In attempting to find a review to post about the film XXY, I came across several instances where people grossly misidentified Alex, who is intersex. Alex’s androgynous body led some to call her a “transsexual”. Straight movie reviewers don’t know what to do with this gender representation, but they’re trying to label it anyway.
