So, I just saw the preview for Riverdale and I LOVE KEV AND RONNIE SO MUCH TO BE MAD AT BETTY. She’s not a sain. She purposely hurt Veronica by pointing out all her insecurities. The Black Hood tell to Betty to cut Ronnie, not to humiliate her in front of everyone. She deserves some anger. Sorry for Betty fans but it’s the truth. The girl is far away from perfect.
Ronnie and Kevin doesn’t have to apologise for being mad. Betty isn’t as pure and kind as Betty fans says. She has a illness, and yet everyone seems to forget. Every Betty fans praise her when she’s Dark Betty, even if it’s not a thing to do. Mental Illness. Isn’t. Empoworing. It’s something who need to be treated, it’s a grave issue. And glamourise it or find this « cool » is disrespectful for the people who constantly suffer of this. When Betty act mean, you find her an excuse. When she blackmail Cheryl (who btw lost her brother, was constantly abused by her parents, who learnt that her own father killed her twin and then hung up, and tried to take her own life) you find that empowering. To what ? To allow the very same person that helped Clifford to hide the body to go out of jail sooner? I love FP, but what he did was wrong bc at this time, Clifford didn’t threathen him (it was after FP got arrested that Clifford threatened Jug’s life). And yet, Betty has the nerve to do. And you just found this cool just because it’s Betty who does it. Idk, if it was Veronica or Cheryl, you’ll be like ”what a bitch, ugh. deserves to burn in hell”. And finally, when she gave Nick’s name. Tbh, if he dies, i wouldn’t care but for god’s sake, Betty is just 16. She’s just a kids, she shouldn’t have tje right on who dies. (And tbh, I wishe that Nick is punished but trought justice. I want the serie to show that rappers can be punished legally. That pressing charges isn’t vain and that it help victims to do so.)
And the worst is that Betty fans aren’t fair. When Betty act wrong. It’s okay, you either find her excuses or find this great or blabla. But the others characters can’t be flawled, they can’t be wrong or just be humans. No, it can’t. Prime exemple? Ronnie is blamed to be rightfully mad at Kevin. Kev is blamed to be mad at Betty bc she stepped into Kev’s buisness bc it’s dangerous but herself do things even more dangerous (tbh, yes Kevin was wrong to cruise but to me, Betty looked like she wanted to control him, to make him what she wanted without even trying to understand him.) Toni can’t critizice Betty/stand up to defend the Southside which is unfairly blamed, even by Betty/make a little joke without being called a bitch. But Betty can totally talk like shit to some people. It’s okay, it’s Betty.
That’s why I’m not a huge fan of the characters. The writers want to make her some kind of vigilante/powerful woman/badass whatever by adding her a glamorized mental-illness, characters who thinks that she’s THE WOMAN and that every character defends/act like she’s way to precious and should never be hurted (ex: Ronnie who defend Betty after the fight, Kev whi defend her ablut her ponytail). Adding with that fans who thinks that she’s THE character that inspire every women bc she’s so strong, and kind, and cool, and blabla.
Let me tell you, if there’s one character that could be a model is Veronica Lodge to me (except when she did drugs). She’s strong, kind, she learns from her mistakes and wants to do better. She fight for what she wants, is supportive of her friends and boyfriends no matter what. She smart, she’s badass, she’s loyal and caring and a feminist who isn’t afraid to speak up and fight for the women. She’s ambitious, and she isn’t the kind of woman to critize other woman/fear them just bc they are here. That it’s.
