Yesterday we used $300 of FHAA Fund money on disposable cameras for kids at the Indigenous Family Centre to learn with. It was an incredibly fun and rewarding day. Huge thanks to Dena Aminzadeh, Knate Forest, Laura McNish and Alexandria Kazmerik for volunteering your time and being such great teachers for the kids. We are activating the FH&A Fund to get cameras into the hands of kids ages 7-12, pairing them with a mentor, encouraging them to tell the story of their neighbourhood in their own way, and hosting a subsequent photo show with the results of the project. @austin.mackay gives us a great lesson in how looking for natural framing elements within your environment can lead to more immersive and memorable photographs. Once you identify your subject, you should spend some time with it. Move around, try getting high and low to see it from a new perspective. Your first instinct may not always yield the best result. This week we would like to challenge you all to think a few steps further about why your subject initially caught your eye. Look for framing options, wait until the light changes, look for how people are interacting with your subject. You might be happy with the results! We are excited to announce our partnership with @theforkswinnipeg on a new, free photography workshop happening next week, July 24, at 7 p.m. The theme of the workshop will be "meeting place," and will explore how photography can help us connect with people and places on a deeper level. We will also have forks interpreters to teach us some of the amazing stories surrounding this historic place. This workshop is open to all ages and skill levels. We simply want to gather as a in a group of like-minded people and have a interesting, fun, guided experience at the forks. More info can be found by following the link in our bio.
