Yep! Being able to spot Kiri at a distance is a useless skill that I take great pride in. Funny thing is this doesn’t happen with most other characters

About a year ago, you made a post about how the Starfleet uniforms in the Star Trek reboot made it impossible for women to display their rank and it surprised me so much that I never forgot it. I just wanted to thank you for making that post, because it inspired me to write an essay on the de-professionalization of women in Star Trek for my Educational Diversity course. And it's turning out to be pretty kick ass. :)

The Nu Trek uniforms still piss me off royally, so I’m glad to hear that my post has inspired such an awesome paper topic. :)  I’ve no doubt that your paper will kick all KINDS of ass.

peony: favourite hot beverage is definitely hot chocolate :) I love tea also, but there is just something about that awesome chocolatey smell with candy canes and marshmallows. I just have an emotional response to it :P

I could have sworn that Pike addressed her as “Lieutenant” the first time he saw her. But, he calls her “cadet”, which I guess goes to prove that he couldn’t tell her rank by any indications on her outfit. that sucks. :(

"Cadet" I think is a reference to her still technically being a student.  So within the ranks of Starfleet/the Academy she's earned the rank of Lieutenant, and that's the link she holds in the chain of command aboard the Enterprise, but she hasn't graduated yet so she's still a cadet in training. 

But yeah.  Spock basically introduces her to Pike as "Lieutenant Uhura", but then Pike immediately turns and addresses her as "Cadet" and then tells her to relive "the lieutenant" (a dude) who was manning the comm system.  Given that he'd previously referred to Kirk as "Cadet Kirk"  until Spock vouches for his "sound" logic, at which point he graduated to "Mister Kirk", it looks like the use of "cadet" is meant as a reminder of their field inexperience and his seniority. 

And Uhura, despite being the person who offered the evidence to back Kirk's claim of a Romulan trap, apparently hasn't done enough to "graduate" up to a formal recognition of her rank and responsibilities when being addressed.  :/

A: um gee,,, yes i think one....

A: well i am a huge choir freak so yeah my high school's advanced choir, our acapella all girl's choir, and im choir president!! ehh i also do district and county choir and this year im gonna do modesto symphony chorus. (fun fact i got a callback for supporting roles in les miz but decided against it)

A: r u kiddin me i am the chillest cat around. the only time i came close to punching someone was when a girl made my best friend cry.

A: im includin anime so uh attack on titan, free! and doctor who

A: hell yes i like boring stuff like all the classics and im currently reading les miserables for summer ap english homework

A: i used to play clarinet and guitar but now i only play piano b/c well i think it's the only way to really understand the concepts of theory and stuff. like now i dont even read music, i can just see the chords and ad lib alot. i love to sight read. it gives your brain a good workout and idk it's just alot of fun man i am boring. oh yeah and i sing alot; choir, musical theatre, and classical solos in italian, german and this year i'll start french.

A: probably my dad phones scare me

A: that's a hard one.... i guess my best friend chris b/c he helped me through my therapy and eating disorder and he's the only person i've ever talked about sex and masturbating with and we both used to like each other (at different times) and like he just listens so well but then we are also like 8 year olds w/ each other like "wow u fuckin asshole go suck a dick"
