If you ever find yourself lost in an improv scene wondering “What is this about?” Do not invent more - invest more.
Improv Wisdom: What Creates Natural Laughter?
“It takes so little to create the context for human play. First, we must be in the same room physically so that we can touch each other. It is useful to have a few rules to follow (or break) and a willingness to make mistakes together. Having a guide or teacher helps, but isn’t necessary. What creates natural laughter? The unexpected, the spontaneous, giving without thought of return, falling down and getting up, being playful, being silly—these things can bring joy. Create a space where there are no wrong answers. Hang out there. Invite some friends. Improvise. Try this: Make up the words to a song right now and sing it. You can invent the tune or go ahead and use a melody that you already know—just add new words. Sing about your day. Now.” Patricia Ryan Madson. “Improv Wisdom: Don't Prepare, Just Show Up" Crown Publishing Group, 2005. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1400081882/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1429173920&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SY200_QL40&keywords=improv+wisdom

Wise words from the always hilarious Emma Stone.
I truly enjoy the teamwork that improv needs...I genuinely get a thrill when I can set a teammate up for a joke, or when I get exactly what they were going for. It really is magic when you get on the same page.

You should look at every contribution that your scene partner makes to the scene as a gift.
