Is there anything Patrick caNt do? I mean he is a business major, who willingly attends tax seminars, can fill out govt. Applications for grant. (They are stupid complicated) and plays guitar, sings in his butter voice and now can dance and also act. He is outdoorsy, goes on hikes, plays baseball and he can throw a mean party. I have so much sympathy for Rachel. No wonder she just kept trying again and again to get back with him. I would leave all shame to be with a guy like that.

Patrick is kind of guy who is attracted to action, like a moth to fire. New store opening in town, with an interesting idea, he goes and gets involved. Yes he was more interested in david but I think he would have found a way to get in David's pants without being part of store, hadn't he like the idea a lot. There's a baseball tournament, Patrick jumps in, musical he just wants to go and give it a shot. Even simplest thing like barbecue, he straight up gets up and goes where action is.

and in barbecue he goes and and starts helping Johnny and Stevie, even though he could as easily sit with david and chat. I think davids laziness is good for him, in a way, he would enjoy admiring the slow pace of life. Like david is going and doing things out of his comfort zone for patrick, Patrick to is giving slowing down a chance while with david.

patrick is also the sort of person who goes hiking in order to think (while i on the other hand get into my bathtub--very different strokes there, lolol). he also goes ahead and gets the insurance and wires the lights in the store when david doesn’t. so yeah i think you’re right that he definitely is an action-oriented person. and i agree too that david is definitely good for him. they balance each other out really well, and i think that’s what’s so lovely about their relationship. david brings fun and chaos to patrick’s well-ordered world, and he gives him a reason to slow down and enjoy himself. while patrick grounds david’s flightier tendencies and helps show him the value of putting in the work (to the store, to himself, and to their relationship).

Do you have any recommendations on john Sherlock fics? TV verse and gay?

sorry it took me a bit to get to this--you sent it right as i was gearing up for up close and personal, and i’m just finally getting back around to being able to answer it. some of these are gonna be au’s because a) i love a good au and b) i think there are some really excellent ones in the bbc sherlock fandom, so sorry if that isn’t your thing, but i think they’re definitely worth a go. also be sure to pay attention to the tags on all of these because some of them are definitely on the angsty side or have potentially triggering content. i’ll start with the more canon-based fics first and get to the au’s at the bottom:

my first rec is always any fic by my incredible bestie, darcylindbergh. particularly, i’ll give a shoutout here to carrying up his morning tea and if nobody speaks of remarkable things, which i think are two of her best. they’re also two of her angstiest, lol, so check out her other stuff if you want something fluffier, especially the things fairy tales are made of series. we also wrote a fic together (between each beat are words unsaid) which i would be remiss not to mention because it’s how we became friends in the first place and is also by far the longest thing i’ve ever written, lol

And as the seasons change I love you more by Teatrolley is really lovely, and on the more so angsty you’ll cry side of their writing, The repeated image, which i absolutely love to death despite the angst

in a similar vein to that last rec, there’s also Second Waltz by Atiki, which does have a happy ending at least but makes me full-on sob every time i read it

Acceptable Behaviour by bbcatemysoul has sherlock being a delightfully oblivious idiot

A Quiet Murmuration by cathedral_carver has lots and lots of kisses

Watch What They Photograph by Itsallfine is a fun series written by an author friend of mine

You Have 487 New Messages (Or, In Which Sherlock Holmes Starts a Grouptext) by JenTheSweetie is ridiculous and fun

The Edinburgh Problem by snorklepie is an excellent slow burn with some great bedsharing and a big ass bathtub that you just know right away they’re gonna put to good use

Midnight Blue Serenity by BeautifulFiction is probably my favorite casefic

White Tulip by withoutawish is definitely on the angsty side of things again but super good

A River Without Banks by Chryse is always on my rec lists because i’m an absolute sucker for time travel; however, you should definitely heed the tags and go into this knowing that it is absolutely devastating at times--definitely one of the hardest reads i’ve ever gotten through--though it does have an unambiguously happy ending

moving into the more au-based side of things, we’ll start with Absurdities by oxfordlunch, which is just incredibly cute and sweet

In Need of Quiet Affection and Gentle Words by kinklock manages to be both funny and sweet

Colors by Queserasera because who doesn’t love a good soulmate au

This Man’s Heart by ellie_hell is very soft and gentle in a way that i find really refreshing

The Bang and the Clatter by earlgreytea68 is without a doubt my favorite sports au (if my baseball au turns out even half this good, i will be beyond satisfied)

The Guarded Secret by mycapeisplaid is an au of my favorite childhood book, the secret garden

and finally Gimme Shelter by SinceWhenDoYouCallMe_John has my absolute favorite opening line of any fic i’ve ever read and is just overall very well-written
