In the darkness, he was a flicker of bioluminescent light, providing his own light in which he could see. The aquarium was kept dimly lit, though still it was too bright for his sensitive eyes; Ravus chose to remain hidden away in the faux cave that had been provided for exactly such purpose.
He was miserable. Curled deep into the cave that was far too small (the entire aquarium was hardly large enough for him to stretch his entire, massive tail sufficiently), he watched the moving shadows beyond the glass, unable to see much more than the movement and changes in light.
His head lifted as something hit the water; it was feeding time, it seemed. Quickly, he darted out, clawed hands grasping the fish; suddenly, bright lights illuminated the water.
Ravus froze, blinded completely by the light. He clutched the fish, opening his mouth to let out a loud screech that ended in a hiss, and once he got over the surprise of the light, he turned.
But he was disoriented, unable to find his way back to the cave.
Noctis had been vaguely horrified as he arrived at the aquarium and had seen the announcements for their brand new ‘exhibit’. Which, well. It wasn’t as if it was technically illegal.
Lucian laws weren’t exactly extended to protect nonhumans, there hadn’t been enough encounters to necessitate it.
But he’d gone to see the condition it was being kept in, mind whirring as he tried to figure out...well. If there was anything he could do.
And then some fish had been thrown in to the frankly gorgeous bio-luminescent giant mer creature. Then the lights had been thrown on and-
Several people flinched, but Noctis blinked, wincing, then shouting. “What the fuck- it’s hurting him, turn it off!”
He nearly threw lightning at the assholes who seemed unbothered by the way the creature was obviously hurt and confused. But he was worried about someone getting hurt.
So instead he, threw a dagger up, severing the power cord for the lights and warping up. As they went down, however, flickering off, he forgot that most people didn’t really know what warping was, or what it looked like. One of them panicked, and pushed him, and-
Noctis gasped as he tripped, falling back into the water in a large splash, eyes wide as flailed and turned, all his attention suddenly straining in the dark gloom to see just how the bio-luminescent figure was reacting as fear flooded him.
