the face of a man who's about to attempt to climb a goliath
part 2
really good panel. a very blunt way to demonstrate imperial power in foreign nations as a catalyst of civil war
critiques about squid game 2 & 3 (and what I might change or whatever) (spoilers)
everything in season 1 stays the same. chef's kiss. peak cinema. everything was amazing
something about gi-hun using his money to try and defeat the squid game people doesn't make sense to me. so you have about $32 million USD and you're gonna go take out this sick show for the world's richest most elite people of all time ever? the jeff bezos and kim jong-uns and elon musks and jeffrey epsteins of this world? people who can spend a million dollars without even blinking, without even feeling it leave their pockets? and if that's the route you're gonna have gi-hun try to go down, at least ACKNOWLEDGE that that's the most idiotic thing he could possibly do ever. don't act like it's badass bc it ain't badass?? man stands Zero Chance?? especially when gi-hun (s1 gi-hun specifically bc I feel like they change him for s2 and 3) is a very pathetic wet cat of a man. he has a soft heart and a spine made of jello. he breaks under pressure, he cares about people, idk the idea of him putting other people in harm's way to try and find these insane freak people who love to torture others for their entertainment doesn't sit right with me. so to begin with, I would NOT do that. I don't think he'd touch the money he won for a while, I kinda think he'd kind of act like how he acted at the end of season 1 and just keep living how he was living before the games and that just. be the end of it. probably squander all the money away at some point bc that's usually what happens to lottery winners; they don't know what to do with All That Money so they just keep doing the same thing they were doing before and lose it all and end up in a worse place. i'd probably have something else happen to him tho before that happens; maybe jun-ho finds him and drags him back into squid game shenanigans so he can find in-ho. idk bruv i just work here
really just in general I felt like all of s2 and 3 were just. really unrealistic. it felt gi-hun had way too much plot armor and he was much too "badass" and I feel like he changed completely like- my man killed dae-ho??? WHY?????
speaking of killing dae-ho, that did NOT make sense at aLL for gi-hun to blame him so much to the point where he LITERALLY KILLED HIM. dae-ho was such a softie baby boy and he made me so sad like, it made sense that he was scared. it literally WAS gi-hun's fault bc that was an ASS plan (so you have ten guns and you're gonna go against THE ENTIRE FUCKING SQUID GAME ARMY???? ARE YOU DENSE???????) and u take it out on a boy who was scared??? AND THEN GO AND SACRIFICE YOURSELF FOR SOME RANDOM ASS BABY???? like be consistent. I really feel like gi-hun, in his normal state, would've understood why dae-ho couldn't follow through with delivering the magazines. if you wanted to write a story where gi-hun's character breaks so fundamentally that he's willing to kill someone, be consistent and keep him broken. don't have him pull something like that and then come around and be like ":( jun-hee :( her baby :( omg humanity..." NO dae-ho was JUST AS IMPORTANT as they are DUMBASS ugh anyway it makes me so mad. so very mad. like thematically it DOESN'T WORK AT ALL. i wouldn't even be mad if they had just chosen to BE CONSISTENT !!!!!!! dae-ho can die it just has to MAKE SENSE!!!!!!!! DAMN
speaking of the baby, would NOT include the baby. who in their right mind greenlit this. there are a MILLION OTHER WAY BETTER WAYS to portray gi-hun sacrificing himself because he cares about people. it felt so ?? this is gonna sound like a stretch but it really felt like... very conservative... like ok, jun-hee dies to save her child (realistic and heartbreaking but unnecessary narrative imo); gi-hun arbitrarily decides that the life of a baby ends up being worth more than the life of say, dae-ho (stupid asf); the narratives just feel.... very pro-life.............. ?? am I crazy? like the baby's life is worth more than human lives that are already here? and i don't necessarily think that that was what they were TRYING to say, I think it just came across that way and they could have absolutely done a way better job at having gi-hun sacrifice himself to make a point about humanity than what they did. maybe if jun-hee had never been pregnant and she and him had been the last ones to end up on the pillar? and she had reminded him of his daughter? and he decided to die so she could live? maybe even if she'd STILL been pregnant damn, and the baby hadn't been born yet, because we support mothers :') <3 and it would've been an interesting parallel for gi-hun to save a mother when he is a father, esp if they showed that she reminded him of ga-yeong. esp saving her from that ASSHOLE of a boy myung-gi. defeating toxic masculinity to protect the most vulnerable :') idk I feel like that would've been so much better, felt so much better, showed that jun-hee's life had worth beyond just being a mother. because I actually did like that she was pregnant and chose to keep the baby, because sometimes that happens and those women deserve to be supported and protected just as much as any other woman.
that's pretty much it I think
will probably have more later but yuh
COMING BACK AND EDITING TO SAY the fact that gi-hun was willing to sacrifice himself for the baby also doesn't make sense because I would be up there on that pillar like, there's no way these richass awful people aren't going to take this ORPHANED CHILD and do abominable things to it. sorry but squid game is a dark show with dark themes and there's no way we can't pretend that people don't abuse babies irl. and if you didn't wanna touch on an idea that dark, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE WRITTEN THE BABY INTO THE SHOW. i would've been up there panicking like, if I sacrifice myself for the baby, potential unspeakable horrors await her. if I kill the baby, I would never be able to live with myself. there's no way to know what will happen to the baby if I die, but there's no way I can drop this tiny little human to her death and have to live with that forever. best case scenario, they both jump and there's no winner. idk. just a thought
this book is turning out to be a devastating story of terminal illness, disability, and grief with sprinkles of happiness and normalcy and it’s literally ruining me oh my god. i did not expect a book that someone used the word “sharkification” to describe to be so beautifully heartbreaking
SO. FINISHED ASSASSIN'S FATE.
