Did they forget to color in the back of Iruka’s shoes? (Lang says some have open heel sandals).

I know I love running around in flipflops in the snow, but open heel open toes sounds really impractical for ninjas. Like? What happens if you get a rock stuck in them? Or someone steps on your foot? OR you stub your toes? Or something scrapes your heel?
