Okay so my school decided to play the "hush" game the day before valentines day. It goes like this: each girl playing gets one paper heart. It's their only one. They can't get it back. The only way to keep the heart is to not TALK to a boy. The boy's objective is to collect as many HEARTS as possible by getting girls to SPEAK to them. They are encouraged to pester and PRESSURE the girls into speaking. At the end of the day, the boy with the most hearts is claimed the "king of hearts" Hmmmm ANY PARALLEL HERE? I mean talk about one of the biggest double standards in society: sexuality in men vs. women. And our school decides to turn it into a game for high schoolers to play. Boys are celebrated for taking as many "hearts" as possible and girls get no reward for keeping their heart. The girls are only participating to have their heart stolen, they are set up to lose the whole time. As a feminist, I am outraged.
