My grievances with IMVU andro fashion.
IMVU only has two avatar types: men and women. i will be using those terms, as much as it will pain me at times.
andro fashion, for those unfamiliar, is a category of clothing that is androgynous. this can be seen in how the clothes are fitted (giving men avis hips and women avis flat chests) or in the style of dress itself. I don't shop in the men section so i won't speak much about it. all i'll say is that the fashion, especially hair and dresses, are really dated and i wish more creators would pay attention to men's wear in general. so many creators are afraid or un-creative when it comes to men's fashion, but i digress.
i wish there were more to choose from with women's andro fashion. the style types either fit uwu kawaii yaoi anime #softboy, emo, BDSM gear, or dated LGBT pride clothes. there's stem fashion (more tomboyish streetwear) as well, which is helpful, but i want my "female" avatar to confuse people, or at least pass as a man avatar; the selection in this game is not helping me with this absurdly stupid goal, especially in the trans unfriendly hellworld that is IMVU, both the game itself and the users.
i wish there was more goth fashion. specifically 80's and romantic goth fashion. but outside of my own personal taste, i wish for andro tank tops, layerable vests, suits, band tees, and shirts that aren't so tight fitting and make the waist so small and noticable. i wish there were more clothes that "hide" the arms and make them look bigger with a baggier fit. a jacket would help, but most don't.
there are no andro jackets or coats. i would LOVE a jacket that goes flat on the chest, i'm telling you! if the jacket or coat isn't meant to be worn over the shoulder or sliding down the arms, the jacket/coat leaves a space in front of the chest for where breasts should be. they all do this. necklaces do this as well, whether they're short or long, they bear a hump. i wish more creators would take notice of this and make jackets and necklaces that fit with an andro figure.
the selection for andro pants is... small. i don't want to see my hips or buttocks in pants. as picky as this sounds, i don't want people to be able to tell that i'm a female avatar and that hasn't helped me "pass". there are so many baggy pants, but none that help me look androgynous or masculine enough. there should be andro belts that are fitted for the few andro pants there are as well.
andro shoes are small. really tiny. for some reason, scalers don't help, which is probably a me thing. but i wish i didn't have to rely on scalers and that they at least didn't make my feet smaller than before. i personally wish that there were more loafers, winklepickers, and creepers, but again that's just me.
EDIT: it has come to my attention that there are unisex items in the game. this means that there are some male items that are for male avis that a female can wear while keeping the same proportions of the male avi. it is far from perfect in execution, but the fact that it exists is great. it is also rare. on top of its rarity, i'm having trouble finding these items in the shop, even on IMVU Classic, because some items are only unisex in name.
skins are very limited when it comes to skin tones. why? actually, this isn't even an andro only problem. every single creator who makes fun makeup looks doesn't make fun makeup looks for deeper tones, but it is so noticeable for andro skins. there's also a small amount of andro skins with no makeup
andro hairstyles also don't have black hairstyles. it is rare that i see black hairstyles in pastel colors in this game that aren't dated. this isn't limited to andro creators, i just wish there were more masculine black hairstyles. our only option can't be IDB's shop. longer hairstyles in IMVU also hover over the chest. i wish andro creators made longer hairstyles that didn't do that.
andro creators in the space that have been quite helpful are sladez, vyru, apathy, roy, prince cyri, and hardblush.
