I agree that Rindou is an ESTP based on his cognitive functions too!
To make things clear, I think Ran falls under XXFP but my personal opinion is ESFP. I do think he's a se dominant user. Although he loves to sleep, that doesn't mean he's an introvert per se. To me, he just likes to chill. Lol
He's quite concrete (as supposed to abstract which would make him more of an intuitive but I think he's a sensor), pragmatic and initiating with people. Tries to be poetic but comes across as an airhead a bit. Even though he's pragmatic he's quite expressive with his emotions, aesthetic, and individuality (separate uniforms for him and brother), very charismatic.
He's moody as we've seen his reaction when Rin was having a party at 4pm with his friends and his beauty sleep was interrupted. And Rindou hiding in the bathroom suggests this isn't the first time he's witnessed Ran have an outburst. Only an offering of his favorite dessert can change his mood. That's very FP behavior.
Also one of the biggest indicators for me that he's an ESFP is that his special skill is presenting himself in a good light. Meaning he's great at making a first good impression. That tells me hes a natural at social manipulation and shows you what you want to see from him whether it's true or not. He also wishes he was a celebrity. ESFP are natural performers and enjoy being in the spotlight, they like attention and thrive on it. Given the fact the he outshines Rindou in the delinquent world proves it in my opinion. Rindou being annoyed by it and doing his own little show with the splits and martial arts positions proves he's also an se dom wanting some attention on him too.
Ran is laid back, maybe even a bit lazy. But still quite vain in his appearance and interests. The man likes luxury and status. Not saying that's a bad thing but that's classic ESFP without being too stereotypical. His clothes are very flashy. Whether it's dark or colorful, it catches your eye and demands your attention.
He also seems that he doesn't think about the consequences of his actions until after it's done. Along with his brother, they accidentally killed a guy which landed them in juvie. Both of them being se users couldn't stop and think about possibly going too far in injuring that guy. Se users are the types to act first and ask questions later. Sure he's a bit more cautious than Rindou but i think that's due to Ran being more experienced and mature compared to Rindou. That's a nurture thing compared to nature. His nature is quite impulsive. Also the fact that they both have massive tattoos covering half their bodies as teenagers is quite risky and "consequences be damned" behavior.
Their home is very messy and catered to socializing. Pizza boxes, open potato chips, trash, and alcohol all over the kitchen. I don't think that's only just Rindou's mess. If Ran was an TJ user, he wouldn't have any of it and allow that sort of mess in his personal space. Naoto, Kisaki, and Sanzu are TJs and they're very organized and clean people.
Please let me know what you think!
Ran’s definitely a sensor. To me he seems like a sensor who took the 16p test and got mistyped as an intuitive, so after reading his result description, he started trying to act more like one lmao
I can’t quite see Ran as a Se-dom, especially when comparing him to Rindou. Now this might just be me falling into the trap of stereotypes but I keep thinking about Chapter 128, where he hits Mitsuya in the head. Both Rindou and Mocchi were miffed when Ran suddenly comes in and incapacitates Mitsuya because he ruined their “fun”. I see that as one of the main differences between Rindou and Ran: Rindou enjoys the experience of fighting and everything that comes with it. (Exerting himself, doing splits, hearing his enemies scream in pain, probably feeling and hearing their bones snap... all that good stuff.) He just really enjoys tormenting them before taking them down for good. Meanwhile, Ran likes to take his enemies down instantly.
I just think the act of fighting doesn’t matter as much to him as it does to Rindou.
Having a distinct style, wanting attention, and moodiness are traits that make me think of Fi, which would be the ESFP’s auxiliary function, so I see your point there. However, ISTJs also use Fi. It’s just that it’s their tertiary function.
I associate charisma more with the FJ-types (Fe users). I don’t think Ran is an FJ-type either. Any type can be charismatic though. It might just come more naturally to certain types than others.
As for the Battle of the Ashes incident, I’m not exactly sure why but I’ve always thought Ran was really aiming to kill (or at least almost-kill) the vice captain. I see your point about that and the tattoo too. Impulsiveness/spontaneity are part of the Se-dom’s brand.
If you’re interested in why I think Ran’s an ISTJ, it’s all under the cut:
Disclaimer: You see, I think I understand cognitive functions. But when it comes to how they behave in certain stack positions, my knowledge is limited. I’m also not trying to say that I’m right, because we really only have crumbs of Ran. He doesn’t appear enough, AND I’m pretty sure there’s so much stuff that gets lost in translation. I don’t think anyone can make a 100% sure typing of him right now.
ISTJ (Si-Te-Fi-Ne)
Ran has been shown to reference past events/experiences/impressions when making judgements and coming up with plans.
We know that the Haitanis spectated the Bloody Halloween fight. Ran has seen how strong Toman is, so he sees playing dirty as the key to winning against them.
I know there’s an ISTJ stereotype of them being rigid rule-abiders. I think these “rules” are not always the rules of their society/community. These can also be rules they lay out for themselves. It depends on what they value.
Another time we see this is when South tells Ran that he wants to recruit Kakucho into Rokuhara Tandai.
Once again, he refers to a past event to judge whether Kakucho would join South or not. And he seems really sure about it.
Even when he says his farewells to Izana and Kakucho (I know y’all love to laugh and clown him over this part lol), he seems to fondly reminisce about the lives they lived.
I recall seeing a different translation of this part that goes similar to this but also has him saying, “I will hold onto it dearly.”? Yeah, that translation fits Si too.
He has shown a tendency to stick to routine and “tried and tested” things
According to this translation, Ran has one specific day of the week in which he goes to the salon.
He’s also a regular at this salon.
After getting his hair done, he always seems to enjoy the feeling of having a new hairstyle and having it blow in the wind? The way he talks about this “I like the moment when ____” also implies that it’s part of a “tradition” for him.
This is more of an assumption, but I’m also looking at how he doesn’t like to stay up late. That implies he has a set time for when he should already be in bed.
Sticking to “tried and tested” includes: not going into a fight without a trick or plan, or without being sure that he and Rindou would win. (Si-Te, inferior Ne)
Notice how they do their teamfights. Rindou is often the first to attack. Once the enemy is off their guard, that’s when Ran attacks. He doesn’t normally fight anyone head-on.
Ran’s Si vs. Rindou’s Se: Se acts, Si collects information from surroundings. The way I see their coordinated fighting style, Rindou is more of the actor, and Ran’s more of the observer so that he’s the one to warn Rindou if he notices that something’s off.
When not in a teamfight, Ran goes for one-hit takedowns. For me, the reason why he injures so gravely is because because he wants a fight to end immediately. I see it as him wanting to ensure that his enemy can never get back up and be an inconvenience again so he can proceed to the next person and take down more people.
The only time we see him get seriously mad was when his ambush plan vs. Mitsuya and Hakkai didn’t go as planned. When Hakkai woke up, the plan was ruined. He probably was already afraid they might lose.
If Te-user, why messy?
IXTJs have Te in auxiliary, so it’s not their go-to. The way I understand it, applying your auxiliary to a situation requires conscious effort. Therefore, I think IxTJs are more selective of where and when they use their Te. This is why the Haitani house being messy doesn’t automatically mean Ran can’t be a TJ. From the looks of it, his room is actually pretty neat. If he spends most of his time in that space anyway (sleeping), then I don’t think he would care much about what goes on outside of it.
Ran prefers to use his Te in gang matters, for example. Ran is a planner. He’s considered one of Tenjiku’s brains. He favors planned attacks. He always makes sure that the situations he's in are a "sure win". He cares about getting results and not much how to get there.
Tertiary Fi (I’m aware some of these might be reaches + like I said my knowledge on function stacks is limited):
Why does Ran respect Izana so much? Because of the similarities of their situations--being big brothers to Rindou and Kakucho (Source) (Though I know this was translated via Google Translate so this might mean something else lmao. This is from CB3 though and I was wondering why people weren’t talking about it???)
Not wanting/needing to have a gang (before meeting Izana, whom he shares common ground with)
Because Fi is in the tertiary position, it behaves more child-like. So on his bad mood days, his anger is unregulated, therefore explosive.
He’s particular about his aesthetics and self-expression = Tertiary Fi wanting to stand out and tell people who they really are.
So, that’s it. That’s why I think Ran is an ISTJ, and when paired with 8w9, it sounds a lot like him. Fits in with wanting power as well.
Hi! What enneagram or mbti types do you most associate with the enemies to lovers tropes? Also curious about the power struggle alpha male/alpha female who eventually and only submits to the alpha male. I’m an author and I’m wanting to use the enneagram to further explore this.
What MBTI types do I most associate with the enemies to lovers tropes?
A lot of pairings can be enemies to lovers. I think a better question to ask is, why are they enemies? What makes them hate each other? Is it a difference between N vs S? F vs T? E vs I? P vs J? Or is it because they are so similar that they mirror each others' flaws? And why will they fall in love with each other?
After you decide that, only then you can choose the types. These are the examples;
ENTP vs ESTJ: ENTP is the lazy genius and ESTJ is the typical I-put-effort-into-this-shit-and-I-deserve-it valedictorian. They butt heads because they function differently and they annoy each other in every class they share. They fall in love because they have what the other doesn't, ENTP teaches ESTJ how to let loose and explore novel ideas, and ESTJ reminds ENTP that it's smart to be intentional with your actions instead of leaving your life up to fate.
INFJ vs INTJ: As rulers, they both have the same ideal; believing in a perfect world. But they are enemies because they use different methods to achieve that goal (Fe vs Te), motivated by different moral values; eg. INFJ believes people can be 'persuaded' 'brainwashed' to follow the vision, they come up with plans of how it can happen without bloodbath. INTJ prefers to just get rid of people who threaten their vision and 'recycle' those people by involving them in organ trade; for the benefit of other citizens and also for extra national income. This fits lovers to enemies to lovers.
ESTP vs ESTP: Let's say they are both fighters. They both behave similarly, but because they are put in a setting where they have to be competitors, it's a challenge for them to figure out how to beat the other. So in this case, they are enemies because of their roles/setting, but they are lovers because of their similarities; these make them connect and drawn to each other.
Alpha male/alpha female
Is it the athlete type or is it the CEO type? If you are talking about the 'professional' 'cutthroat' environment a.k.a the CEO type, the stereotypical alpha fits TJs the most (ESTJ, ENTJ, ISTJ, INTJ). XXTJ women stand out, since they tend to be perceived as cold and they desire control. XXTP women can appear 'masculine' too, but if you want to make both of the characters competitive and controlling, choose Judgers. Te-doms' dominance is obvious (EXTJ), Te-aux are more lowkey about it (IXTJ).
If you want the female character to submit to the male character, it really depends on how you want their dynamic to play out. Cocky guy with an ice-queen? ENTJ male and INTJ female. Dominant boss who eventually falls in love with her much calmer assistant and he becomes her weakness? ESTJ female and ISTJ male. Lovers who compete for fun to see who will win their power struggle on that particular day? Te-dom with Te-dom. But keep in mind, these people are still stubborn, so you need to give a good reason why she will submit to the man. 'I fell in love' is not enough reason. These people put their goals/tasks above their feelings.
As for enneagram, same thing. You need to decide on the dynamic first, the theme/message and the setting of the story. After you decide these, look at each enneagram and choose drives/vices that fit that character and the setting the most. Personality types can be an extra guide for writing consistent characters, but they are not necessary.
Heyy love🥰 I wanted to ask how do you differentiate between INFP and ISFJ in characters, especially when they’re 9w1? I’ve had the most trouble differentiating these two types in some characters.
Thank you sm and I hope you have a lovely day!❤️
MBTI is literally how a character functions. Enneagram, on the other hand focuses on what motivates them to react in a particular manner.
In your case, an INFP will first and foremost would always decide using Fi. All their decisions would have some emotional meaning to them. And these emotions are personal. Fi users rarely have that need to explain what they feel.
ISFJs, would use Si instead. As dominant perceivers, they’re first instinct would be to find similarities between what they’ve seen and what’s right in front of them.
So first, narrow down on how they navigate through their surrounding. Do they, try to function in their surrounding based on what they’ve experienced before and then try to classify it ? Or do they judge it based on what they feel about it, and try to function/take action ? Asking these questions should help you find their MBTI types.
9s tend to ignore their anger. And among the 9s, 9w1 is extremely passive. They repress anger and beat themselves up even further when they act on it, due to their 1 wing. They would pretty much do anything except feel the anger and act on that. Due to this tendency of theirs, a lot of people can find them extremely passive, rock-like, very peaceful, lazy, etc. They do this cause they think what they need or feel, due to their surroundings, has no importance. Not in your typical 2 sense, but more like: “if I keep my needs, emotions and feelings to myself, people around me would have a better time. They already have a lot going on with them, adding this would only make the situation worse.”
9s usually have a really good childhood (which makes them think that the less unfortunate have more rights to complain than they do, cause they’ve always had that comfort) or a messed up one where they’re forced to take care of their surrounding (in this case, they end up thinking that they’re feelings, if voiced out, would make the situation worse for everyone, and therefore ruin the mood). So they shut up to enjoy the mood and ignore they’re anger or focus externally and help others to ignore they’re inner rage that would bother everything.
So add this to their mbti type. ISFJs, being the type to help the most, would pretty much ignore how much they must help themselves and try to sort their environment. They, in literal sense, would embody selflessness. Eiji from Banana Fish, pretty much does this. He see Ash, he likes him, he completely ignores how much trouble it puts him through. He’s solely focused on how Ash feels, how much he has to save Ash from this horrible environment ( see, he does consider it horrible, but doesn’t care about his position in it). He pretty much ignores his anger towards this world and tries to protect Ash how much ever he can, however is too passive to do anything.
INFPs would pretty much try to shut down the inconveniences caused by their Fi. They would start thinking about how much their feelings can affect the situation around them and then try suppressing what they feel. Since, they pretty much suppress what they feel and want, they would outwardly do things that they want for their peace. Kaneki is a great example of this. He’s an INFP who pretty much doesn’t want to deal with his emotions, his anger and his inner turmoil. Due to this, he focuses externally and helps people around him. But every action that he does, stems from his own emotions. He cares about what he feels more than anything else, but refuses to deal with it. In fact Tokyo Ghoul is literally about Kaneki’s suppressed anger and how, from a state of non-existence, evolves and takes different form, due to his negligence of accepting and dealing with it.
Autumn: What’s your favorite thing about Autumn? Holding hands: do you believe in soulmates? Leaves: What’s your favorite color the leaves turn?
Thanks for sending in an ask!! This is the first time I've ever done this!! 😊
-------------------------------------------------------Autumn: my favorite thing about autumn are the sounds! The crunch of the fallen leave when you walk over them, the birds, the rustle of wind through the trees, that crisp sound in the air that's hard to describe but for me is distinct to autumn and reminds me of a place i love!
Holding hands: i do believe in soulmates although I believe soulmates are not just found through romantic relationships but that two people can be platonic soulmates!
Leaves: my favorite color that leaves turn is that mix of orange and red! Sadly i dont get to see that in person much since i live in an area where for the most part leaves either stay green and on the trees or just go straight to brown!
hi! do you think one's sexuality and myer briggs personality type has a connection with your natal chart?
Hey there! 💕 I had to take a while to think about this because it’s such an interesting question skdfnskndk 💕 There’s a couple of big topics we should touch on… separately and then together? I’ll make it brief so I don’t ramble for too long 💕
[Below Cut: Romance| Love| Sexuality Asteroids (+ MBTI in relation to Astrology ]
*Note: These are just my own interpretation and what I use, usually I don’t go straight to asteroids but I get some clues from aspect/placements and wants to double check on something. Please use your own discretion when interpreting these (context clues matters)! 💕
Sexuality
So let’s start off here. There’s a broad spectrum of gender/sexuality and generally with regards to astrology sometimes some clues do crop up in aspects/placements (depends on context and what the rest of the chart indicates) – but I usually double-check them with asteroids:
Sapphos [80]
Ganymede [1036]
Vesta
Aphrodite [1388]
Cupido [763]
Amor [1221]
Psyche [16]
Lust [4386]
Lilith
Usually I use these to start off with, I don’t usually check ALL of them I just check what I think the aspect/placements were already alluding to. Since someone’s situation (self-identity, fluidity, whether they’ve come out or not, etc.) is usually something they have to be self-aware of– I usually just check for things that might be helpful for them to know in the future/things that might crop up.
Ophelia [171]
Orpheus [3361]
With these two I rarely check them but sometimes I do, if they need help explaining the last or getting over something. I think these two needs more context in order to make more sense, thus why if something is seriously concerning I check them.
Karma [3811]
Loving [432971]
I usually use these for synastry/compatibility, there’s a few others I didn’t include but I think these are the two main ones for the types of questions I get (sometimes I check Child [4580] too)
Hathor [2340]
Astarte [672]
If the shade of love is something different (I’m not talking about like, gender/sexuality wise but more like dynamic wise) I usually look at these two. They’re more– I usually use them for more future focused stuff? Dynamic related stuff? Honestly context matters a lot so I advice people to look at all the aspects/placements first before looking at the asteroids.
MBTI
As for MBTI— I think that just the fact that it’s a personality test, accessible to people and that it’s pseudoscience TO ME makes it the same type of thing as astrology?
Apparently there’s been debates on both sides with remarks about how the other is fake/less accurate?? I honestly don’t know about this. Because both sides are kind of up in arms about which side is more accurate (”Based more on scientific research”) when they’re both?? equally?? pseudo??
I got a pretty good article aligning the MBTI to the Zodiac Signs (by Emma Hickey) for you though 💕 I’m an ENFP sometimes ENTP (depending on what phase of my life I’m in/my external environment/focus is right now) and so I looked at my Sagittarius ASC 💕 Ofc this is just for fun, so don’t take it too seriously 💕
*ALSO : Going back to the Sexuality thing, I know we’ve been trying to do more research on if Sagittarius/Leo/Pisces/Scorpio placements can indicate more fluidity in gender/sexuality and I?? honestly don’t know about that sdfnksn
I hope this?? Answers your question?? 💕 Somewhat?? 💕💕 Thanks for sending in such a thoughtful and interesting question for me to answer!! 💕💕 It’s been a blast thinking about this ;u; 💕💕 I really appreciate it!! 💕💕
🕷 - INTP - i know that they're afraid from failure. That's why i don't like competitions and things like that. They're also afraid of their mind itself.
⭐ - INTP - They do care. They just don't know how to let it out. They do have emotions, and they are very strong (not always). When they say that they're sorry, they're truly sorry.
My university roommate is constantly outing me as an introvert (she’s in a clique & they are constantly partying & I’m not here to party + I’m spoonie). Everyone we meet together, she’s constantly bashing me as an introvert, as if it’s a bad thing. What do I do? How can I get her to stop outing me as an introvert, or at least to stop thinking that being an extravert is better than being an introvert?
So sorry to hear that.. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being an introvert
I would suggest sitting down with your friend and asking her to quit “bashing you” as an introvert or at least let her know it makes you uncomfortable and if she persists, perhaps she’s not really a good friend..
We live in an seemingly extrovert dominant society where “extroverted” traits such as being social, outgoing , and talkative, are valued. HOWEVER, there are plenty of introverts who can be just as (or even more) seemingly extroverted.
The main difference between introverts and extroverts is how we getting our energy. If an introvert needs to socialize for a long period of time, they will get socially exhausted and need some alone, or with a couple close friends to “recharge”. If an extrovert needs to socialize for a long period of time, they are more “charged up” than they were before they socialized.
Also, I’m not super familiar with the spoonie method so if you have any information on that, please share!
Have a great day!
TL;DRIntroverts and extroverts are different and that’s ok! What isn’t ok, is your friend being rude about it.
