'Children of Noctua' -
Costumes I designed for Distrikt 5, Noctua characters at Boomtown festival 2018. Distrikt 5 is produced by Third Mind Productions.
Isabella Barter and I constructed the costumes together. We both performed the characters of balcony dancers at the festival.
The costumes were constructed from upcycled bedsheets making them environmentally friendly. This fitted very well with the theme of the 'Last Tree' and dystopian future caused by human made, environmental destruction, where all is forgotten. Only the Children of Noctua, priests and priestesses of Noctua and preachers, a cultish group, worshipping the last tree, remained on earth. Shapes and poses are the symbology and signs of Noctua.
Copper wire is spot welded and bend and manipulated to create the jewellery. Bedsheets are torn into long strips, twisted, tied and hand woven to create the main body of the dresses. The long strips are left raw to form the skirt/tunic parts of dresses. Making of the dresses by hand took us both approx.. 1, full week.
