@INDANTESECLIPSE Acoustic Review
UK’s newest sensation, In Dantes Eclipse, have been busy. Recently deciding they fit better into the Gothic Sleaze genre, IDE seems been hell-bent on keeping us all entertained.
Recently released track “Cemetery Love Song” certainly fills that bill. An acoustic song done by Hallöws and Ant this song uses lyrics that not only entertains but leaves you questioning just what these boys have been up to in the Cemetery late at night. A campy trip into the world of the macabre, Cemetery Love Song is a lighthearted look at what I suspect to be an unrequited love.
It’s easy to hear the Wednesday 13 influence here and in my opinion this is a good thing. This fun little romp into necrophilia and murder can easily be a metaphor for today’s world of love and relationships. But this writer has decided to just take it at face value and enjoy the sound of Hallöws’ voice and Ant’s outstanding work on the guitar.
As I sat debating a trip into a cemetery somewhere in the UK late at night hoping to find Hallöws awaiting me with an axe I was drawn back to reality when the first melodic notes of Marceline began.
The deep, haunting voice of Hallöws draws you in with quiet strength and before you know what’s happening you’re hooked. The emotion this young up and coming star conveys in this track is enough to make you wish you were the vampire queen he can’t seem to get over.
A tale of love gone wrong Marceline pulls you into the heart and soul of a young man who bounces between love and hate for the young woman who broke his heart.
There is no doubt that front man Hallöws knows how to make you sit up and listen. This rising rock god won’t go unnoticed for long.
Accompanying this magnificent voice is Ant on guitar. His musicality blends so well with Hallöws’ voice that I found myself hitting repeat over and over on this track.
I was still contemplating finding this Marceline and shaking some sense into her when it dawned on me that I was about to listen to my favorite IDE song.
From the moment the acoustic version of Gravediggers Wife started I was entranced. Originally a bass driven heavy rock song GDW takes on another life stripped down and bare.
With nothing but the phenomenal playing of Ant and Hallöws’ voice to fill my headphones I was pulled into this tale. Stunning lyrics weave a tale so sad and beautiful that I found myself never wanting to leave this world they’ve created.
At nearly six and half minutes long, Gravediggers Wife is the longest playing acoustic they have. This is perfectly okay with me.
This is the track that should be played at every show and it should always be stripped down so that the world can hear just how amazing these two young men are. As powerful as the original version of this is, I can’t help but say the acoustic is by far my favorite thing In Dantes Eclipse has recorded. If you haven’t heard IDE yet, I strongly suggest you make this your introduction to them. Then listen to the original version so you can see just how versatile this band really is.
The only issue I have with this track is that MTV no longer does Unplugged so the world can get a taste of what true talent is.
While reveling in the sound of Hallöws and Ant, I was hesitant to ever take Gravediggers Wife off of repeat. The only thing that made it happen was catching a glimpse of their teaser video that was released not that long ago.
You’ll find the link to it, and all the songs reviewed here, below. I strongly urge you to watch it. IDE is about to set the rock world on notice. They’re here and they’re not going away quietly. A new British Invasion is on the way and IDE are carrying the torch.
