the patron saint of first steps you can never take back

the patron saint of flying for the ones who couldn't

the patron saints of asking "are we alone?" and only hearing your echo

Today I was showing Jupiter to someone through the fancy telescope and he got very nostalgic and told me a story about his very first telescope. He got it as a birthday present when he was a kid and stared at all the planets for hours. He told me he used to work for JPL and would eat lunch in the Mars yard and watch the engineers drive the rovers around. He was like “yeah my boss had Sojourner’s 7th wheel sitting on his desk. A spare tire I guess. My other boss was a lead on Ingenuity.” I asked him what he worked on there and he said “special projects… like future stuff… I can’t really talk about it.” But he really appreciated Jupiter and said he’s never seen it that well before and he’s wondering why he doesn’t own a telescope anymore. He’s gonna buy one for his kid now.
