I used to wonder why I loved Impressionist paintings so much until one day my old best friend said, “It’s because they look a lot how you describe the dreams you had as a child.” When she said that it all made sense. I used to have (and occasionally still do have) very bright and vivid dreams. They were full of color and for the most part looked like the real world, just not quite. Like Impressionist art, each moment was its own unique moment in time.
“For an Impressionist to paint from nature is not to paint the subject, but to realize sensations.” —Paul Cezanne
“Impressionism means taking inspiration directly from nature, trusting your senses rather than what you think you know.” —Michael McClure
