okay so we all know the genre of fanfic within the tenna/reader space where you find or are given tenna and you find out that he's like alive, yeah? usually the reader-insert in these are pretty normal. im not complaining about this at all but i think people are missing the opportunity to have the reader-insert be a film freak. like imagine you have this whole collection of physical media but with nothing to play it on. of COURSE you go out onto deltarune craigslist or whatever, find a crt, bring it home, and boom you just created the easiest set-up for a plot ever. knowing tenna, he'd probably be over-the-moon to be with someone who isnt using a streaming platform, watching the greats "as they were supposed to be seen". plus it means a more consistent flow of attention on him and someone to discuss all these movies with. its a win-win.

sort of relating to the last post i made, i do think that the most likely console that the dreemurrs had when kris and asriel were growing up was a wii. of course this is only a headcanon, but not only does it just feel right considering the implied ages of the fun gang + asriel, but thanks to wii virtual console, it also would've meant that tenna had plenty of inspiration to work with when it came to creating the legend of tenna in chapter 3 (on top of him already romming the shadow mantle game). this is also kinda supported by the fact that deltarune has an in-world equivalent to super smash bros, so it meant that the dreemurs either had melee or brawl, both being titles playable on wii.

ive decided im not done talking about mettatenna so here's another thing i like to think about a lot with them that has most definitely been done with at least 30 morbillion other mettatenna fics and whatnot.

i can't always help but think about deltarune's mettaton much like noel from ride the cyclone. a closeted queer guy with a lot of aspirations that they can't really reach, but aspirations they've thought about very, VERY much. a hooker with a heart of black charcoal. a robotic pop star with an over-the-top design. a queer character who wants more than what they're given and LIVE the ✨fantasy ✨.

i cant help but imagine the brief moments alone that mettaton has living in hometown where he feels safe enough to let loose and embody that ✨fantasy ✨ for however long he can grasp it. he's definitely that subspecies of gayboy that has memorized a lot of choreo in his free time and utterly worships his idols. when that pussy-slay music comes up on his playlist, and he knows hes alone, he can't help but nail everything about it, both song and dance. he's up late at night watching the music video for bad romance for hours just studying each and every frame of that shit until eventually he knows it like the back of his hand.

and yet theres an undeniable insecurity about him that makes him so, so shy to ever truly go there. and probably gender dysphoria but same difference.

of course this all changes with tenna because mettaton's so objectum. he feels so much more comfortable around him without even knowing that tenna is there. and when tenna sees that light inside of him shine through, when a salacious music video pops up and nobody else is there in the house, tenna just can't help but watch and be completely enamored. he has the makings of a showman right THERE, he just needs a little spotlight and confidence to get there.

tenna wishes he could help him. if only the light world weren't so.. light, yknow?

i have a genuine headcanon that whatever tenna showed mettaton on the tv was most definitely something either involving britney spears or lady gaga. i feel more strongly that its some kind of britney spears music video or a rerun of one of her award show performances, but one that sticks out particularly to me is this one specifically

because like any good closeted queer man who does drag on the side, his heart was most definitely touched by this diva at some point in his life. or at the very least by some equivalent pop star within the tobyverse. also britney spears is infamous for having very, VERY salacious music videos, so who else could it have REALLY been

Sick Day

You awake to your alarm buzzing in your ear, you slam the snooze button. You lean upwards but you are taken back by a horrible headache, you feel dizzy and your throat is dry and scratchy. You can’t be sick. There is no way you can be sick. There is a hunt today, you can’t be sick!

Dean walks into your room, “Y/N, Sam and I were- hey are you okay? You look awful” Dean says

"Thanks Dean, every girl wants to hear that" you say, gross you even sound sick.

"You sound bad too, maybe you shouldn’t go" he says walking over to your bed and he feels your forehead with the back of his hand, "Yeah you’re staying home"

"Thanks mom, but you and Sam are not leaving without me" you say, you try to get out of bed but Dean stops you

"No, Sam is leaving without us" he said

"What?"

"Somebody has to take care of you" Dean smiles

"Dean I’ve been taking care of myself since I was sixteen" you said

Dean just looks at you, you can’t resist his emerald eyes. You slam yourself back down on the pillow, but not without groaning. Dean leaves to tell Sam to hunt the ghost without us, and he comes back a half an hour later with cereal, medicine, and a cup of coffee for you.

You smiled wide at what he had done for you, he was the sweetest man you’ve ever met, “Hey” you said, sitting up gently in bed

Dean handed you the cereal and set the rest on the nightstand and takes a seat on the chair next to you.

"No, meds first" you requested.

Dean laughs and hands you the pill bottle and you take a few with the coffee, “Thanks for this Dean” you said, “I never had anyone to take care of me when I was sick”

"You have me now" Dean touches your hand

You try not to jump at his touch, “I do”

"I don’t want you to get hurt" Dean said "You, Sam, Cas, you are my family and I won’t let anything happen to any of you"

You smile, “And I’ll save your ass any day”

Dean laughs and turns on the TV, the rest of the day consists of Star Wars, medication, and the best man you’ll ever know.
