I feel like a lot of people reading or listening to the book Project Hail Mary find the main character to be unrealistically good at science. The YouTuber Elle Cordova did her book club video this month on it and she liked it a lot but it sounded like she thought that was a bit of a stretch. I've heard this from a couple of other people too and I would argue against it. Ryland Grace isn't a middle manager or a specialist. He's a generalist with an advanced degree in the most important field for the plot, microbiology, and he's got every textbook ever written and all the science literature that there is.
I feel like these people don't watch Hank Green videos
