it always comes and goes like the ebbing and flowing of each tide, the moon and sun seemingly at never-ending odds with one another as the sun became eclipsed and the moon reigned the world. just for a while. but in that time, the shade of darkness washed across each face which angled skyward, every building’s glimmer dulled suddenly and even the water lost its tropical, blissful twinkle.
was he one to feel haunted by the moon’s presence, even as he was the shining sun himself? no, not at all. he did not fear darkness, only embracing it each time it came. for with each arrival, there came fresh faces; starved of knowledge, grasping the bare minimum with which each were dealt. like lost patients upon a scattered hospital ward. he enjoyed watching them, as a butcher might enjoy the frock of new lambs as they take their first wobbly sprints.
but for once, he was not alone upon the edge of the world; stood high above the rest and that much closer to the moon itself. beneath its amber ring, there stood another. tall, alone, them too captivated by the scene both below and above. a new arrival, he supposed, but he could never be certain prior to a conversation. he was quite some way away, an entire rooftop over, but a simple and thoughtless teleport to the stranger’s side was nothing if not simple nature. and so he did, silently disappearing from the neighbouring rooftop to stand beside the stranger, his gaze matching their’s to lift to the heavens.
“ you’d think it was meant to be prophetical. “ he spoke, his voice slow but tinted with his usual intrigue. “ how the sun earns its shadow so suddenly like that. what was once an amusing trick is nothing more than a dull spectacle. you will grow used to its coming. “ he made a noise, a small hum following his prediction. “ but gazing into that abyssal pool of darkness serves as a comfort, does it not? there is always something so tempting about the depth of the moon’s darkest side. “ ╱ ╱ — @inanum ☼ ”
