SNELL'S LAW AND INDEX OF REFRACTION 

       Snell's law states that the ratio of the sines of the angles of incidence and refraction is equivalent to the ratio of phase velocities in the two media, or equivalent to the reciprocal of the ratio of the indices of refraction

           Index of Refraction is equal to the speed of light in vacuum over the velocity of light in the particular medium. 

                                                    n=c/v

C= 3.0 x 10^8 m/s (speed of light in vacuum)

*Light travels slower in matter than in vacuum
