a starter : inappropriate

people tended to place too much value on things. the end for all things is inevitable in different ways. everything expires and nothing stays. for now, jinah survives. someone else, however, doesn’t. 

what a shame – the car was nice.

now it’s a wreck of bodies at the intersection. traffic piles up behind the cordoned area. gaggles of gossips gather around the area, right until where they’re allowed, and still from this safe distance they can see the bodies strewn about, discarded, burnt ragdolls from an upside-down car. there isn’t much that’s left by it in terms of form, or general usefulness. she made sure of that. jinah wears black like she’s constantly in mourning, but this is yet just another graceful success. there wasn’t anyone else injured, and they crashed exactly where she calculated they would be.

it was the look on the father’s face that broke her. or, at least, the tongue lolling out of it. it cracks the act and implants itself as a smile that’s gone too soon, but not gone soon enough.

“sorry,” she says, swiping her finger on a stray tear from the corner of her eye. “no, i – i was trying not to cry. tragic, isn’t it? i’m sorry we had to see this – i knew you wanted to relax today, but... to see them like that when we just met them earlier... i’m sorry this is such a shitty café date.”

Boundaries

I think I'm mostly good at setting limits but sometimes I'm too curious about where others may take things if I let them. 

For example, at the hardware store the other day the clerk asked my name and I tell him it is Nikki. He starts to discuss the Prince song "Darling Nikki" which, I'm sure you know, is very explicit about "Nikki" being a sex fiend. He says, "I know I can say this to you." 

Now, I did have the thought: "WTF does he think he can say this to me? I'm a lady and a customer and he should NOT feel like its okay to infer I'm a sex freak and/or discuss it with me." 

But I also have the thought; "This is so exciting! It is so inappropriate! Where is it going to go? It will be a great story." 

And this second thought (my shrink points out) is where I get into trouble (see: curiosity and cats). He strongly suggests this is not a harmless activity and I see his point. 

What does this have to do with the Year of the Body? I think that setting better boundaries and not going into this area of unsafe interactions may help me feel more secure. Feeling more secure should help me feel okay without a safety blanket (more on that in another post). 

Also - part of the reason I let this stuff go is because I'm positive that I'm strong enough to handle wherever it lands. And I am, but that does not mean its pleasant or something I want to experience. 

Just because the cat wonders what's up the tree and is sure she can get down does not mean he should climb it. 

Just because you can take something does not mean you have to, or should. You are allowed to say no because it is not best for you or you don't want to.
