Starbucks
This week was swept by a whirlwind:
a traumatic experience, failures never experienced before, and a life changing talk.
I walked through the market, crossed the overhead bridge took 16 to siglap’s Starbucks. It was crowded. I crossed the traffic light. Waited 20mins for another bus 16 to take me to the library to study. All in all I travelled for an hour. Aimlessly.
While waiting, I saw. The money, the cars, the drinks, the people. As for the guy I have been texting who spends $30-50 a meal, buys only branded clothes, drinks only Starbucks coffee, has bags that are way above school standards. We are worlds apart. I lead my own life wearing hand-me-downs albeit having a rich late-granddad who has set a side tens of thousands to fund my education. I live in a 3.5room HDB flat, albeit owning two timberland school bags, a Hermes watch, two coach wallets, and a prada computer bag (all of which are bought within my means).
Nevertheless, we have different belief systems, different ways of using our money and different characters (I’m introvert and you are and extrovert). We are like parallel lines, we own the same things but we lead different lives, never crossing each other’s path.
Goodbye Ronn, I don’t think we will ever meet. And even if we do, it’d be a brief moment, with cordial smiles exchanged.
