There is very little of what can be called a common objective, there is no leadership, there is no real order. And the most striking feature of the protesters is that they are not giving any demands that can actually be acted upon. They have lofty goals such as "ending the influence money has over our representatives in Washington", but they provide absolutely no reasonable suggestion on how this should be done. In order to accomplish anything a protest needs to be organized, and to have concrete goals that can be achieved, and to have an action plan to reach these goals.
So far the only compelling thing I've seen is evidence of police brutality. But that's hardly politically motivated; protesters are 'occupying' a park and making police officers' jobs a nightmare. So yes, cops are going to be pissed. Think of it this way: you're an employee near the bottom rungs of your company. For instance, a Wal-Mart cashier. All day long you have to deal with loud, obnoxious, stupid customers. Now a bunch of rowdy kids walk into the store. They make a commotion and there's nothing you can really do to stop them. Then suddenly there are hundreds of them, and they've taken over the electronics section. So far this analogy has worked pretty well, but here's a twist: as part of your job you must deal with people every day who not only act unruly, but want you dead. And you want these arrogant punks out of your store so you can do your job. It's not by any means right or appropriate for an officer to lash out at these people, but it's definitely not a tactic that the government is using to silence dissidents. It's people getting frustrated.
