Music For Diviners - âFog Tropesâ
Itâs been too long since I posted an installment in Music For Diviners, which, letâs be real, is just an extensive playlist of sonic backdrops for readings and ceremonies. Everyone has different ideas about their needs in these areas, and could we even call ourselves seekers if we werenât cadging inspiration from each other in whatever form it appears?
Anyway I do not have a long post to write about Ingram Marshallâs âFog Tropes.â Apparently it was used in the film Shutter Island? Which Iâve never seen? But it was originally created in 1981, which means this particular piece of minimalist gloom has been haunting people for almost forty years.
Also itâs exactly ten minutes long, which makes it perfect for use as a timer in certain meditations or exercises. Sometimes you donât want to explore any further than the length of one âFog Tropes,â ya know?
Iâve had incredible luck with using this music to freak myself (and others) out quite productively while preparing certain rites that wouldnât exactly be out of place in a horror movie. Sometimes DRAMA is called for! And sometimes it isnât. Just remember there, isnât necessarily anything evil awaiting us in the fog. That skin-shiver we experience in moments like these is simply what it feels like to stand in the presence of the uncanny, appreciating the unfathomable mystery swirling all around us, beyond the limits of our human senses.
That hair-raising feeling is accessible to us at all times! But various environmental challenges (including the relative safety and comfort of the mundane world, which have a special allure in times of great upheaval) can make it a struggle to remember the significance of it, or how to find our way back to it.
