at midnight a flower blooms
(for the commander week prompt: origins!)
Tranquility.
The Dream was always like this. A secure, peaceful grotto for those who had yet to be born. Or for those who had already fallen in the world beyond.
A Dreamer wandered through the lush forest, her heart brimming with adventure and curiosity. This one would be lovely when she awoke. Bright lavender in hue with a mountain of fern-like hair and wide, curious eyes. She giggled as butterflies, glowing blue in the dim light, fluttered around her, one landing on her fingertips. Such sweet little creatures, drawn to the innocence of the sylvari. So calm, so quiet.
Then the earth began to tremble.
The Dreamer’s ears fell with concern as the entire forest shook around her. Trees rattled, the ground cracked. She could hear the distant cries of her fellow sylvari, hear them wailing in alarm. The butterflies fell around her one by one, their glow fading. Fear replaced the curiosity in her heart and she began to run.
Faster, faster. Something was wrong with the Dream. Something was shaking it to its very core.
The earth split in two directly beneath her feet, and she shrieked as she was thrown forward. Directly over a cliff. Pain was unheard of in the Dream, but she felt it as rocks and twigs tore into her soft skin. Sharp and stinging. She could do nothing but roll further and further. There was nothing to break her fall.
Whispers began to echo in her ears.
“Fight it! Don’t let him control you!”
“Commander, I... I’m sorry. I had to protect it.”
“I won’t let him win. I’ll burn down this entire forest if I have to!”
“He’s too strong... I can’t--”
“Mother, no!”
“They belong to the dragon now.”
“What have you done?!”
Then came the images, quick flashes of them. A woman weeping with grief in the snow. A man surrounded by flames. A dragon. Massive and crystalline, bowing to her will.
Her back hit something cold and she felt her consciousness fading.
---
“Whoa, you okay?”
The sapling’s eyes fluttered open, staring at the canopy above her. Huh, it was nighttime. How long had she been out? She sat up carefully, echoes of the tumble still thrumming in her arms and back. But when she looked down, she saw her once bright skin was now dull and dark. More of a deep indigo now. Her face felt... wrong. Her teeth sharp, her ears pointy.
The sylvari crouched next to her was a nice green. It reminded her of the ferns near the pond she liked to sit at.
“What’s your name, sapling?” He asked.
She hesitated for a moment, trying to figure out how this voice box worked. She made a sound like a goose’s honk before clearing her throat. He laughed a bit at that.
“My name is... Indumathia.”
Is Libitira aurene’s champion? I always thought that was Indu
She is! Libi was Aurene’s champion before Indu was even born. In relation to the other dragons, Indu is technically Mordremoth’s scion because she inherited the most of his power (but chooses not to use it unless in dire situations) but the term most people call her is “The Revolutionary,” since she actively defies the other dragons and their champions.
The crystal wings were a gift to Indu from Aurene when she became an elder dragon; they’re not the result of being her champion c:
