We're all bitches!
So, I play for a local netball team. And when I say local I mean I have to drive 35+ kms into town to play. We're finished with the completion season (we made it to the grand finale but didn't get the W 😔) and have started the social season. We're a small club so we only had enough people for 1 team this year but to play in the social season we needed 2 teams or the rounds would be uneven. So we scrounged up some players. Friends of other players, randoms from facebook groups that were interested in playing. We had our 2 teams. As we've gone through the social season some players have dropped off. Naturally. It happens every year. Some people just can't be bothered. And others don't realise beforehand just how much contact is in this lovely non-contact sport. For instance; since I've been playing I've had a fractured tibia in my right leg, two sprained fingers in my right hand and more often than not been knocked to the ground on the awesome bitumen courts and gotten gravel rash on elbows, knees and hands. The thing that makes me absolutely hate netball sometimes though is the constant bitchiness! It's the worst. What can you really expect from a bunch of women/girls being competitive with each other. We, as women, have this feral need to be better than other women and it turns us into, sometimes, downright disgusting people. Bitching each other out constantly. Players on your team. The umpires. It's terrible. It doesn't stop at the finale whistle though and that's the problem. Its a competition, people are going to be competitive. When that intensifies off the court, that's a problem. Degrading a person for decisions that were made on court or umpiring calls that you don't agree with is not okay. Especially when that person has never umpired or played before is ridiculous. People make mistakes. Unless you're Captain Perfect (which no one is) you don't have the right to judge anyone. Calling someone an “angry, immature slut” because of an umpiring call is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. STOP THE BULLSHIT! And if you still feel the need to criticise someone at least give them a little bit of respect and do it to their face. Don't talk shit behind someone's back, it always gets back to them!
