This is an anime storyboard template on DIN A4 vertical (portrait) page that you can edit in Adobe InDesign. Designed for 1.85:1 aspect ratio (Widescreen) storyboards, with 5 frames per sheet. The layout is drawing inspiration from the fantastic Studio Ghibli storyboards. You can either edit the layout with Adobe InDesign or print it out as it is to work on paper, the old school way (no cheating).

Boxes:

The first column, カット indicates cuts. Use it to number your shots.

The second and main column is 画面 which stands for screen. That’s where you draw or place your images.

内容 stands for content, use this space for your notes (dialogue, action, etc.)

The last column, 秒 is for annotating the duration of your shots in seconds.

To work from InDesign, duplicate the page you want to use. To import your drawings, place your pictures into the frames that belong to the Images layer. Resize as you see fit. If you want, you can use the Rule of Third guides in locked layer to help you frame your compositions. Change the template as you see fit to make it your own. Fill in the header, add your credit and project details, add your production title or logo... And that’s it, your presentation is ready for print or screen.

IDML (InDesign Markup) format is compatible with all InDesign versions from CS4 to CC.

FYI: Since the document grid corresponds to the 1.85:1 aspect ratio, you can build variations with ease. The smallest module is 22,895 by 12,376 points. Its height matches the document body text’s leading—in case you’d like to type text. Use the Page-Master for pagination.

You can always hide the baseline grid and/or the document grid for clarity. (View > Grids & Guides > Show Baseline Grid & Hide Baseline Grid.) You may need the font Avenir installed on your machine to work with text, but you can use another font.

InDesign Advertising Storyboard template 1.85: 1 Avenir Book 10pt on A4 vertical

Storyboard template for Adobe InDesign (InDesign Markup IDML format). This 16 pages storyboard template is set on Din A4 vertical (portrait) sheets, ready to use for print or screen presentations. This template lets you write your treatment notes alongside your pictures; simply edit the Text and Images layers in InDesign. Fill in the title page, add your credit and client details, replace the logo with your own. The text is set in Avenir Book 10pt with 12 points leading. For images, just drop your pictures in the Images layer. You can show or hide the rule of thirds layer guides in locked layers to help you frame your compositions.

To edit the footer, use the A-Master. Please note that if not installed on your machine you’ll need Avenir font licence to use this template.

The subdivision number for the document grid is quite high. For clarity you can always hide the baseline grid and/or the document grid. (View > Grids & Guides > Hide Baseline Grid & Hide Baseline Grid)

Here is a new storyboard template for Adobe InDesign (InDesign Markup / IDML format). The frame ratio is 2:1 (18:9), which is cinematographer Vittorio Storaro's Univisium film format. The number of feature films using this format is growing. Immersive 360° films such as virtual reality videos also use an equirectangular image format with a 2:1 aspect ratio.

This 22 pages layout for ANSI A Letter horizontal (landscape) is ready to use for print and screen presentations. This template lets you write your screenplay or treatment notes alongside your pictures and number them. Simply edit the Text and Images layers in InDesign. The text is set in Avenir Light in 10pt. For images, just drop your pictures in the Images layer. Pictures should align with the square grid—each subdivision is 12 points square to match the leading. You can toggle on and off the rule of third guides in the locked layer to help you frame your compositions.

Fill in the title page, replace the logo and credentials. To edit the footer at once, use the A-Master for white background pages or the B-master for black background.

ANSI A Letter (North American paper size) is 11.0 by 8.5 inches. If you need the equivalent template for ISO, it is available in A4 size.

Here is another paginated storyboard template for Adobe InDesign (InDesign Markup / IDML format). The frame ratio is 1.33:1 (4:3), a traditional television & computer monitor standard.

The sheet is a Din A4 horizontal (portrait), is ready to use for print and screen presentations. This template lets you write your notes alongside your pictures; simply edit the Copy and Images layers in InDesign. The text is set in Helvetica Regular, 10pt.
