I’ve made an appointment for Odie on Saturday at 1PM PDT with our acupuncture vet. This will be Odie’s last day on this physical plane and until then I plan to keep him comfortable and happy. And right now he’s happy sleeping. Which is pretty amazing since when he came to me and for years after Odie had sleep terrors every time he slept, waking up spinning in full bark, defense attack mode. Peaceful sleep for Odie is magical. I believe his last acupuncture appointment opened up this opportunity for him. Releasing the blocks that prevented him from truly creating on the astral plane. My heart is full that he gets to make this decision with me when it’s time instead of where he was 8 years ago being pulled from the pound and more than likely on death row. He told me last weekend 8/17 would be the day and I didn’t (want to) believe him. He assured me I would know on Wednesday. I went to bed Tuesday night restless and wholly unsure of anything. When I woke up yesterday morning I did know. I felt that things made sense. I can’t describe what exactly made sense but I felt I shared the peace Odie is experiencing. I am so sad and slowly letting go of trying to fix anything. Healing is not fixing. Healing is letting go of what you think should be and opening to what is true. There will be a lot of cuddling and also giving Odie time to work on his next step as I work on mine. This happens so much in sleep, so letting him have that time and space is so special. My job now is to fall in love with him more every day so there won’t be a moment that gets away from us.
