what do you think would the queen members' and the borhap boys' hogwarts houses be?
Hey! I got this message last week and I was bouncing off my seat to get to it! Finals were on the way, and so now I can finally get to it. As a harry potter fan I thought long and hard about the four of them and their houses, but I know many of you probably have different opinions, and I would love to hear them! (The BoRhap boys are proving to be a bit harder to sort because we don’t know that much about their personalities in depth, but I’m going to get back to you on that!)
My first instinct is to say, without a doubt, Brian would be a Ravenclaw. He has “wit beyond measure” tattooed over his forehead, not only in his pursuit of academic knowledge but also because of a passion towards a general understanding, not just of the cosmos, but of those particular things that are close to his heart. Creativity and Originality are also two of the house’s traits, and that is the other side of the coin to his more pragmatic side; this is, after all, a man who built his own guitar, worked on a unique “Brian May sound” and penned some of the most distinct Queen songs. This is also the house of Luna Lovegood, so it fits for the “We Was Glam” man who still rocks flashy costumes and looked great in makeup.
(I could also see him in Hufflepuff for his loyalty, his warm heart and his love of animals - I mean, he would be extremely jealous that Hufflepuffs get a badger as their crest)
Roger is a hard one. I was going back and forth between sorting him into Gryffindor or Hufflepuff, and I could even work the case for the other two (his shady remarks in interviews get him Slytherin points and his ability to get through science education and music earn him some Ravenclaw nods). At the end of the day, I thought about the Roger outside the “slut roger/locked himself in a cupboard to get his way Roger”, and I settled into Hufflepuff for Rog. This is a man who was on TV weeks after his friend died just to defend his honor, this is someone who still fights for his legacy to be remembered, who gets teary when he talks about Fred. He stole a statue of him and has it in his backyard, I don’t think it gets any more protective than that. One of the main misconceptions is when we are told that Helga Hufflepuff “took the rest of them and treated them the same”, and we get to label Hufflepuff as the “non-traits-House” - on the contrary, I think it means that is the spirit of the house to see no difference among people and to welcome them with their flaws and good aspects. There are stories about Roger offering multiple friends a place to crash or a job and he welcomed Freddie with open arms to the band. He is also extremely hardworking and dedicated - still is to this day- and it’s also funny how Hufflepuffs get taken for granted, kind of like his place in the band usually is by critics or journalists who looked down on drums or didn’t even know he sang, and tend to label him as just the pretty blonde.
(I could 100% sort him into Gryffindor too. Loyalty often overlaps with chivalry, and he was fearless in defending Freddie and often speaking up his mind. Not to go there, but he is the guy who locked himself up in a cupboard to get his way and threw some TVs out the window. He is smart, but sometimes can do dumbass things, like selling Freddie’s jacket or throw a fit over three seventh of sugar. He is courageous and loves to stand out too)
John was another given to me. Deaky is a Slytherin, hands down. First of all, let me say that Slytherin is one of my favorite houses. I don’t get that “all evil lays in Slytherin”, because I see so many good traits in the house. Who says “ambitious” has to have a negative connotation? Being ambitious is being driven, working towards one goal, being driven to overcome all obstacles. Remember that story about John sneaking out of recording sessions to sit for his exams? And graduating with honors while being in the band? Or learning how to play double bass for ’39 in a couple of days after Brain made a joke about it? I mean, you also get a bit of that pettiness that’s also part of Slytherin, but that is core ambition. You know what else is ambition? Working towards what you want and opting out when it not longer motivates you, which also links with self-preservation. Slytherins are also known to hold close friendships and stick up for their own, which I feel in a way is what John did about Freddie. He is also known to be devastating with a line and sarcastic. He has determination and is resourceful - he brought a new sound to Queen and created his own amp.
(I could see John as a Hufflepuff too or a Ravenclaw. The man has intelligence to spare, and has his gentler side as well. What I said about his friendship with Freddie, his fondness for his friends and his love of his family life could get him in Hufflepuff too. John is a puzzle, but that for me gets him into the most enigmatic house of all)
And Freddie… I can’t see Freddie in any house but Gryffindor. Yes, I’m probably biased because I’m judging him on the various fights he had to fight and how fearless he was. How he fought to be remembered in his own terms, to handle his struggles in the way that he chose to, how he buckled down and fought to the end, made music to the end, enjoyed life in the way that he liked, and screw what anybody said. He is the embodiment of a Queen, a King, but also a Lion. Protective of his pack, brave and a leader. He fought for his friends, had strength to spare and more nerve than anybody else. He wanted to be a star, a legend, and he put his will into it and got it. He was protective of others, took many under his wing and valued his connections. He broke stereotypes, had vision and was a bit stubborn as well, willing to fight to get his way. I cannot think of a better word to describe him other than courageous and daring.
(for those many traits, I could also see him in Slytherin - he was ambitious, driven and groundbreaking. I find it that more often than not, Gryffindor and Slytherin traits overlap, which is kind of ironic when you think of all the misconceptions regarding those two houses and their so call rivalry)
I hope I made sense, and thank you thank you for sending this, I loved this question! I will get back to you on the BoRhap Boys, but in the meantime I couldn’t resist putting together a little moldboard for this Hogwarts Houses + Queen rambling.
