Drifter’s goal is basically to get as many Guardians and resources as he can to run away with him before the Darkness returns and curbstomps humanity again.

hi would you mind explaining what you mean about saladin revealing the truth about iron lords and mara doing wack shit to her people? like is it just that the iron lords got sivafied and mara let the whole curse shenanigan happen?

Saladin didn’t tell anyone how the Iron Lords died until the end of Rise of Iron, after the Guardian defeated SIVA. That’s why Zavala has you help Rasputin in D1 and then tells you not to help him in D2, he didn’t know Rapsutin killed the Iron Lords.

As for Mara, I don’t know the details because - like I said in my earlier post - the lore makes me too angry to finish reading it, but the basics are...

The Reefborn Awoken were immortal, practically gods, then Mara decided she had to “save the future of humanity” and convinced them all to abandon their godhood and become mortal - the people we see now. The Reefborn are also telepathically connected so Mara used that to basically brainwash them all into never questioning her. She doomed them to die and sacrificed them in The Taken King so she could claim Oryx’s Throne World and begin her ascension to godhood.

Basically, she robbed her people of godhood so she alone could become god. She says she hates paracausal powers like Oryx but is trying to become one herself. All so she can “protect humanity”; but that protection also includes becoming the sole power in the system and putting everyone under her control, as well as making any sacrifices (see: sacrificing others) she deems necessary. And she thinks this is all a-okay because she she’s trying to save “the future.”

And now she’s letting her people suffer in an endless war to save their home because she has “another battle to fight.” 

Anyway that’s all I know but if you want more specific details you’ll have to ask someone else, and believe me, they’ll be happy to answer. Dragging Mara Sov is our favorite pastime now.
