So I looked into the code a bit, and I was right; there's definitely similarities between Simply Jetpack and IC2's jetpack code, but only because they have similar functions. Everything else, especially the core functions (useJetpack() in particular), is notably different. Basically, the IC2 devs are full of shit.
I have my suspicions as to what's really going on here- Simply Jetpacks does jetpacks extremely well, in fact better than IC2. But up until now, IC2 has been the big mod with jetpacks, with very few (as far as I'm aware) other mods being available with jetpacks in them, the only other one I'm aware of being Mekanism- which is nowhere near as popular as IC2.
My theory about this is, the jetpacks are one of IC2's "big things" that make it particularly attractive. Up until now, only one other "big" mod has done them, and as I stated, Mekanism isn't all that popular, as far as I know. (I have no clue why, it's pretty cool, but eh.) And then Simply Jetpacks showed up, and I'll bet five bucks the IC2 devs saw it and said "oh hell no" and moved to shut it down- because it does things better.
Again, this is just a theory. I might look into this further, I might not; it's probably not worth my time. But if this is the case, I will be more than happy to expose that publicly if they give me a reason to, because that's a dick move, and if there's one thing pretty much anyone hates, it's dick moves.
So yeah. There's that resolved.
