There is no joy or satisfaction to be found from this four-episode conclusion. (Major spoilers ahead!)
Premiering today, the shortened final season of Prime Video's Upload is one of the most disappointing and least satisfying conclusions I have ever had the displeasure of watching. My review (with big spoilers!) for my newsletter. (Read and subscribe, maybe?)
Some thoughts on season 4 of Upload - esp. Nora and Nathan (spoilers included)
Wanted to make a few gifsets (that series is still quite unknown to tumblr world I guess) of them because Nora and Nathan Antony - yes, SPOILER, he kind of took her name :) - have been so cute and kind of deserved better.
What a bittersweet ending. But what am I supposed to make of the Nathan copy (the scan) that was on the ring? Did I sob for nothing and they could be together again like they used to? Okay, sure (#emotionalwhiplash)...
Also, Luke had a bit of a hero moment. Suddenly he was gone. Not sure if he still exists somewhere digitally, guess not. Aleesha, I do feel a little for you…
And last, but not least: It does seem like Ingrid got a happy ending (what a weird wedding), but was it really? I mean, she married a digital copy of Nathan. Much to think about.
Much to think about the whole weird AI world in general. That was just fictional, but the AI bullshit stuff in the real world is getting scary enough.
So I'm not entirely sure I will rewatch the whole series. Maybe if I focus more on the romance stuff ;) :))
no you don’t GET it bro, Ingrid’s not a bad person. Is she manipulative and a little toxic? Yes. But she does these things because she loves Nathan, and she manipulates him into loving her and needing her because she feels like the only thing she has to offer him is her money. She’s terrified that she’s not enough for him just being herself—and her worst fears are proven when Nathan falls for Nora, a poor, regular girl who has everything Ingrid has, except money and power. So what is Ingrid supposed to think? That there must be something inherently wrong with her that Nathan would choose Nora over her—which isn’t true! Ingrid just isn’t the right person for Nathan. She’s not unlovable by design. So to keep him, she has to make him dependent on her, so he’ll stay with her out of obligation, first by paying for him to stay in Lakeview, then by lying about uploading for him, then by building his new body—if he quite literally owes his life to her, he’ll never leave her. Which is really sad, because deep down Ingrid really is a good person deserving of love, love without caveats and manipulations. She’s more than just the mean ditzy blonde rich girl archetype, she’s actually an incredibly complex charac-hey, come back, where are you going?
Currently on season 1 ep 6 of Upload and while yes Ingrid is a bit much I love the way she stands up for Nevaeh and herself.
Ingrid is just serving cunt and they can’t handle her 🤷🏾♀️
Also I feel like the show is making her out to be a bitch in order to justify her getting cheated on and words can not describe how much I loath this trope.
Upload season 3 so far
Not sure how I feel about Upload season 3. The big reason I loved the show was seeing Nathan live in Lakeview and exploring this futuristic afterlife but now we hardly see Lakeview anymore. The "real world" is just so lame and gross. What was with the cancer meat and cottage cheese?! Also many shipped Aleesha and Luke in season 1 and they hinted their relationship in season 2 but now it's like Luke is in love with Nathan and Aleesha is with that girl. I mean Aleesha and Luke can still be together someday but I don't see any hints of it. I get the plot line is about going after the big evil corporation but that's not the reason people liked the show.
To be honest I kind of want Nathan back in Lakeview and Nora to still be his angel or at least have them in their own version of Lakeview. I wonder if they cut the budget and that's why they couldn't have the beautiful settings anymore. To be honest the only interesting character to be is Aleesha and her family. The printing ham was pretty funny. Ingrid's story is ok but I do hope she gets over Nathan because what she's going through is just sad. Also having a copy of Nathan in Lakeview kind of downplays Nathan because they're basically the same. The real Nathan is dead. I didn't feel that way in season 1 and 2 but now I do. That's what I mean by downplaying Nathan.
I heard so many people surprised there was a season 2 so I feel like it was a big ass mistake for Prime to stream the show weekly. Our fandom is already small so nobody is gonna subscribe and cancel their Prime Membership for Upload.
I love that Ingrid isn't just a horrible person she's has layers. I'm truly rooting for her, I fully wish the best for her but that's not with Nathan. I hope s3 gives her an arc and maybe someone she can love that truly loves her.
