Amuse Me [since we haven't interacted, just canon relationship in whatever AU? ]
Normally Jean would have thought that it was strange to see his Captain so downtrodden. However, in their world, was it really so strange? Was it really so weird to feel like shit? To feel grim? After seeing what they had seen, experiencing it first hand, it was more expected to feel such things than strange. Perhaps it was because Levi always seemed so...strong. Seeing him hardly speaking, eyes tired yet pained, a heavy frown and brows furrowed - it made him more human. It made him much more relatable, and it made Jean want to do something about it.
Of course Jean wasn't in the greatest of moods either, finding out that the titans they've killed were more than likely once humans was hard to swallow. Knowing that these people probably didn't want their fate, they didn't want to eat people, they didn't want to destroy homes and tear families apart, that they were innocent - that was the hard part. That was the part that Jean couldn't accept, yet he had to. He had to swallow that down along with the thick lump in his throat and the tears that threatened to stain his cheeks and the screams that threatened to tear his throat to pieces. If Jean had those thoughts, god only knew what Levi was thinking.
Everyone knew that Levi's previous life had been hard, although none of them knew the details and no one felt the need to ask. All they knew was that Levi had been through hell and back and sincerely speaking, Jean respected the man even more for it. At first Levi was hard to accept, especially his more harsh ways of going about things; but eventually Jean learned that they were going to have to be harsh in order to change this world. Things like peace without a fight? Not gonna happen.
For now, however, Jean needed to do something. They needed their Captain back, they couldn't afford to let him slip, not too mention the pain Jean felt just looking at him like that. So, what could he do? Talk to him? Oh god no, neither Jean nor Levi were good with words. That left actions...but what? Making tea or cleaning wouldn't bring Levi out of it. He needed something different, something that would get his attention, something that would...oh. Make him laugh. His mother always said laughter was the best medicine, maybe it was time to put that into practice. What made people laugh though, what got them smiling, what brought people cheer? Jean hadn't really tried to do such things since he was a kid and really, there was only one thing he could think of doing. Should he though? Would that just make Levi mad? Surely not, it's not like Jean would mean harm, maybe it'd spark a more playful side to Levi...if he had one.
Well, no time like the present and no sense in stopping the inevitable. It was either do or die and Jean just hoped it wasn't the die scenario, that wouldn't be fun. Going into their barracks, Jean grabbed two items of the same thing and came back into the room where Levi sat alone, tossing the white fluffy thing into his lap. "Alright, Sir. No offense but if you don't smile right now, I'm going to smack you in the head with this pillow." ....Was this how you're supposed to cheer someone up? Eh, oh well. Jean kept a rather serious look to his face which probably didn't help his case, but he was going to hit Levi if there wasn't a change in his demeanour. "I'm serious Sir, you'd better perk up or you're gunna get it. Three....two....." Counting down, Jean's fingers curled into the fabric of his pillowcase, holding it up and readying himself for the battle of his lifetime...esque. "One."
And suddenly, Jean hurled forward and slap, the pillow connected to Levi's chest and Jean immediately started to run. "HAH. Goodluck beating me, I'm a pillow fighting champ-" Oh. Well. Apparently Levi took the bait because before he knew it, Jean was tripping over his feet when a pillow hurled and smacked the back of his head. God damn the little shit was fast as hell. "Geh," oh fuck that, Jean wasn't going down with a fight, "Forgive my language but fuck you, Sir. "Rolling onto his back, he gripped his pillow and used the momentum from his roll to swing his pillow across his body, laughing triumphantly when it smacked the side of Levi's head. "Take that."
Really, this was all Jean could ask for. A moment for them to unwind, a moment to forget, and a moment to distract. Sometimes thats all it took and all that was needed because as of right now, all Jean could think about what beating the shit out of his Captain with a pillow and not about the horrors of the walls, of what the humans could do, of the deaths on their hands. For now, he could smile, he could play like he did as a child. For now...they could be at peace and Jean could get a nosebleed because of Levi's inhuman strength.
"Fucking hell, that hurt! That isn't how you play, Sir!"
