A FEINT WITHIN A FEINT WITHIN A FEINT...
So I recently got a message from @lynnblacklist asking this question in regards to my “Red Is An Imposter” theory:
Could it be possible that OUR Red, the one we as an audience are familiar with, is the ACTUAL original Raymond Reddington and that Lizzie’s father stole HIS identity? Basically, a flip on my idea that OUR Red took the identity of Lizzie’s father after she shot and killed him.
And so after thinking about it, I can’t see why not?
Correct me if I’m wrong @lynnblacklist, but what you’re basically saying is, OUR Red is the original Raymond Reddington, who had a wife and child. He was a rising star in the Navy and was being groomed for Admiral... etc.
Under unknown circumstances, without a definitive timeline, and for unknown reasons, Lizzie’s father took not only OUR Red’s identity, but the identity of his daughter as well, thus becoming Raymond Reddington and Masha becoming “Elizabeth.” (This means that OUR Red’s daughter’s name was Elizabeth, just like I state in my imposter theory post).
At some point, OUR Red’s wife and daughter were killed on Christmas Eve, just like he told Madeline Pratt. Could ‘they’ have killed OUR Red’s family to erase all evidence that another wife and daughter ever lived, thus making Masha the only ‘Elizabeth’ that now exists?
Remember, Lizzie’s father INSISTS on calling her “Elizabeth” in the fire flashbacks when Katerina comes for her and the Fulcrum. And Katerina yells to Lizzie’s father (who is NOT Red) in the hallway while they’re fighting, “Raymond no!”
Is it possible that the man Katerina had an affair with wasn’t Raymond Reddington at all, but was just using that name as a cover?
IF this is all true, and Lizzie’s father stole OUR Red’s real identity, he basically DESTROYED it. He stole the Fulcrum, had an affair with a KGB agent, had an illegitimate child (while cheating on his wife Carla), and became a national traitor.
Now, even if OUR Red could somehow manage to get his identity back, there’s nothing left to salvage of it.
Lizzie even surmises in 3.2:
I found it weird that she brought that up THEN of all times, when it had nothing to do with the conversation they were having at the time.
And Red told Lizzie in the Pilot:
I think ‘they’ may have even attempted to kill OUR Red as well in order to take his identity.
In “The Courier,” Red states that he died once in Marrakesh:
He tells the SAME STORY again in “Alexander Kirk, The Conclusion,”:
It always struck me as important that TPTB tell this same story twice from Red, like it’s important that we pick up on it. Maybe this is why...
Maybe ‘they’ THOUGHT they killed OUR Red in Marrakesh, while at the same time killing his wife and daughter, Elizabeth, back in the states. Except Red survived the attack in Marrakesh, and came home just in time for Christmas. He was so excited to be alive and back home, that he ran out of gas, and then came home to a “house of blood.”
His attackers have, to the best of THEIR knowledge, now wiped out the original Reddington family, allowing Lizzie’s father and herself to take over the role of ‘Raymond’ and ‘Elizabeth.’
But little do they know, that Red survived...
OUR Red then goes undercover to try to find out who is impersonating him and who killed his family, until everything comes to a head the night of the fire. Lizzie’s dad dies, and Red finally manages to get his own identity back, which is now in complete shambles. So he only has one course of action to follow - BECOME the very criminal Lizzie’s father inadvertently made him when he stole his identity in order to continue the cause.
Like Red tells Ressler in regards to him supposedly becoming a traitor to the US:
Or more importantly, who someone MADE us.
Is this what you’re getting at @lynnblacklist? I don’t want to put words in your mouth, but this is what it sounded like you were saying.
If so, off the top of my head, I can’t see any reason why this couldn’t be correct as well. It would still mean that either OUR Red or Lizzie’s father stole the other’s identity, and that Lizzie is still not OUR Red’s daughter.
And one last piece of “evidence” to back up this idea:
Liz tells Red in “Berlin, Part I” that she needs Red to get answers about her past. And Red replies back that he needs her for the same reasons...
And brought to my attention by @elizared is this famous scene from “Wujing”:
At THIS question, Red visibly winces... ^^^
GREAT THINKING @elizared!!!
Also, IF this proves true, could that mean Red will ultimately use Lizzie to ge revenge on her parents?

Anyone have any thoughts?
