Robberfly focus stacks, in Black & White.

These shots have been sitting on my SD card for nearly a decade.  While the shots were sharp and the stacks were good, the robberfly had landed on a red pole that reflected red all over the insect.  This threw a red color cast over the entire frame as well.  

I finally stacked them this morning, and actually corrected the color quite nicely, but decided to convert to black and white as well... and I love the way these turned out.  My B&W conversion here is a unique method, I created a layer and converted the background and foreground as default to keep the surfaces clean from noise, but then I went back and converted the fly itself through a blue filter to increase contrast, darkness, and sharpness.  I do this with some of my canyon landscape shots as well, as the blue filter brings out the layers and sharpness while adding some depth to the shot - but adds too much noise to skies, or even macro OOF areas.
