This is my favorite illustration from “The Reluctant Dragon” by Kenneth Grahame, abridged and illustrated by Inga Moore. It looks like the Dragon and George are the Boy’s parents.

“You know about sheep, and weather, and things. I know about dragons. I always said that was a dragon cave. I always said it ought to have a dragon. In fact, I would have been surprised if you’d told me it hadn’t got a dragon. Now, please, just leave this all to me.”
This is one of my favorite stories and I reread it pretty frequently. When I was a kid I remember seeing the Disney short with the same name and loving the dragon through and through. We have a rather eccentric dragon who loves lazing about and writing poetry, but Saint George comes to town and the villagers want a proper fight. So the dragon and the saint pretend to fight each other and then have a grand feast after the Saint wins, and George wags his finger at the townsfolk for being judgmental to the dragon and that they shouldn’t lust after fighting.
I had never seen the Inga Moore illustrations, so this edition was so fun! I think it’s my favorite one so far, despite Ernest Shepard being the classic artist. I love them both, but the striking colors of Inga Moore took my heart.
