I know that you said it didn’t have to affect preexisting things, but Katherine really actually dislikes LA and if he ever would suggest he wanted to move to London, she’d wholeheartedly support that.  Plus, when she’s ready to return to work, it’ll be much easier in London, where she has connections in the news industry in spades, than in LA.  She’d be more than happy about it, since, when it comes to large cities, London and Paris are the only two she’d really consider living in long term.  So, while, yes, she’d move for him, she’d have more reasons than him, so he wouldn’t have to feel like it was only for him, if that’s a thing he wouldn’t like.

Dorian was in and out of a variety of prestigious private schools throughout his childhood; his generally bad attitude and tendency to fight back against bullies and oppressors saw him kicked out or firmly asked to leave every one of them until, finally, his parents put him in a very strict religious school when he was 17. He got away from there in under 3 months, and luckily, was found by Gereon Alexius, a friend of the family, before he could get himself into too much trouble. 

But also luckily, Gereon’s wife Livia herself ran a very small, selective sort of private school and Dorian was invited to join. He flourished there, at last, under the watchful eye and helping hand of his mentor and new father-figure; and with the support of Felix, who also studied there before heading off to MIT (Minrathous Institute of Technology, ha?) for advanced mathematical studies.

Dorian particularly excelled in literature and language studies, history, and natural sciences. Mathematics gave him some trouble, but Felix helped greatly. The physical sciences were also less of interest to Dorian, and something he devoted himself to half-heartedly at best.
