As a leading self-important tuber in the world of roots, Plunger have secretly been asked to nominate candidates for the UK Beets Federation annual awards.
Much as we appreciate the hard work and dedication of the UKBF (and the inestimable honour confirmed on the awards simply by our being asked) our lofty industry status means that we have been privileged to witness the majesty and panache of international roots like the mighty American Rutabaga or the stylish Swiss Chard.
Therefore we couldn’t in all honest humility (something for which we are renowned) grant our much sought-after blessing on any lowly British mangelwurzel as they simply fail meet those high standards.
This is in no way connected to the fact that we can’t nominate our own homegrown sugar beet for an award, honest. No, really.
