualified for the toco-invitro procedure. Do either of you want to do these exams together or separately?"
"Together," answered Dave, "I mean I want Kurt there."
"I feel the same," said Kurt with his eyes softening towards David,
"Good. We can begin the process," Dr. Reitman had an amused sounding voice. The next 5 hours were spent having examinations. Both Dave and Kurt were surprised it didn't take as long as they thought it would. The next day they went and got all of the tests they needed done because they wanted to know as soon as possible if either could carry. Kurt couldn't help but hope more than ever he was able to carry Dave and his child. As they were leaving Dave turned to Kurt. "Are we going to tell our family about this, when our family is here for thanksgiving when they come for dinner?"
"If you want," Kurt told him.
"Yeah, I do," said Dave, taking Kurt's hand as they walked down the street.
"Than we will."
Chapter Two
That weekend their family was there which consisted of Burt and Carole visiting and Finn, Bev and their son Christopher. Plus Santana, Her very pregnant wife Kanzas and their one year old and Rachel were there because they were Kurt's sisters from different parents. Plus Dave’s Dad and Sebastian of all people. The only person missing of their family was Puck, Christopher's godfather.
“Gay face you do make a great mashed sweet potato,” said Sebastian. Kurt glared at him while taking a sip. He knew what was going to happen next. Every times Dave, Sebastian and Bev came together they have two or three times have silent arguments.
"Sebastian be nice," said Bev, "or I will be telling everyone those beautiful stories your mother told me about you. I mean it would be awful for people to learn that you cried for a week straight because you found out at the age of 13 Santa didn't exist."
"Really," asked Kurt perking up.
"You promised to keep that a secret, Bevin," snapped Sebastian.
"I lied," said Bev. Sebastian glared. She scoffed at him before rubbing two fingers together showing she was playing the world's smallest violin. Kurt watched Sebastian make a face at her before sticking out his tongue at her. She rolled her eyes and made a face at him. The two were quietly making faces at each other before Dave rolled his eyes and smacked the table causing both Bev and Sebastian to look up at him. Dave looked at the both of them before making a gesture to everyone else. The two looked down and pouted. Both Sebastian turn and softly smiled at each other giving each other small thumbs ups. Dave coughed into his fist before giving Sebastian an expectant look and nodded towards Kurt. Sebastian scoffed before looking at Bev who was also giving him a similar look as Dave. Kurt could see the confusion on Burt and Carole's faces as this was the first time they have ever seen one of these spats but every one else was used to it.
Sebastian rolled his eyes before turning towards Kurt, "Sorry Kurt for calling you Gay face again. I will try harder for that not to happen again."
"I accept your apology," said Kurt amused by what just happened.
Santana looked around confused, "how do you three do that?"
"We all roomed together for five years," Dave explained, "I am sure Kurt, Rachel and you still have weird things you still do."
"No honey we don't," said Kurt patting his leg under the table, "although it is quite amusing when you three go into your little quiet arguments."
"So do they do that often," Burt asked, taking a second helping of turkey.
"All the time," Santana said, "It gets old really fast."
"We used to do it all the time in college," Bev shrugged nonchalantly, "It was either do that or get kicked out of our apartment."
"Honestly you three look crazy doing that miming arguing you do," said Rachel taking a sip of her wine.
"Hey, Rachel I sucked off Finn this morning not you," said Bev while feeding her kid a thing of mashed peas causing Rachel to choke on her whine and glare at her. Carole stared at her for second before rolling her eyes. Burt smiled into his beer.
"Bevin," Finn whispered to her, "You said you were going to play nice."
"No, Honey, I didn't. I said that if the cunt said any rude things to me about anything I do I will bring up one thing she can't do anymore," said Bev.
"I don't think you will ever get old for me," said Burt amused. Kurt never could understand how everything Bev said seemed to amuse him especially when she became more crass than usual.
"So we have something to tell you guys," said Dave, stopping the argument before it heads into a yelling match and broken dishes between the two women. Kurt didn't think they actually were fighting over Finn any more. Bev even told him she wasn't fight over Finn, she just found it hilarious how much it ticked off Rachel to bring up her and Finn's sex life to the woman. Rachel he was sure still loved Finn but wasn't in love with Finn anymore because she was now dating guy number 16, a Frank Gilmore. Frank was a kind, easygoing guy who made Rachel laugh and supported Rachel's dreams and ambitions. He wasn't there because he was doing something work related but he wasn't sure what. He was sure it wasn't prostitution like Brody and not does cocaine and heroin like Alexander. He also wasn't boring like Ralph the accountant and Billy the elderly. The guy was also better than Stewie who he found out a year later that he punched her and she left him because of that. So Kurt didn't mind him. Dave thought they made a cute couple.
"Oh," said Santana, "you are not pregnant. Are you?"
"Actually we are going to be trying that toco-Invitro plan to have kids," said Dave, "I mean not yet but I would say at earliest February one of us could be pregnant."
"One of you," asked Kanzas.
"Well G- Kurt I would say congratulations on your future pregnancy," Said Sebastian, "always knew you were the girl in the relationship."
"Actually Sebastian either of us could be the one carrying it," Dave corrected him.
"Wha-," said Bev, both Sebastian and her stared at Dave like he grew an extra head.
"Dave you do know all the risks involved with pregnancy right," asked Sebastian, sitting a little more on edge of his seat, "I mean what with the fact that it is the highest rated killing disease for women in the world. You could die from this. There are so many complications."
"To be honest," said Carole, "I don't think Dave would be the one carrying. I don't think you would be able to handle it as well as Kurt. Not because your body isn't strong enough but mentally you won't be able to handle it as well."
"I think I can handle it," said Dave wounded, "besides I am the back up plan if Kurt can't."
"You two need not to listen to Sebastian about the high risk factor of pregnancy," added Kanzas, "With Santana when she was pregnant with Mora she was constantly sick all the time and couldn't leave our bed for the month before giving birth. I found pregnancy actually quite easy for me except for the occasional back pain and cravings."
"I had morning sickness and evening sickness with Finn and my gums bled," said Carole remembering, "I lost three teeth and gained 2 dress sizes pounds because of Finn but well worth it."
"It was constant irritations after another with Christopher," said Bev, "My joints were all inflamed. I needed to puke constantly. I was hospitalized twice because of pregnancy issues. Christopher also broke my tailbone a month before giving birth which wasn't fun."
"Dave’s mother dealt with morning sickness and eclampsia," said Paul, "I remember sitting there in the waiting room praying they would both make it and making promises of taking them for who they are and being there for them. Well as you can see Dave is here today and so is my ex-wife. I wish she could see what a blessing our son is.”
"Dad I didn't know," said Dave. Kurt tried thinking of a world with out David and his life would be so much different and shuddered. It wasn’t a life really worth living.
“But would all of you do it over again,” asked Sebastian, “because really is some dumb kid worth it?”
All the women looked about the room at each other. “It all depends,” said Carole, “Would I go through having Finn again? Yes. Having another? No. Never. Finn is it for me.”
“I- um- well, yeah I would totally do it again because I want another kid and in a few years adopt a third,” said Bev, “Maybe a girl?”
“Sure,” agreed Finn patting her on the leg, “I want a pretty little girl one day.”
“I am just in first so,” said Kanzas, “so ask me after but yeah I would.”
“Yeah but your pregnancy is easy. You haven’t gone through buck shit in any real annoyances that weren’t just something you could wave off. As for having kids again, no,” Santana stated, “I love my kid, I wouldn’t go back in time change anything but pregnancy is hell. I won’t ever go through it again.”
“So Rachel you are the only girl here who hasn’t popped one out,”
“I found out I’m sterile,” said Rachel, “and I am so busy that I really don’t think I want one. I mean I love everyone’s kids here but they are so much work and time and effort and I don’t think I have it in me. Honestly Christopher’s my favorite of all the kids.” Rachel than smiled sweetly at Bev in the same smile she gives when she is happily trying to piss someone off.
“I am sure you are his favorite aunt,” said Bev smiling at her.
“I’m sorry Rachel,” said Kurt, “do you want us to drop this subject or…”
“No I am quite interested in this discussion,” said Rachel, “when are you going in about this?”
“We are going in sometime next week to see which one of us is able to,” said Kurt, “But after that I am not to sure.”
Rachel nodded.
“Look whenever it is,” said Burt, “This is a big step you two are taking and I am proud of both of you. There are times a head of you that will be tough.”
“I agree,” said Paul, “kids are handfuls and life isn’t always easy. Things always don’t go as you expect and kids will always surprise you. Sometimes good; sometimes bad.”
“Tell me about it,” said Santana waving her hand at that, “I don’t want to know how she got into my tampons.”
“Christopher hasn’t really shocked me yet,” said Bev, “my advice stock up on diapers now because when that kid comes diapers are going to be hard to find and for the love of every deity do not do the with out diapers training. It’s stupid.”
“The what?”
“My sister is trying to potty train her new born,” said Bev groaning.
Sebastian stared at her, “How in the hell do you train a newborn to pee in a toilet?”
“By leaving a bunch of bowls for peeing in around the house and then when they need to go if out in public let them pee and shit in the street,” explained Finn, “they say at one point they will be able to train the kid to pee on command.”
The conversation slowly got into weird parenting techniques and strange things kids did. By the time everyone left for their perspective hotels or homes. The night was long and hard. The next day they used it to talk over the baby.
Chapter Three
“Well, you two look happy today,” said Dr. Reitman as she walked into the door for their next appointment. “How was your guy’s thanksgiving?”
“It was great,” said Kurt, “nothing like family and friends.”
“That is great,” said dr. Reitman, “I got the tests if you don’t mind me cutting to the chase.”
“What did you find,” Dave asked.
“I am going to go
“I found that Kurt while your completely healthy your hips would not be able to take the pregnancy at all. The tests found that you have a high percent of miscarrying and there isn’t any place to hold the baby. It would be too dangerous for you. I am so sorry.”
He nodded his head at what the doctor said. Kurt felt his hopes smashed to pieces. This was unfair.
“I am so sorry Kurt,” said Dave, wrapping his arms around Kurt.
“It’s fine,” said Kurt, “how about Dave’s tests?”
“Actually Dave can carry a child to term. We would need to do caesarean section of course but the baby would most likely have
“Me,” Dave said Kurt could see him trying to hide a wince.
“Do you want to go through with this,” asked Kurt.
“I- can we talk this over,” asked Dave. Dave’s arms wrapped around him a little tighter as he placed his
“Of course,” Dr. Reitman said, “we can make another appointment or you can call to make an appointment to move on to actually implanting of the device.”
“Yes that would be nice,” said Kurt.
“I’ll just let myself out,” said Dr. Reitman as soon as Dr. Reitman left the room Kurt turned around to look at David.
“Look can we talk about this at home when we go to bed,” asked Dave.
Kurt opened his mouth to add something but a quick look from Dave had him shutting it. Kurt than went on to says, “Okay, we’ll talk about this at night after dinner.”
“Thank you I just need a few hours to get my thoughts,” said Kurt, “but we are talking about this later.”
“Alright,” said Kurt, Dave’s lips quickly descending on his own softly petting his lips in a kiss.
“Thank you.”
That night Kurt did as he was asked. He partially didn’t want to talk about it as well because he wanted to be the carrier but he also wants this baby. That night both Kurt and Dave got ready for bed. He could hear the shower going as he got changed into a pair of boxers, As soon as David got out of the bathroom.
“So are we having this kid,” asked Kurt. Dave rolled his eyes and let out a sigh.
“I really do want this kid but I am gun shy about this pregnancy thing,” David confessed, “It freaks me out a little.”
“Oh,” Kurt asked. He watched as Dave’s towel dropped to the floor.
“I am not afraid of pregnancy but it isn’t always easy to deal with. I mean the girls pointed that out weeks ago,” Said Dave as he yanked on a pair of boxers from the dresser.
“I know that,” said Kurt frowning as he got into bed.
“Look Kurt I know that you want to have a kid. I want it too,” said Dave that night, as they were getting ready. “We can do this thing still with me involved as the surrogate, the carrier of our children. I mean they said I am able too.” Dave watched him.
“I am fine with not being able to have our kid,” lied Kurt as Dave got into bed, “are you sure you want to do this though?”
“I am not sure,” said Dave, “I- yeah I would be okay with it. I want kids so bad.”
“We can go through Surrogacy,” said Kurt, “I mean we could ask one of our girl friends to carry our child.”
“I don’t know about that. I love Bev and Santana and the girls but I wouldn’t ask them of that.”
“We could go to an agency,” suggested Kurt, “But I would like to know the mother.”
“Adoption takes too long,” Dave said, “and it is a lot more work. I mean we got into that doctor for this procedure with ease.”
Kurt nodded. He has heard many hate the idea. Sebastian hated it. His only friend he could think of who might go through with it was Randy and that was because Randy tended to experiment with things he thought was weird from eating bugs to piercings of his own genitals. He knew Blaine would have hated the process as well if that train didn’t hit him in 2016. He felt a pang of sorrow for his ex. He died too young. It is always the good taken too young.
“You thinking of Blaine,” asked Dave. Kurt nodded. “I am sure he would be happy for you being happy.”
“I somehow doubt he would like the fact I moved on,” laughed Kurt, “He proposed to me when we weren’t dating. We didn’t talk for a few months because I turned him down.”
Dave stared at him, “what? Why is this the first time I heard of this?”
“It’s no big deal,” said Kurt, shrugging it off, “that is all done and over with. Our worry is if we are having this baby or not.”
Dave sighed Dave licked his lips and nodded, “Yeah I’ll do it.”
“Really,” asked Kurt, “you don’t have to do it.”
“I want to,” said Dave, “I want to have a kid. You want to have a kid. I was found that I could do this. I – so yeah.”
“Really,” asked Kurt, “are you sure.”
“I am sure,” said Dave, “are you wanting this to happen.”
“Yes,” said Kurt, “I want a kid. We’re going to have a kid.”
“Yeah,” Dave said, “we’re having a kid.” Dave kissed on the lips.
“I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
It wasn’t long after that they made the appointment and booked for two weeks off. The first thing the first part of the treatment was for the both of them was to collect sperm. David’s sperm was going to go and be made into oocytes or unfertilized eggs, which would be quickly fertilized with David’s Contribution. After a week they would than insert the small fake uterus in surgery. This would take 4-6 hours. The doctors would than go in and insert the now fertilized egg into the ovary. After that is a 48-hour watch and they find out if it is taken. If not they take it out and it is a year before they can try again for safety precautions.
It didn’t take long for them to get things done in January.
It was on a Friday they went in in the morning to set the appointment for the sperm collection. They than went in on Monday to have the procedure done. Kurt found waiting in the lobby through out the procedure long and worrying. He was worried for David’s safety. He also wished he was in their doing this instead because he wanted to be the one pregnant but because he didn’t want Dave hurt or killed. But this baby meant the world to them and they both wanted it. Dave also made the choice as well. It wasn’t long before the doctor came to see him and tell him the surgery went well but that David wasn’t out of the clear yet. But he could go in and watch him sleep until visiting hours were over. He went home tired that night and was back the earliest he could. It was a few hours after that did Dave wake up.
“Hey,” Dave said tired, “how long have you been hear?”
“A few hours,” Kurt said. Watching Dave fight nodding off again.
“So how long have I been out?”
“Since you went into surgery yesterday,” Kurt said holding his hand.
“They gave you enough for the surgery,” Kurt said, “but after that it was mostly all you sleeping off the surgery and the left over drugs in your system.”
Dave nodded tiredly. “Oh. I shouldn’t be feeling this tired.”
“You just came out of a long surgery. It’s understandable,” said Kurt, taking hold of Dave’s hands.
“Everything might end up different. Is going to be different after this,” said David. “Isn’t it?”
“Not yet,” said Kurt, “maybe the few months before the baby comes but not yet.” He just hoped by then he would get over it in his head he isn’t the one carrying the child.
Chapter four
At first Kurt was right. Nothing did change. Everything was going great the first few weeks of the pregnancy and then Kurt noticed David showing and he was pulling away from David. He wasn’t trying too. He just couldn’t touch David’s middle anymore. They still cuddled and had sex but he couldn’t touch where the baby is when Kurt started to notice David’s belly growing with their child. A part of him knew he was being childish and immature. He wanted to be the one who gave birth to their child but David is.
There child was inside of David and while he couldn’t wait to meet their son. He couldn’t help but be jealous of David but at the same time a part of him wants to constantly be touching him because of the amazingness that is going on in David. So he knew he was giving off hot and cold vibes.
Kurt knew something was bothering David but he didn’t want to ask. He was constantly moody and cranky. Kurt believed it was pregnancy related and a part of him just didn’t want to ask. Something he knew was holding him back and he just couldn’t ask these questions. So when he came home after going to work to find the mirror that used to hang in front of their entrance gone. There was only left a tiny nail with a hanger on it. He slowly made his way through the apartment and found that mirrors were missing from the bathroom and the guest room wall they are slowly converting into a baby room. The last room he checked was the master bedroom where he found two other missing mirrors and his sleeping husband.
Kurt stared at the sight. David was wearing an oversized grey t-shirt with a logo of the New York Rangers and a pair of black sweatpants. Kurt smiled softly thinking about a few fights they had over those pants because he hated them. Dave’s forearm was thrown over his face and his mouth partially open. The swell of Dave’s stomach was more visible. He was definitely 4 months pregnant with their child. He felt a splash of green come over him and a warm coziness squeeze around his heart. He watched Dave sleep awhile before crawling into the bed beside his husband. Dave made a small grumble in his sleep his face slowly twisting into a frown. Dave slowly started waking up and glanced over at Kurt.
“How long have you been here,” Dave grumbled tired.
“Not long,” said Kurt, softly smiling back.
Dave let out a sigh. “What time is it,” he asked.
“A little over six,” Said Kurt, “I should go make dinner.”
“Okay,” Dave said frowning at him but not saying anything. It wasn’t until then that their apartment landline called. Dave groaned, “I’ll get it. It’s probably Sebastian again.”
Kurt rolled his eyes, “I will be going to go make dinner.”
“’Kay and Kurt, I love you,” said Dave before picking up the ringing phone that was beside their bed.
Kurt turned and headed out to make some spaghetti with chicken Parmesan because he knew he had the ingredients. He quickly made the meal with little fuss. He could here David on the phone with Sebastian. At one point he heard a laugh come out of the room from his husband but for the most part it was quiet. It wasn’t until he went to get his husband for supper that he over heard some of the conversation.
“Your crazy,” said Dave, “I’m not going to die.” Pause. “I don’t care what the Internet says I don’t have type II diabetes even temporarily.” Pause. “You are worrying more about me than Kurt is.” Kurt could feel the mood shift in the conversation. “Look Seb, I have to go. Things will change okay.” Pause “I’m not so sure if things will be okay but I am going to hope okay.” Pause. “Okay bye.”
“So what is Sebastian calling about now,” asked Kurt walking into the room.
“He is worrying about the pregnancy,” said David, “He heard of shit on the Internet and is now over reacting. It’s nothing really.”
Kurt nodded his head and hummed. “Dinner’s ready.”
“Yeah,” said Dave quietly. The two stared at each other before a second before going and having a second meal that week in silence. Kurt wanted to fix things but something was holding himself back. That something was himself.
It wasn’t until a week later that he got himself a wake up call.
“This is an intervention Hummel,” said Bev as she walked into his office followed by Rachel and Santana, “You need a good talking too because at the moment you are being an idiot.”
Kurt looked over at her from his desk, “I’m sorry what?”
“If you do not stop what you are doing your marriage to Dave will end,” said Rachel as the two walked up behind him.
“I am not so sure of what you are talking about,” said Kurt, “I need to finish this article for work.”
Santana smacked him across the back of the head, “not what we are talking about. Dave is telling me in the last month or three you have distanced yourself from him. He thinks you don’t love him anymore because of stupid reasons and thinking of temporarily leaving you.”
“I thought I was going to be the bad cop,” said Rachel pouting.
Bev and Santana both glanced at each other before rolling their eyes “we lied.”
“What are you three talking about,” said Kurt. His heart was pounding as he looked at the two.
“The boy is smart,” said Bev.
“Look Lady Hummel,” said Santana, “Your boy is thinking of temporarily moving in with Sebastian because he thinks you don’t want to fuck him. I don’t know why because honestly having sex with someone you knocked up is the hottest thing in the world.”
“He thinks that you are starting to fall out of love with him,” said Bev, “If you don’t go talk with your husband now you will be divorcing him before your kid is a year old.”
“I- what,” said Kurt.
“He is going to move in with Sebastian,” said Bev slowly, “The man that calls David constantly afraid he is dying because you are an idiot.”
“Bev don’t say things like this,” said Rachel, “Why have you been distancing your self away from him?”
“I,” said Kurt before looking at Rachel and remembering her saying she couldn’t have kids, “I wanted to be the one who carried our child. I am being stupid.”
“Damn fucking straight you are,” said Santana rolling her eyes.
"Kurt at one point I used to think of Bev and Finn’s kids and think that any kid Finn had should have been mine," said Rachel, "But than Christopher was born and I thought I would feel some jealousy over him not being mine and nothing. The idea of kids is a lot more appealing to me than an actual kid. After a second pregnancy scare with Ralph I decided I didn’t want children ever so I got sterilized. Frank feels the same way about kids and one day I am going to marry Frank and I am going to have a bunch of puppies with him. Not because a part of me doesn't like the idea but because kids were never really meant to be in my future."
“What is your point, Rachel,” asked Kurt.
“I am saying that sometimes you don’t get what you want but in the end you get what you need,” said Rachel, “and maybe you couldn’t have this baby but you are going to have this baby anyway. Your baby is going to love you as his daddy.”
“Yeah,” said Bev.
Kurt looked down at what he working at before packing up.
“What are you doing,” asked Santana. All three women looked confused.
“I am going home to my husband and working things out like an adult,” said Kurt.
Bev pouted, “I didn’t think it would be this easy.”
“You told me just now that Dave is leaving me,” said Kurt, “I don’t want to wait and find out what you told me is true. So you three found your way into the building. You can show yourselves out. I am going home to fix things.” Kurt walked out of his office and started heading home. When he got there he walked into their bedroom to find David in front of a suitcase.
“What are you doing?”
“What does it look like I am doing?” Dave looked down at the bag on the bed they shared for several years.
“Walking out on us I hear,” Kurt said, “Santana, Bev and Rachel cornered me at work.”
Dave choked on a laugh, “I think you started walking out on us a while back and I honestly don’t know where to pinpoint when you started and when I realized that you didn’t love me anymore or found me attractive.”
“I find you attractive,” Kurt said, “I do. I was being stupid and jealous and Rachel, Bev and Santana all kicked my ass for being stupid. I still love you. I love you with all my heart.”
Dave’s lip twitched, “I never thought I would here the day Bev and Rachel getting along.”
Kurt smiled, “me either. It was a sight.”
Dave looked at him, “Why were you jealous?”
“I wanted to carry our child a lot,” Kurt confessed, “I guess a part of me thought our son wouldn’t be as close to me as he would be to you.”
“That is stupid,” Dave scoffed, “he’s going to love you.” Kurt kissed his cheek.
“I’m sorry I pulled away,” Kurt said, “I was being selfish.”
“Yeah you were,” Dave said, a little bitterness in his voice, “and I needed you the most this past few month the most.”
“I’m here now,” Kurt said before kissing Dave’s jaw. “Tell me what you need me for?”
“I need you to tell me I don’t look like a woman,” Dave confessed, “I keep looking in the mirror and I just can’t see that I am a man and I feel trapped in this body and I’m a man and with this baby I don’t feel like one anymore.” Dave’s lips trembled and he sounded like he was about to cry.
“So that is why you took down all the mirrors,” Kurt asked. Dave couldn’t respond he nodded his head and looked down as if ashamed.
“Oh Dave, you look completely like a man,” Kurt said, “If I wasn’t too caught up in my own selfishness I would have told you so. I should have told you so. Everything about you is masculine and you are handsome. I love you so much and so manly.”
““I thought you looked at me and started seeing a woman and started to want to leave me,” said Dave, Men don’t carry babies. They can’t get pregnant and here I am pregnant because of science that I volunteered for.”
“Yes, they can,” Kurt said, “even if your penis became a vagina and clit and breast extended. You would still be a man because your gender is in your head. You are a man. You’re just a very pregnant man who is carrying our baby; the baby that we are going to raise together. That baby is going to have two daddies who love him very much.”
Dave hesitated as he glanced at Kurt as he asked; “if you thought of me as a woman, would you still love me?”
“I don’t know how to answer that with out hurting you,” Kurt said before trying, “If you came to me one day and told me that you were a woman. Yes I would still love you because that is you and I love everything about you.”
“I am so sorry,” Kurt murmured as Dave turned his head to kiss Kurt on the lips. The kiss felt like an apology. It was soft and careful. It was as if Dave was afraid it wasn’t real. Dave tasted of peppermint toothpaste. He could feel the frown that was on Dave’s lips before slowly melt away. The one that he didn’t realize before was their a lot these few days. He smelt of distinct aftershave that he wore and had a scent to him that was distinctly Dave’s. Slowly and surely Dave slowly became more confident. He heard Dave whimper before he felt Dave intensify the kiss. Kurt’s hands went to the back of Dave’s neck and entangled his fingers in Dave’s short and curly hair.
Dave slowly turned his body so the front of his body fit against the front. It wasn’t until than that Kurt realized how much his selfishness had made him miss out on. How much he found Dave sexually attractive pregnant with their child and how Dave could have walked out on them because of it. He realized right then that he could have lost everything because of one tiny thing. He also realized how attractive he found David pregnant or the fact that he wanted to show how arousing he found David in the state he was in. He could feel his arousal grow as he slowly places one hand on Dave’s belly.
“I am so sorry,” mutter Kurt as the kiss slowly ended, “So sorry.”
“It’s okay,” said Dave, “We’ll work this out.”
“Anyway you want,” agreed Kurt, “I will do anything to make sure that we work out.”
“I want to go back to therapy,” Dave said, “both on a personal side and… couples? It’s not bad to go into couple’s therapy or anything
“Of course,” said Kurt, “We’ll do therapy.” Dave smiled softly before leaning over and softly pressing a kiss to Kurt’s lips. Kurt felt Dave’s belly move against him before he leaned over and kissed Dave’s belly. He knew that they would need to work hard and he needed to work to gain Dave’s trust back. But he knew it was all going to be worth it in the end. Because Dave and their child are both worth it and more.
Epilogue
“Lily clean up your toys. Guests are coming over,” Dave yelled as he looked down at the risk game scattered across the living room floor. He didn’t know why anyone bought that game for her. The five year old came out of her bedroom with a scold on her face. She surprised them daily from the day she was born to be exact.
“Uncle Seb and Aunties Bev and ‘Tana are coming over,” Lily said, “I need them to look over my plots of world domination.” Her hands on her hips and scolding up at him with Dave’s brown eyes staring at him with Kurt’s nose and cheek bones and nose staring up at him. Her lips in a scold like as if Dave was the one in the wrong and something. Dave rolled eyes before giving Kurt an incredulous look and waving at her. Kurt laughed.
“Don’t take that tone with me missy,” Dave scolded her before turning to scold his husband, “also don’t encourage her.”
Kurt held up his hands, “She is going to be a good world leader one day.”
“Too good of one,” Dave grumbled as the doorbell rang.
“I’ll get it,” She yelled as she ran for the front door.
“No you don’t answer the door,” Kurt yelped as she threw open the door to reveal his Burt and Carole.
“Kurt when did I become the uncool parent,” Dave asked.
Kurt rolled his eyes as he walked towards the door, “You are not uncool.”
“Hi Grandpa, Grandma,” She said throwing herself at Burt.
“Hey kiddo,” Burt said, as he hugged his granddaughter.
“Hey Dad,” Kurt said, “Carole. It’s good to see you two.”
“It’s good to see you too.”
“You both look happy,” Carole said, hugging Dave before hugging Kurt.
“Grandpa there was this mean, dumb goat fucker at the park yesterday and I told him to not judge my aunty for being gay and Aunt Tana laughed and scolded me for saying bad words but said I didn’t have to apologize for being honest and it was awesome and I shouldn’t have said that word again. I’m sorry grandpa,” Lily said before turning to Carole, “Grandma want me to show you how I am going to take over the world.”
“Sure sweetie,” Carole said looking at both Kurt and Dave incredulous at Lily’s language as she was pulled into the living room.
“Where did she learn that language,” Burt asked both Kurt and Dave.
“I have no idea,” Kurt said, “that is the first time I heard that story but I think Santana dealt with it well.”
Dave snorted before wiggling his eyebrows at Kurt, “Damn queer.”
“That Santana is a good kid and her rugrats with Sara are great,” Burt said, “How’s the adoption going?”
“The papers and everything are going great so far,” Dave told him.
“Yes we have an interview with the agency for a two year old named Erick,” Kurt said, “if things work out we might be taking him home in three months and if things work out after six we get to keep him permanently.” Burt nodded, “I’m going to go see what my grandkid is doing.”
“Okay, Dad,” Kurt said hugging him before he walked away.
“Glad things worked out,” Dave asked, teasingly.
“Do I need to say so,” Kurt said, as he went over and half leaned on his husband. “I love my family. I love you and I can’t wait till we expand it even more.”
“Yeah, me too,” Dave said the two kissing slowly, “Still got the dumb idea that you would be closer to our kid if you gave birth to it.”
Kurt groaned, “No I lost that a long time ago.” It wasn’t long before the doorbell rang and they heard their daughter come running through the small house for the door.
“We’ll talk after the guests leave,” Dave said before softly kissing his husband on the forehead. The two both didn’t realize that they were both thinking the same thing at that moment and it was that life couldn’t get better than this.
If/when we post a fill for the google prompt page is there a certain tag we should use so whoever may have posted the prompt or those just wanting to see the fills?
No, I don't think so. Just write "TAKEN" at the beginning of the prompt so people visiting the google doc will know that someone's working on that fill, and then tag on tumblr with 'kurtofsky' so i could find and reblog it. You can then add a link to your fill directly in the doc so visiting people will be able to see it there as well.

Title: A Love That Doesn't Lie
He could feel Kurt’s eyes on him, a normally reassuring gaze that only served to put him further on edge. It wasn’t right, that gaze- in either case.
He’s right; of course he’s right. Kurt’s always right. Dave swallows heavily, the sudden lump in his throat making the movement harder than it should’ve been. How was he supposed to say anything about it? How was he supposed to confess that for the past year that he’d apparently spent in a coma, he’d been plagued with visions so achingly real that seeing Kurt so concerned for him, seated nervously in the hard plastic chairs that hospitals seemed to think was suitable enough for visitors, was something that didn’t help him be able to separate the real from the imagined; it had felt terrifyingly real for him, the suicide attempt that was so fresh in his mind, and Kurt…
Kurt’s presence, in that exact spot, was doing nothing to help the vertigo he was convinced he was feeling as his worldview attempted to right itself once more, just enough for him to respond. His mouth was dry from disuse. “I…Kurt, I don’t know what you’re-”
“Could we please just cut past the bullcrap, David?” Kurt’s eyes hardened as he spoke, his voiced tinged with barely suppressed frustration. “You’ve never been a very good liar, and seeing as we’ve been married for five years, I’d like to think that I know you well enough by now to determine your lies from your truths.”
Dave flinched. He knew that- the only other person who knew him well enough to figure that out was his dad, and, well…he was just damn glad that his dad hadn’t arrived yet because it was hard enough denying Kurt the information that he clearly wanted. Information that Dave was too scared to share, because if it could alter his life so much in the day since he’d woken up, how was it going to affect Kurt’s life if he told him?
Apparently he’d said that last bit out loud because Kurt sighed, his hand reaching up to hold Dave’s own. Gently he stroked his thumb over the bumps his knuckles made, mindful to avoid the bits of tubing and plastic that made up his IV, his voice going soft as he spoke. “I don’t know what has you so spooked, but if…” Kurt paused, the pained expression he wore as he mentally fished for a way to finish his thought hurting Dave in ways he hadn’t thought possible, “if you really don’t want to talk about it, I’ll understand. I just want you to know though, that whatever it is…I’ll still love you. Nothing will change that.”
…Fuck, he was so screwed. Kurt had a way of making him feel guilty like no one else could, and usually he didn’t even mean to (or so Dave assumed- he’d had his suspicions on several occasions that Kurt did it on purpose because he knew that Dave couldn’t resist it, but he’d never been able to prove it).
Clumsily he cleared his throat as he awkwardly pulled his hand out of Kurt’s reach, his eyes dropping to rest on the bed sheets so he wouldn’t have to see Kurt’s expression. “I…I was a dick to you, in high school. Pushed you into lockers, slushied you…made your life a living hell. Fuck I don’t know how you put up with me. I was such a piece of shit.”
Kurt sounded confused. “I…what are you talking about, David? You weren’t one of them,” he spat the word out with so much contempt that Dave was vaguely surprised that it hadn’t come out on fire. “You were nothing less than a gentleman in high school- a feat that I’m quite frankly surprised at even now, but nonetheless…you weren’t a dick to me. I don’t even know where you got that idea in your head.”
“It happened that way in my coma,” he said softly as he fought to keep from balling his hands into fists around the scratchy blanket that covered him. “It was so real that I just…why can I only remember that and not what you’re saying, even though I know what I remember is a lie?”
Kurt spoke so quietly that Dave was convinced he’d meant to speak only loud enough for himself, and not Dave, to hear. “The doctor had said that your memories would be fuzzy…I don’t know what he’d make of this, however.”
The silence that spread between the two was just on this side of uncomfortable and thankfully only lasted a few seconds before Kurt spoke once more. “I could tell you how you really were in high school, if it’d help at all.”
Dave swallowed and then nodded quietly. He couldn’t speak- the fear he had managed to beat down returned with full force, and this time Dave didn’t fight the urge to ball his hands around the blanket.
“You were in my English class freshman year. That was the first time I met you,” Kurt laughed, the sound calming Dave enough for him to look Kurt in the eye for the first time since their conversation started, “and I admit that initially I’d written you off as just another stupid jock that wasn’t worth my time.” He shook his head in amusement. “How wrong I was…”
“We never really talked in that class- truthfully, with everything going on with glee club and the crush I’d had on Finn at the time, you never really even crossed my mind. I just knew that you were a jock that didn’t join in on the ritualistic hazing that the other jocks deemed oh-so important, and for that I was grateful; maybe not grateful enough to actually thank you, but…I was.”
Kurt paused to gather his thoughts, giving Dave time to do some thinking of his own. In his…memories, Kurt was practically nonexistent to him freshman year. He’d been so focused on Hudson – Finn; he knew it’d been years since he’d last called him “Hudson” – at the time that Kurt barely even registered as the fag that the football team had had it out for, along with the rest of the glee club members. The juxtaposition was strange, between what he remembered and what Kurt remembered, and it was already giving him a headache despite knowing that Kurt was nowhere near finished.
Kurt’s voice startled him out of his thoughts as he continued to talk once more. “Sophomore year was a little different- we had English together again, but ignoring you was more difficult. We’d been paired up for an in-class assignment, and…I’m sorry, but English never was your strong suit. I was a bit of a bitch to you even though you didn’t do anything to deserve it,” Kurt smiled sheepishly, “and I’m sorry about that, by the way. I was a bit distrustful of jocks back then, even the ones I didn’t have a problem with.”
Dave shrugged and wordlessly motioned for Kurt to continue. He couldn’t remember- it’d hardly be fair to still be annoyed at Kurt for that when all he could remember of sophomore year was him being an even bigger dick to Finn and the others than he had been the year prior.
“Funnily enough it was in English that I’d discovered how much of a math nerd you were. The only sophomore in the school to be taking pre-calculus…it’d taken me forever to build up the nerve to ask you for help with homework since I was convinced you hated me after the way I’d treated you. You didn’t, of course, and you were very helpful- you still deny it, but I maintain that I wouldn’t have passed that class with such a high grade if you hadn’t been willing to help me.”
Dave blushed. He never did quite figure out how to handle complements- in either reality, apparently.
Kurt continued on, smiling as he caught sight of Dave’s blush. “We became friends during those homework sessions, and I think…” Kurt laughed, his own cheeks coloring, “I’d started to notice that you were crushing on me. It was…surreal, especially considering until then I’d been so certain that you were another straight jock that I’d made the mistake of falling for. I’d actually thought I was imagining things until Mercedes asked me if I was keeping secret boyfriends from her and brought you up. She’d been the one to encourage me to ask you about your orientation…I’d thought for sure you’d kill me when I’d asked you, but curiosity’s a dangerous drug.”
“I’d called you that night to ask you, and you just…answered like it was no big deal even though I knew you’d never really paid it any thought before then. I think shock made you affirm my suspicions. You probably would’ve even confessed to liking me if I’d asked, but I figured that’d have been too forward, especially considering you’d just come out to me.”
Dave couldn’t believe what he was hearing; a part of him acknowledged the truth of Kurt’s words, a part that was steadily growing familiar the more Kurt spoke, but the idea of him coming out so easily, and being seemingly unafraid of what it’d meant when he’d had another two years of high school to go through…he tried reconciling it with what he remembered and couldn’t. Sophomore year he’d been so in denial about liking anything but girls that the two realities, essentially opposite in their respective truths, only served to worsen his already growing headache. Never mind that in the reality he recalled he distinctly remembered a crush on Finn that scared the living shit out of him…
Kurt continued on, heedless of Dave’s distracting thoughts. “After that we’d gotten closer. Mercedes thought it was adorable how awkward we were with one another in spite of the closeness, and I think she’d almost had a heart attack when I told her that you confessed to me on Valentine’s Day,” Kurt’s smile turned teasing, the next words he spoke bringing Dave’s blush back with full force. “Until then I’d never have pegged you for being a romantic, David. It really was sweet of you, the trouble you went to make me feel loved. We’d started dating then, and despite the ups and downs we’ve had over the years, I’d never stopped feeling loved, and loving you in return.”
The silence that followed those words clearly marked the ending of Kurt’s story, but Dave’s mind was whirling- he’d married his childhood sweetheart, something he could never have imagined happening in the reality he knew. Hell, in that reality he never even technically graduated, what with his suicide attempt and the months of therapy that followed…
It was true though, Kurt’s story. Even if his memory couldn’t confirm it, not yet anyway, something within him knew that not a single word that Kurt had spoken had been a lie, and despite the itch that demanded he ask about how their classmates reacted to them dating, he knew that was a story for another day. For now he was content to sit with Kurt, the truth of their getting together trying to fit peacefully in the headspace that it belonged in, their hands interlocked, and the feeling of love and joy running through his veins.

Prompt: Combo of both Prompts; with inspiration from the song ‘Sweet Disposition’ by the Temper Trap (from the movie (500) Days of Summer). After a couple years of being friends, Dave and Kurt come to a dawning realization.
Rating: PG
Warnings: brief reference to Dave’s suicide
An: Do not own Glee, the lyrics from the song included, or the movie in which the song is from.
After David’s suicide attempt, Kurt kept his word to stay in touch, a friendship that grew steadily. Kurt helped Dave catch up on the last of the school work to complete his senior year so that he could graduate on time and Dave returned the favor by convincing Kurt to apply to some back up schools still accepting late applications, including one which was in New York, the school they were consequently both accepted into. The two even decided to room together (to Paul Karofsky’s relief that his son would have someone he trusted to keep an eye on Dave, and to both Burt and Blaine’s reservations) after Kurt had been rejected by NYADA.
To everyone’s surprise, the two boys themselves included, Kurt and Dave fell into quite the comfortable routine in that freshmen year. Their friendship solidified as they went through various challenges: when Dave’s parents finalized their divorced, when Kurt and Blaine split due to the distance, Kurt’s disdain over the freshmen fifteen hitting him hard when it passed Dave entirely. With a success freshmen year under it was an easy decision to keep the arrangement and find an apartment together. Agreeing on an apartment had been another story, but they eventually settled on a cheap loft, large but worth the less than ideal location. The year and a half since had settled the two a well lived in arrangement.
Kurt’s arms dropped unceremoniously onto the textbook as he looked around the apartments at all the signs of the two of them scattered around; Dave’s gym bag, Kurt’s theatre makeup kit piled into a disguised tackle box which amused Dave to no end, and the second hand recliner it all of Kurt’s will power to accept its presence in his sight on a daily basis.
The sound of the front door sliding open to reveal his roommate distracted Kurt from his observations.
“I thought you had a date.”
“I did,” Dave shrugged, “I called it off, you were right, and with finals next week I should be focusing on studying and not on my love life. And as you pointed out, I’ll have time for all the men I want when I’m a successful sports agent.”
Red crept and warmed Kurt’s cheeks, “I was teasing,” He tried defending himself as the student-athlete approached the wooden table, and placed a couple of bags in front of him. “What’s that?”
Dave smiled reaching into the reusable shopping bags Kurt had bought just for him to use along with a tray of four cups of coffee, “Well, based on our earlier text conversation I assumed you were going to forget dinner, like you usually do,” pulling out two four containers of food from Kurt’s favorite Thai restaurant. “As well as two cups of our regular drinks, and two cups of coffee to help before our second wind kicks in.” He reached in again to pull out more items, “We also have, some snacks to help, I even found those granola things you like and some fruit so I don’t have to hear about how you’re sacrificing your body for your education. We have some brainless movies we can play for background noise. And last, but not least, bagels and lox for breakfast tomorrow. I remember you mentioning wanting to try it, and why not have something to look forward to.”
Kurt laughed, “So, it’s officially you’re really putting your name in the running for ‘Roommate of the Year’?”
It was Dave’s turn to blush, trying to shrug it off, “Nah, just wanted to give us something help us get through the studying, and therefore finals. Because what’s the point of summer if finals kill us.” He finally fell into the chair shuffling the food between them in an attempt to beat Kurt to the Thai spring rolls. Dave also took the opportunity to change the subject of his roommate abilities, “Speaking of which, have you figured out when you can have dinner with my Dad and Grandpa Murray when we’re back in Lima. You know how they are; wanting to thank you for keeping me alive and well for another year. It’s been two years if I put it past me why can’t they?”
Kurt avoided answering the question as he had every time it had been brought up since the first big fight about their varied perspectives of the situation, “Oh, right, Do you think they would be okay if we do it on that first Sunday, because we’re both being forced to participate in the Hummel-Hudson Friday Night Family Dinner, and Saturday there is going to be a Glee Reunion/Holiday party. You’re should come to that as well, karaoke and booze, and it’ll be the first time for many of the former high school couples will be seeing each other, so it’s bound to entertaining.” Kurt reached for his own share of dinner, “And from the way that ‘Finchel’ and ‘Tike’ left things it wouldn’t surprise me if nine months from now we get a future glee member.”
They shared a laughed, before Dave shook his head, “As fun as that sounds, I’ll have to pass. I’m not sure if you remember or not, but I wasn’t really a part of Glee...”
“Yes you were.” Kurt interjected,
“A forced week does not count.’ Dave quickly countered, “It would just be weird.”
But he knew from the look on Kurt’s face that no matter how many times he would say no he would be at the Glee party.
Sure, enough he found himself following Kurt up the drive to where music was already sounding muffled beats through the walls of Blaine Anderson’s house.
“You know if you would have mentioned that it was at Blaine’s house, I wouldn't have argued so much when you invited me.”
Kurt let out a melodic laugh, “Its fine, David, Blaine and I are friends.”
“Kurt, I live with you, I know you. It’s still a little weird, especially since he hooked up with the other one.”
“Sebastian.” Kurt supplied, conceding as he did so, ‘’And you’re right, it is weird, but Blaine and I were friends first, so whatever the residual weirdness from a death of our relationship two years ago will be fine.”
Kurt felt like there was something else he wanted to add to that, something he wanted to tell Dave, but whatever it was disappeared as the door swung open and he was pulled away by Mercedes to be regaled in the tales of her non-college life of being a backup singer. He tried to focus as she talked about the possibility of her going off on her own, but he kept looking to find Dave in the room, feeling bad to have dragged the larger man her and then ditch him in a room full of people he knew Dave didn’t exactly feel comfortable with out of the guilt that still lingered from high school.
Mercedes followed Kurt’s line of vision, “I’m sorry if I distracting you from something more important--” Her voice got coy, and she smiled as if she was an accomplice to a jewel heist, “Or should I say someone?”
His attention was immediately pulled back to her, “What? What are you talking...”
“Come on Kurt, I know we only get to see each other on Skype, but that doesn't mean I still don’t know you. The two of you have an intense history...and now you’re living together. Finn said Dave was a family dinner last night, and you keep looking over at him.”
There was a laugh caught in Kurt’s throat, “David? Mercedes, we’re just friends. Roommates.
There’s nothing more.” He repeated it to himself, making sure it sounded convincing, he did want Mercedes to get the wrong time.
“Alright, everyone.” The subject was dropped as Rachel stumbled up to the microphone of the karaoke machine. “Time for some karaoke.” There was a statement or two about her successful year of training at NYADA to which most people smiled and rolled their eyes at the same time as she went off on her own personal set before Santana kicked her of the stage for her turn. Everyone, except for Dave who refused, got a turn even Kurt who picked a pointless current pop hit he sang in the shower to wake himself up.
“And last but not least, once again it’s our host for the evening...Blaine Anderson!” Mercedes walked off the area they were using as the makeshift stage
Blaine took the microphone, “I’m actually going to need some help with for the song I want to sing, Sebastian, babe, come one up.” Obediently, the private school graduate appeared smirking.
“Are we singing what I think we’re singing?”
Kurt watched as at Blaine’s nod, Sebastian simply leaned in and kissed him as the music started up. It took him a few seconds to place the song from a movie a few years back.
“...oh reckless abandon
like no one's
watching you...”
It had taken Kurt a while to accept that Blaine and him weren't meant to be, and a little longer to (begrudgingly) admit that Sebastian was actually a better fit, as shown by the example the two of them were putting forth, singing to each other like no one else was in the room. He was just about to ask why he wasn't wondering when something like that would happen to him when his eyes latched on to Dave’s.
The squeal of delight issued from Kurt’s mouth caused several of their fellow subway commuters to stare at them, but neither seemed to care as Kurt looked at the item Dave had just pulled out of his bag.
“How did you find these?”
A smirk and a blush crossed Dave’s face as he shrugged, “Magic.”
“...a moment, a love
a dream, a laugh...”
Kurt leaned back in the dorm room chair looking to where Dave sat on his bed, “Can I ask you something?”
Dave’s focus left the textbook in front of him, “Sure.”
“A year ago, today....when we were...talking about your dream to become a sports agent…”
“Yeah?”
“And we mentioned a partner...what did he look like?”
“Is this another attempt to find out my type so you can set me up on a date?” The teasing voice floated across the room.
“I notice you’re not answering the question.”
Dave sobered and a couple of moments of silence fell over the room, before he finally shook it off, “I don’t know, it wasn't a clear picture...just a thought...’’
“...just stay there
cause I'll be comin’ over...”
….“Dave, they’re adults...its not your fault...sometimes marriages don’t last. Some people change of the course of time, and some don’t and when they’re not on the same page anymore to try and force it just hurts everyone involved.”.....
….. ..... .... ....
….”Kurt, shh, It’s okay.... I've got you...It’s just a little time...if you two are supposed to be together you’ll find your way back to each other.”....
“...a kiss, a cry
our rights, our wrongs (won't stop til it's over)
a moment, a love
a dream, a laugh
a moment, a love
a moment, a love (won't stop to surrender)...”
All the memories seem to flood back to him, and he finally understood what it meant to feel like a light bulb turned on above is head that everyone else but him knew had been there all along. His feet carried him to where his roommate was leaning against the wall. Kurt pushed himself up to the balls of his feet, reaching to bring Dave’s face closer until their lips meet.
It’s a while as Dave responds fervently before they pull about, the former bully’s eyes searching.
“It’s me, isn't?” Kurt asks in the middle of his efforts to catch his breath, “Eight years from now, in your office, your partner and your son? It’s me, isn't it?”
Dave’s nod is barely noticeable, “But Kurt...”
“I was hoping it was.’
“What?” If Dave wasn't surprised before from the turn of events those words do.
“I mean it took me awhile to realize it, but I was hoping it was me the whole time.” He thought back to Valentine ’s Day at Breadstix. “You still love me?”
"Never stopped.” Dave confirmed.
“Well, guess what, David Karofsky? I love you, too.”
Kurt folded his fingers into Dave’s hand as Dave leaned in for another kiss, “Best Glee party ever.”
Just a little heads-up. Gifts for people tagged in this post are the farthest into the queue so they'll start showing up on Thursday morning (for me and GMT+1 time) which is about midnight for the GMT-5 crowd. You have to be liiiiittle bit more patient, but don't worry, they're coming!
