The vast countrysides of Romania were often empty of human life, and those that did wander them came and went with the times. It left much room for monsters to wander-- especially those who were given more permanent forms each time Dracula resurrected.
Most were docile and uninterested in pursuing humans, and it might’ve been because they hadn’t seen any in so long that they forgot they existed.
Others, however, weren’t as simple. Some held true to an old belief that they were wronged, or maybe they just wanted to eat or to cause chaos. Either way, these were the monsters that the Church and bounty-posters were most worried about. If an area started wracking-up sudden disappearances or deaths, or if a sudden magical energy was sensed, there would no doubt be a monster hunter sent to investigate.
And that’s how Julius found himself trekking through overgrown grass and thin birch forests to end-up at the coordinations described as being the site of: “A very odd occurrence.” When you worked with the supernatural, something being ‘odd’ was cause for concern.
But, despite him growing ever-closer to a ruined old castle just on the other side of the forest, he could hardly feel any presence that might be described as ‘magic’. Julius’ intuitive powers pointed him to the presence of undead or malicious beings, and considering there didn’t look to be any signs of a fight in the area, he wondered if the magic that tripped the Church’s radar was a one-time deal.
Boots crunched against rubble and rock as he finally stepped onto destroyed bricks leading to the once-great entryway of this old castle. There was still beauty to be found in it’s old, worn state, but he wasn’t here on tour.
He rest his forearm against the stone archway, squinting to survey the first room that greeted him. Light filtered in from broken ceilings. When nothing of note could be seen, he decided to go the direct route:
“If someone’s in here, reveal yourself!”
