Autumn: What’s your favorite thing about Autumn? Holding hands: do you believe in soulmates? Leaves: What’s your favorite color the leaves turn?

-------------------------------------------------------Autumn: my favorite thing about autumn are the sounds! The crunch of the fallen leave when you walk over them, the birds, the rustle of wind through the trees, that crisp sound in the air that's hard to describe but for me is distinct to autumn and reminds me of a place i love!

Holding hands: i do believe in soulmates although I believe soulmates are not just found through romantic relationships but that two people can be platonic soulmates!

Leaves: my favorite color that leaves turn is that mix of orange and red! Sadly i dont get to see that in person much since i live in an area where for the most part leaves either stay green and on the trees or just go straight to brown!

Hello, I was wondering if I could get your insight into something. I am an INFP however I'm constantly mistyped by others as either an INTJ or INFJ which is...weird to me. I'm usually the moral centre of my group of friends, I hold my faith and ethics paramount and I enjoy exploring possibilities and helping others reach their potential. My biggest issue is that it takes monumental effort for me to make decisions and actually do anything, though I'm good once I've started going. Any thoughts?

Hi. Well, everything you describe sounds very INFP-like to me. Being the moral centre (Fi), enjoying exploring possibilities (Ne), helping others and reach self-potential (Fi). Even what you describe as your biggest issue is probably that inferior Te bothering. Building a stronger inferior Te makes IxFPs admire and strive for efficiency and logical order. If your main problem is to start going, I’d recommend focussing more energy on that initial step. Support usually helps, can you think of a friend with whom you could start working? Even if you don’t have to perform the same tasks or if you don’t have the same goals, e.g. I have this friend that studies a completely different career and we sometimes send each other voice messages summing up topics that we need to revise or we send the other person essays before the actual deadline. If you prefer working on your own, maybe you can set your alarm for 6 minutes, you sit down (or not, depending on the specific task I guess)  and commit to doing stuff for those 6 minutes (whatever it might be, even if it is physical exercise). Once you’ve done that the feeling of satisfaction will probably make it easier to keep going.

does anyone else get too stressed out by all the injustices in the world and have to tune out the news for their own mental health even though they want to stay informed?

I get this question quite a bit. 

The other day I was at a deli for lunch and they had the news playing on a TV, which isn’t something I usually watch just cus I don’t have a TV that I use for anything other than watching movies. It was just report after report of the worst shit ever, people who got shot, priests who assaulted kids, the Flint water crisis, etc etc etc. The list goes on and on and it highkey ruined my day and overwhelmed me pretty badly. 

The thing about INFPs is that we have a really solid justice bone (boner?) that we operate with. We hate to see people get taken advantage of, people in power misusing their power, etc. And we’re really good at acting upon it in a compassionate and driven way, at listening to others and being a source of comfort, which is why so many INFPs usually end up in relational and therapy-related fields. But some days it’s a little too much. Too many problems you can’t fix, too many wide-scale injustices you can’t deal with and pain you can’t alleviate and you start to feel hopeless.

So yes - create space when you need space. You don’t need to always be on your Heal The World game 100% of the time. It’s ok to block it out for a minute and find your space to breathe. This applies not just to day-to-day but to everyone that works in a relational field, like teaching or counseling or social work of any kind. There’s a reason on airplanes they tell you to put your oxygen mask on first before helping others - you can only be as helpful to someone as you are healthy and hopeful.
