Do you like the Gorillaz? I saw the new animated short they made! Very beautiful ✨
I used to be a huge fan of Gorillaz songs as a kid, but decided to distance myself from these projects and their creator, Damon Albarn. It’s deeply disappointing to see he’s being completely ignorant about what’s happening here and continues to actively support r*ssia in different ways.
He's been ignoring the context of r*ssia’s actions, including things like including things like adding r*ssian voiceovers as a 'silly joke' in his latest songs (the track 'Silent Running' from The Cracker Island album contains a voice message in r*ssian)
In the current context, using the language of the aggressor as a 'cool aesthetic' is incredibly tone-deaf and hurtful.
and even were announced as headliners for the 'Park Live' festival, which is directly sponsored and branded by Yandex — a r*s tech giant that is deeply integrated with the r*s government and its propaganda machine. Even if the festival takes place in Almaty, supporting a Yandex-backed event means supporting the r*s economy.
The 'Both Sides' Rhetoric is incredibly pissing me off, Damon Albarn has stated in interviews that he 'would go to r*ssia if asked' . His stance, as seen in recent interviews, boils down to a naive 'it's not about politics, it's about culture' or 'ahhhh everyone should just hold hands and be friends.' This kind of 'cosmopolitan' ignorance is incredibly harmful. This is a classic example of toxic pacifism. You cannot 'just hold hands' when one side is actively committing genocide and war crimes.
By continuing to engage with r*ssia, these artists are helping to normalize a terrorist state. People like him refuse to see that culture cannot be separated from the blood being shed, and by performing for or collaborating with r*ssian entities, they are indirectly funding the very missiles and drones that target us, every. fucking. day.
I will not support an artists who chooses to ignore reality and whitewash the actions of an aggressor for the sake of 'cultural unity' that doesn't exist, and ignore the blood on the hands of those they are so willing to perform for.
