Mituna took a bite of his toast that dripped honey. I frowned as more of the sweet, golden drops slowly dripped onto the clean marble counter. I took a napkin that was sitting near him and wiped away the mess and quickly went to get a plate before more honey was on the clean counter top. “Hey, KK?” Mituna licked his fingers and took a bite of his food. “Do you think mini Cake Cake is okay?”
I put a plate under Mituna’s hands just as honey began to pool in it. “It’s ‘KK’, Mituna. The first letter in kite and Karkat. Say it with me. Kay,” Mituna took his pinkie out of his mouth. “Cake,” he replied. I sighed. “Cake does not begin with a K, Mituna. It begins with a C.” Teaching and correcting Mituna had become a habit for me now; sometimes the boy refused to acknowledge some things, though, educational or not. Like how cake began with a C, or his shirt was on backwards or the fact that we dated once upon a time but we broke up because we both realized that the relationship wasn’t working out that well and we had suddenly grown fond of each other’s little brothers. Most of the time, though, Mituna acted like he was stupid just so that other kids wouldn’t pick on him at school. (He still gets bullied and picked on and the only reason why we could eat in peace nowadays is because of Cronus’ appearance. I think the reason why he sits at our table and says that he’s protecting us is because he has a thing for me.) The kid was a genius in his own way, though. Even if what he said was odd or a opinion of his didn’t make much sense, it made much sense to Mituna. He was wise in his own way.
“Answer the question, KK,” Mituna demanded. I sighed. “I think Karkat is fine. Why do you ask?” Mituna blinked at me through his bangs. He really needed a haircut, but he claims that he likes it the way it is. “I dunno. He—his face, it always turns red. Is he sick?” I chuckled. Is my little brother in love? With who, I wonder? “What is it?” Mituna asked. I shook my head, but grinned. “Nothing,” I replied. I think I might have to go have the Talk with him after dinner. Maybe he is in love?
