five word prompts: “ anyone could tell from here ” - @imphansol
“ WELL, THERE ISN’T MUCH I CAN DO ABOUT YOUR VIEWING EXPERIENCE. EXCEPT BURN YOUR EYES, ” hyeju joked. it was a rare sight to see hyeju practicing her powers in public. most of the time, she went off campus and found some abandoned and locked off warehouse, ( because melting locks at this point was more of a pastime than an actual measure of her competence ), to hone her abilities. after her great grandmother dying, there hadn’t been anyone who she could learn more from. she was definitely no master, but she was at least proficient in the art of acid. but somehow, frat boy found her. it wasn’t his fault, she kept choosing pretty open places even if they were abandoned and the obvious puddles of acid on the ground was an indicator that someone was there. “ completely flare material, right? ” she asked with a smirk. earlier, she was trying to test the waters of a defense system with acid, but it seemed almost impossible. acid was used for attacks and not for protection. not ideal for her. no matter how hard she tried to create a formula, it never worked. why couldn’t she just have acid immunity and acid detection? at least then she could stay with the flares.
her greatest achievement of the day was creating a wave of yellow acid and watching it evaporate as though it never appeared. almost impossible with science she knew, but superpowers were nothing that made logical sense. but it was still flawed, there was still subtle evidence. it tinged grass blades and left some kind of scarring on the ground she was on. it was always going to be impossible to leave no trace of her powers. any crime or activity she did would lead back to her. and if that was the case, then she could never use her powers for anything other than in battles. a thing she also didn’t partake in.
but looking at the boy who saw her, she asked, “ now, how should i fail my evaluation for the month? ” she didn’t want to move out of flares. she needed to stay in the flares no matter what. the playing field for the gleams was something she didn’t need to see.
