A&B Tax Service LLC will review the last three years of taxes both federal and state as well as any years prior to the last three years that have not been paid yet for errors and omissions. We will be looking for legitimate changes that can reduce your tax due or result in refunds you were entitled to but didn’t get. Additionally our team will also look for deductions that the IRS would disallow and advise of anything the IRS would deem as fraudulent. If you can’t locate your copy of the federal you should be able to get a tax return transcript from the IRS if it is for the last three years. You would then sanitize your return before providing it for review. When we say sanitize you return we mean wipe out or mark out all SSNs on the return and or transcript. We do not need your SSNs at this time to determine if any errors have been made. We would need to get your, spouse, and dependents date of births to verify it is accurate.
Why do we need IRS Transcripts?
The transcripts that we are requesting are the only way of knowing what the IRS has on their records concerning the tax years we will review. In order to make sure that the IRS hasn’t made an error themselves or to determine if you have made some errors based upon IRS information is to review the transcripts.
You would need to retrieve the following transcripts from the IRS:
Tax Return Transcript – Only if you can’t find a copy of your return
Wage & Income Transcript – If this involves a joint return both taxpayer and spouse need these
Account Transcripts – You need to get an account transcript for the last three years that have been filed and any other year that the IRS says you still owe
There are three ways to retrieve these transcripts. You can call the IRS at – 1-800-908-9946, this is a menu driven number, you will not talk to anyone, just follow the prompts. This number doesn’t always work properly but it is the easiest way to get all of these. You can also call the IRS at 1-800-829-7650, this is a collection number. You will need to let all the prompts be given then wait for a representative to pick up. A warning, be able to wait for an extended period of time. The wait could exceed 30 minutes and it is best to call before 10:00 AM to minimize your wait. When you live in a city or near a city that has a local IRS office, you can always visit the office and request this information and they should be able to print it all while you are there.
Once you have all the needed documents you need to complete the general information questionnaire and get the documents and questionnaire to us using one of the following ways:
